Tasty, pricey, time-consuming hipster coffee in the heart of hipsterville attached to a hipster hotel. What’s not to like? But seriously, the coffee was great. I don’t love paying £5 for a pour-over and find myself pretty impatient for that style of coffee — give me an Americano any day, it’s faster — but it sure does make a nice cup! The atmosphere was clean and bright and the staff friendly and really knowledgable. They had some yummy pastries(their pain au chocolat, wherever it came from, was delish) and their hot chocolate, which I had last Fall, was a chocolatey jesus-moment. If I’m in that area, I’d pop in again.

This coffee shop is part of the Ace Hotel property. The place is clean and the staff is attentive and pleasant. Coffees are good and prices are reasonable. Have been here almost every morning during my stay and found the experience to be consistent and enjoyable.

Inside Ace Hotel you will find Bulldog Edition. A coffee shop serving, well surprise surprise, coffee and baked goods. Everything is quite good, but the service was bad. No smile at all. I can live with that, but the place is also way too crowded.

Shoreditch hack: Open 6:30am SEVENDAYS A WEEK — Bulldog Edition is open for coffee about 4 hours before the other area outposts on weekends. Mighty nice flat white, too. (inside ACE Hotel)

When I drop by Bulldog, it’s because I work in the area and need a hit! It’s always a Soy Flat White. They do a great job. Super friendly, always quick. What more could you want? Standard pricing for quality coffee. Job done.

Being up in the early hours in in London has some disadvantages; there are still people stumbling around from the night before(presumably having passed out somewhere briefly) and the only coffee shops open seem to be the big chain ones serving their watery brews. Thankfully, Bulldog is here to fix that — open at 06:30am and serving Square Mile(having been opened in collaboration with them) it is now possible to get an early morning fix of espresso and a bite to eat before the rest of the coffee shops in the area open up. Newspapers are provided, there is ample power and wifi and just next door in the main hotel lobby the is a large working area with desks and comfy arm chairs(There is a bar there too but that’s a whole other story). I tend to find that the espresso varies here quite a lot(I’ve never had the same barista or coffee twice — but that might be more due to my hectic schedule), and I’ve had some good shots and some bad shots(but the bad shots when reported have been replaced with better shots so not going to complain about that!). Hoi Polloi(also reviewed) next door provide some of the food and wow the doughnuts on sale was just to die for. If you’re up early and you need a fix, or you just happen to be passing by, it’s worth popping in for a chat and a little explore of the other little things available next door to the Ace Hotel.

Bulldog Edition at Ace Hotel on Shoreditch High Street is an excellent coffee shop, set up in collaboration with local brand Square Mile Coffee Roasters. Located just a short walk from Liverpool Street station and Shoreditch High Street Overground station, Bulldog Edition is a nice little coffee shop located within the Ace Hotel. I have never stayed at the hotel, but I can definitely recommend its coffee shop. Because the place was set up by the hotel in collaboration with Square Mile Coffee Roasters, they serve one of my favourite coffees. And they do it well. Being part of a hotel, the atmosphere is busy — and relaxed at the same time. Seating in the main coffee area is limited, but they provide a wide range of newspapers, and you could probably sit next door in the hotel lobby if you like. The staff are friendly and as benefit of being connected to the hotel restaurant, the place offers tasty sweets that are baked in-house. I enjoyed my time there and will be back at Bulldog Edition soon.

Clean and stylish without being too intimidating or irritating. On my first visit, I rocked up in gym clothes and got served with a smile by an immaculately presented Shoreditch man. On my second visit, I enjoyed a spacious working area and a well-curated indie backing track that was as head-bop-able as it was tune-out-able – a tough balance to achieve! Snazzy restaurant Hoi Polloi next door provides their savories, and the ginger stout cake is rich and tasty, even two days old(I brought some on a plane to share with my sweet-toothed mom in California). Great service, great atmosphere, great taste, great workplace.
