20 or so taps and a fantastic kitchen making some of he best food in Kentish town. Would *highly* recommend the sausage rolls and the TRIPLE cooked chips. Very trendy atmosphere and the place kinda knows it — the price reflect such — still the food is what keeps me coming back.

Great pub, restaurant, gastropub or whatever you want to call it. I like the beautiful interior, the nice comfy fire place, and all sorts of rooms like the more real pub feeling area but also a dining room. Great menu with both pubfood and more elaborate stuff. They serve both Sunday roast and a la carte food on Sundays.

Wow what a transformation !!! I’ve been drinking in the bull and gate for many years and when I found out it was closing down I was gutted and I presumed it would be turned into flats so when i was told it was reopening I was over the moon :) Me and my best mate steve fancied a few colds so thought we’d check it out and as soon as we walked through the door we was welcomed by a lovely barmaid called Louisa who’s customer service/people skills are superb !!! She Pulled us a couple of pints(cracking pints aswell) and just made us feel really welcome safe to say we will be back . Haven’t sampled the food as yet but well definitely try it out soon. See you soon bull and gate Love Dave

Recently reopened, the bill and gate has had the most beautiful renovations done, keeping the gorgeous original features, great job! I had Sunday dinner here this weekend, the meat was perfect, the gravy was out of this world! Only draw back(a major one when we are talking roast dinners) was the roast potatoes weren’t crispy, sacrilege! Bull and gate — rumble your potatoes.

Great venue at the back of this(otherwise meh) pub for seeing live music. It’s seeped in music history having had a number of(now very successful) bands play there over the years. These include: ‘The Sex pistols, Coldplay, The Fall & Blur. Although I think they are selling the stage area to a chain brewery(Youngs) to turn into a restaurant…;-(boo hoo! The pub itself is nothing to write home about. It’s ok, just a very generic type of pub.

Old school pub, one of my favourites in Kentish town. This place is big, overcrowded on weekends, but I still love it. If you ask why I‘ll tell ya. It is because of the atmosphere. I always feel good after the first beer here. Somehow I forget about all my problems and the life seems better. The good part is after the dinner you can walk into the next room and voila! you are in Fandango club. Live music and nice people, cold beer and good food, this is the perfect combination for Saturday night.

It looks like a quite old pub with a weird crowd: either too old or 20 – 30’s year old people. I assume it is due to the back gig venue. My boyfriend absolutely hatted it, but I find it quite nice and the place has been renovated not long ago and it has nice features. The music was a bit of everything with plenty of classics. For me is a great place to have a drink in a traditional English pub run by a family(I believe).

This is a pub with a small intimate gig venue at the back. Yes, you can just stop by on the way to the forum, but their free gigs do sometimes make it a perfect venue of its own right. I came in for a friend’s band disbanding gig(as they are off to the corners of the world) and had a brilliant time trying to get the boys to cross over from the pub to the venue through the toilets and screaming and shouting at the bands. They were super cool and we were allowed to over– run for a few songs as we were all enjoying themselves. The pub itself and the drinks it served was not of much interest.

Totally solid. Definitely a bit funky, but friendly bar staff and cheap beer very near the tube gets it to a ¾ star, but the bizarre music scene pulls it ahead into a 4-star. There was some dude rocking out on a keyboard by himself dancing and getting all jiggy with it and putting on a hell of a solo act the other night — I’m all for it.

This pub is alright, serving a nice pint of bass. To the back and the left there is a nice area where you can get away from the pool table and the sport(if it is on… and you don’t like it). Landlord seems a friendly sort. Have tended to avoid it in the past as on some nights it is crowded with gig goers getting their drink on before seeing a show at the forum, which means the clientele vary a great deal I imagine, based on whoever is playing. Live music happens at the pub too(including some greats in the past).

Its a decent pub to stop and have a drink. I met a friend here for a concert at the Forum just next door. The décor outside was interesting and quaint. I was excited at a run down looking ‘typical’ London pub, which still had a touch of Camden grimy-ness. Its really huge inside, and it was very crowded when I went, no doubt thanks to the concert. So that killed the quaintness factor somewhat. Drinks are pretty cheap, and the crowd wasn’t overbearing — and downright friendly even. I wouldn’t linger though.

Old school pubs can be endearing, but this one is tawdry with its antiquity. It needs an upgrade. Upon first glance it feels as if the roof is going to collapse, like the whole building is going to implode. It also looks dirty, so dirty that mice and cockroaches have blocks of flats in the walls and they will evict all of the pub goers if the human beer drinking crowd gets too rowdy and wakes them up while they’re in the midst of a really good sleep. The drinks are cheap, but so is everything else about this place. It’s not an ideal environment.

Everytime I visit the Bull & Gate, I’m always reminded at what an odd little venue this is. The Bull & Gate is a pub but has bands playing most nights in the month. The pub is the main part of the venue but if you walk through to the back, there’s a mini bar and go through the big doors, and you’ll enter the music venue itself. The music venue part of the Bull & Gate seems pretty big in comparison to what it looks like from the outside. The bands are always a mix of indie and rock. Sometimes you can catch a good band there but that’s rare, they are mostly pretty bog standard. This place isn’t extraordinarily special. I would never go out of my way to go here. The bar is quite ordinary and you can find better pubs /music venues in and around London for sure.

This is an old pub and has an old pub feel which i think is increasingly hard to come by. It has an old school sort of govner has a pool table and dart board and you can tell most of the customers are regulars. The only thing that lets this pub down is it’s prices. A bit to expensive for me

For me this is one of those places that should never have been subject to the smoking ban… the venue just isn’t the same without a haze of smoke drifting across it — it should have been exempt, but enough of my personal gripes — how about a review? Well this is the classic small London venue — sticky carpet, decades of random band pictures stuck up in the bit where bands play(next to the pub) and a general feeling that it seen more booze than Noah saw water. That obviously makes it brilliant. It has a good mix of nights on and is a great place to catch a gig at the weekend with a good variety of different bands playing. I’m a bit bias as my other half’s band have played here a few times — next gig Feb 22nd… :) The pub itself is pretty spit and sawdust, but there are friendly bar staff, the beer is fine and it usually has a good atmosphere whether people are there just for a drink before going down the road to The Forum or there for the night. It’s not too pricey and there’s a pool table for those not up for the gig. I can’t say I’ve sampled the food mind… don’t think it’s that sort of pub… Video link:

What a wonderful place! This bar is just bursting with character and is a breath of fresh air amongst the gastro pubs of camden. Come here if you want to see real good up and coming music without the scene and pretentiousness of camden. The bar itself has a classic jukebox including some great irish medleys and a pool table! The bar staff are very friendly and the drinks prices are very reasonable for London.

This is a great venue, and a great pub. It is a big place, with big stage out the back, and fills lots of people. There are different nights on, ranging from rock heavy metal nights, to acoustic more mellow nights. The sound is good, and the atmosphere always buzzy. I like this place.

The Bull and Gate pub is the most obvious pre-Forum-gig meeting point. The atmosphere is rather cosy, mostly thanks to the lovely staff and owners. The place also showcases upcoming bands that you may read about in the NME a couple of years down the line. The soundtrack ranges from the Nirvana to the Strokes, and the crowd looks like a Rock’N’Roll retrospective from the 1950s hillbillies to the 2000s revived mods. This is a great alternative to Camden Town’s Barfly or Hawley Arms.
