The food here is fantastic and the portions are large! I came to Bun Bun Bun before a girls night out and was very happy with the food. The«noodle salad» is definitely the way to go with a big plate of fun to go with it. I have a seafood sizzle which was very good and healthy(until I loaded on the jasmine rice. I just had to!) Mochi ball ice cream here is the best I’ve had. A couple things to know: *the place is small so you may have to wait outside but I wouldn’t anticipate too long of a wait *do NOTBYOB. They all but charge 3£ per person corking fee, even if they aren’t drinking. If you have a special occasion and it’s just two of you, it way be worth it. Otherwise, I would suggest to hold off. *double check your bill and pay attention when paying. The waiter charged the wrong amount on a card, refused to listen and was pretty unpleasant.(I would attribute this as a one off incident– don’t let this defer you from visiting) I will definitely be back!

This is hands-down my favourite Vietnamese spot in London. Just one order(for me): and it’s…number 1! No, no, *literally* you guys: it’s number 1 on the menu. The pork bun(Hanoi bun) is a delight. A charred-flavoured broth, bits of lemongrass grilled pork, mini pork patties and seasoned veg. A side of vermicelli, salad, some hot thinly sliced chilis, and a GARGANTUAN pile of herbs: fresh green salad and mint and parsley. It’s truly the largest bounty of freshness I’ve found at a Vietnamese spot in London. And all for 9.50. Highly recommend the green tea and the Vietnamese iced coffee here as well. Unilocal note: gets really busy(see: queues likely out the door!) at peak dinner time, so plan accordingly to beat the rush!

Possibly the best chilly squid on Kingsland Road. Pity about the inattentive service every time.

Mark today on your calendars, this is the day I’ve had the spring roll to beat all spring rolls. You know one of those life moments when you do something and don’t expect the details to matter much? Today, the detail slapped me in the face. Ok, so the bun noodles are what they specialise in, so, I got some of those in a soup and was very happy. I went with a combo of pork/beef, though part of me was wishing I had gone back in time and ordered just pork so I could have more of it in my bowl, it was fantastic… the beef was good but maybe it’s just the mood I’m in today. The herb kit was one of the freshest I’ve gotten with a noodle soup/phở, everything was like it had just come off the delivery, really impressed. Nothing is sadder than getting a slimy leaf to tear up into your food! The prawn/pork spring roll I added on as I thought, hey, maybe I’ll be starving and this will be a nice addition. It changed everything. Order it. They’re light and crispy without being heavy or greasy and you really get the fresh pork/seafoody combo and not just a mash of things in a roll. It really is lovely and I’m surprised that this is what I’m most excited about. Anyway, will be back to try the rest of the phos and etc… it’s close to Hoxton station, so if you’re hopping off and living Eastward, it’s not a far trek to pick up something from Kingsland rd and go back home.

YES! A place specialising in bun! Bun dishes — vermicelli noodle dishes — are mine and my husband’s favourite Vietnamese food. When we lived in Vienna together, we hunted down the best bun, and we’re now doing that in London. This place is currently at the top of our lists. Located on Kingsland road, there are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants to choose from. If you’re looking for bun, just come here. We both tried the signature dish: bun cha ha noi. It was incredible. The complexity of flavours and freshness of the ingredients was just amazing. I complimented the waiter on the food when he came to take the plates away and it was actually the owner! I said I had never tried this type of bun before and he said he thinks he is the only restaurant on the strip to serve this dish, which is a signature bun from Hanoi. If you’re new to bun, fear not! Their menu and website are really great at introducing you to what it is, how to choose your dish, and how to eat it! They also serve other food too, including my second favourite Vietnamese food: bahn mi(baguette filled with Vietnamese flavours). Friendly services, good prices, excellent menu. See you soon, BunBunBun!

My favourite Vietnamese restaurant at the moment. The phở and bun bo hue are delicious. They also have bun hanoi which is a speciality in Vietnam. You can make reservations but you need to call to book. They have byob but they charge £3 per person(drinking or not) so if you are having one or two beers might be cheaper to just order from restaurant.

Just amazing. The food is absolutely wonderful and really reasonable. A really good portion of chargrilled belly pork for starter, pork pattie vietnamese baguette and green tea was £15. Can’t recommend enough.

Hmm. 3 ½ stars from me. First up, the good. I enjoyed the hipster minimalist décor. The green papaya herb salad was incredibly delicious, perhaps the best I’ve ever had. The prawn crackers were good and not too greasy like many other places. My friend’s bun noodle salad looked great, and good value just under £8. The £2.50 beer deal before 8pm(also £4 off bottles of wine) is also good. My rice and stir fry dish was good, although the components of the rice«set meal» were a bit disappointing. The«pickles» were basically just three raw pieces of carrot and daikon, and the«soup» were a few lost salad leaves in barely flavoured water. The rice portion was quite small. The service was quite friendly and attentive at first, but they got very annoying when they decided we’d overstayed our welcome. Three different people asked us in the space of a few minutes whether we wanted to order more drinks, and were hovering with the bill ready. We’d been there maybe 1 ½ hours and plenty of other diners seemed to be taking that long. My friend doesn’t drink, and I had a cold so only had one beer, but we needed a few minutes to figure out where we were meeting our friends after dinner. I would have been sympathetic if the restaurant had been rammed full, but there was a couple taking up a table of 6 by sitting in the middle seats(two couples had previously shared that table sitting at either end) and one guy alone was taking up a table of 4. We felt that it was kind of the restaurant’s, not our fault, that they didn’t have seats to spare. My friend said she’d never come back there. I may give it another try because the food was so promising.

How I wished I had come to BunBunBun sooner! Oh, the amount of phở I could have consumed over the past year! Not every restaurant on the ‘Phở Mile’ is worth a visit; BunBunBun definitely is. If you hadn’t gathered by that opening and the previous reviews, BunBunBun is wonderful. We ordered the deep fried squid with chilli as a starter and got the beef and vegetarian phos. The squid was absolutely delicious — crispy, great texture, spicy, and a great sauce to boot. And the phở! They have vegetarian phở! And it’s GOOD! Seriously, this can be really hard to find!(I’m pescetarian, which explains why I eat the squid, but prefer vegetarian soups over seafood ones) Generally, you can argue that the most authentic phở has to be made of animal stock, but I’ve tried some vegetarian phos that are very flavourful. Now BunBunBun’s didn’t blow me out of the water, but it was delicious and I’m so delighted that they offer it on the menu. Next time you’re on Phở Mile and can’t decide which one to try, go for this one. I don’t think you can go wrong!

I have tried w my lady 6 different Vietnamese spots on kings land road and this is by far the best along with the restaurant next door Cu Tu. I have been to VN3 times and can say not only is this authentic but it’s also freshly cooked and very tasty. Had soft shell crab, papaya salad, sea bass, phở all excellent. Don’t be swayed by bigger fancier restaurants in the strip. This is the real deal and no microwaves in sight unlike some of their competitors! We love bunbunbun!

I so wanted to give this place 5 stars before I tried it, and then I tried it and I’m giving it 5 stars! The food is delicious. Everything I tried was excellent. I have no idea whether it’s authentic or whether it’s supposed to taste like this, but it tastes really good. It’s not the best phở I have had in London(that honour goes to the one at Vietnamese Restaurant in Soho. Pretty much everything else on their menu isn’t very good but their phở is total badass and anyone else has to go a long way to beat it). BunBunBun comes very very close though, and everything else they do is awesome. Go there, you won’t be disappointed :)

The only place in London where you can get authentic Bun Cha Hanoi, one of the best Vietnamese dishes around. Bunbunbun also has some amazing decos which really resembles Old Quarters in Hanoi. Tasty chargrilled quail as well. All in all, fully recommended by a Vietnamese!

During our first year in London, we’ve had the opportunity to try 5 – 6 Vietnamese places on Kingsland Road. Not to go with the crowd, but Song Que had been our favorite place when we were craving some Vietnamese food(not as good as California/New York — and at least double the price — but hit the spot for London). We’ve been to BunCha twice now and it is fast becoming our new to-go spot. After coming home from two weeks in Vietnam coupled with the dreary London winter, we were craving some Vietnamese. Adam suggested we check out BunCha as he was in the mood for some… bun cha. It’s the restaurant’s namesake so we definitely decided to give it a try. The space is modern but casual and cozy when you enter. There’s a mix of 2, 4 and even 6+ table arrangements so could definitely be a good find for a large group. The first time we were there, there was actually a birthday party going on in the back area with about 10+ people. Our go-to appetizer is the summer rolls or goi cuon tom(£4.50) and it came with 2 rolls that had been cut into 4 pieces. We could tell that the rolls were freshly made and the herbs used were fresh. Definitely hit the spot and a pretty good rendition compared to the hundreds(thousands?) we’ve eaten in our lifetime. Adam went with the bun cha Hanoi(£8.50) which came with grilled pork patties, grilled lemongrass pork and pork & prawn spring rolls. We had been lucky enough to have bun cha in Hanoi a couple of times and we agreed that this was a pretty good rendition. The grilled pork patties had some nice char on them which went well with the fresh herbs. Since all of the ingredients come separately, it is very much a do-it-yourself type meal, which Adam loves. My go-to when we have Vietnamese is almost always phở. In the few times I’ve gone to BunCha, I’ve had the Bun Bo Hue(£8.50) — which came recommended by the server — and the Phở Ga(£7.80). I will say that I found the Bun Bo Hue a bit disappointing. The broth was quite… bland and didn’t have the depth of flavor and complexity that is usually a staple when it comes to the dish. The Phở Ga is good if not a bit boring. They use boneless, skinless chicken breast and the broth is satisfying. Love the accompaniments and they even give you pickled onion, which I’ve never seen before but love the vinegary crunch it adds. We also love morning glory or water spinach(£6.50), so whenever we see it on the menu we know we’re going to order it. The dish came with the morning glory quickly stir-fried with some garlic. Nothing remarkable but completely hit the spot. Especially considering that they caramelized the garlic — sweet little nuggets — that made me totally love this dish. I love that we can add another restaurant to our list of places when we’re just too lazy to cook but want something fast and relatively cheap. Additionally, they do seem to also have Vietnamese hot pots which I’m dying to try. The only thing is you have to give them 24 hour notice. We will definitely be back!

Having been in London for half a year, I’ve been searching for an authentic Vnese restaurant to have some of my hometown’s specialties. And I finally found Buncha! Interestingly, the name Bun Cha is also the name of the most fav dish in Hanoi(capital city of VN). The dish itself at Buncha is amazing and tastes exactly like what we usually have back home in Hanoi. If you really want to try the REAL VNese food, and haven’t got the chance to visit VN(or if you have, and want to taste that amazing VN-ism again), visit Buncha!

A new Vietnamese place two doors down from the popular Song Que Café. Phở Dac Biet lists the proper flank, brisket, tripe, and tendon(not random meats like chicken and shrimp). Correct sriracha sauce from Huy Fong. I had the grilled pork, grilled pork patty and spring roll vermicelli and it was a good Americanesque portion. Banh Xeo was also huge and crispy. Would definitely come back to try the phở and avoid the hassle of queuing at Song Que. Also, they have £2.5 beers between 5−8pm everyday and a BYO policy of £3/person.
