Burro Burrito

Bleurgh! Bland, watery (I opened the foil and thought I had ordered a burrito soup!) and even the salsa was not enough to make this doughy filth taste any nicer. I am now full up with it because I refused to throw £6.45 away, but I want the whole thought of it to just go away!

My colleagues and I were quite put off due to the bad reviews on this site, but we decided to give them a chance, and aren’t we glad we did!
In short, this is the best burrito I have ever had the privilege of eating. If you are a loyal customer of Chilango, Daddy Donkey, Benito’s Hat or award winning burrito ‘legends’ Adobo, give this place a try and it will make you realise how overrated the aforementioned are.
The main reasons for this are:
Choice — whereas competitors give you a choice of 3 – 4 fillings, Burro gives you these and about 4 more, including chicken and chorizo (same price as regular chicken), chilli con carne and bbq chicken.
Price — it is the cheapest of the pack at £5.45 (not a huge saving I know but considering how much better it is than the other £6.70 places it’s a steal.
Setting — We went at 1pm and the queue took about 2 minutes. We ordered, were told to take a seat (there were many to choose from) and the waitress brought our burritos over in cute china leaf dishes.
The burrtio itself — size was spot on, taste was incredible and texture was sublime.
To conclude, in our quest for London’s finest burrito, we have a new winner, and the title is unlikely to be challenged any time soon. ⁵⁄₅.

Ahhhh… I swear I will never ever leave my iPhone behind at the office when venturing out to get some food during lunch! Here’s what happened:
I decided to discover the «dark & twisty» alleys of the City… in fact, I got lost somewhere around Ludgate Circus, which is when I saw Burro Burrito appearing right in front of me. Stupid me was thinking that I had discovered a secret new burrito place, so I hurried inside and ordered myself a chorizo burrito.
In less than 2 minutes I had my burrito and I left to cruise around some more… I unwrapped the foil, lifted the burrito to my mouth and anticipating the wondersome flavours of a real Mexican Chorizo, I took a first bite…
What happend then is still lost in the dark alleys of Ludgate Circus (no no, I didn’t throw up), but let me tell you that I was thoroughly disappointed with this burrito: it contained not even the faintest hint of any kind of buritto-​typical flavours… none, nichts, nada… it was just lots of food gobbled up together in a wrap.
And the moral of the story is: don’t forget your iPhone with your handy Unilocal App… because this place had already received three bad reviews!
PS: The reason why they get 2 stars (and not one), is because the wrapping technique was actually quite advanced (which is where many other burrito places fail) and they didn’t skimp on the guacamole!

Ever since moving from California 6 years ago, I have been in search of a good burrito in London. I came across Burro Burrito as our office just moved next door and I had to give it a try.
Let’s just say my quest for a good burrito continues.
I ordered a pork burrito a few minutes past noon on a Friday and there was only one other person in the queue. I was thankful that I arrived before the lunch hour rush, but in hindsight I wonder if this was an ominous sign of the quality to come.
Since there were not many customers my order was fulfilled in less than a minute. I brought it back to my office and, well, the disappointment begins as soon as I took the tin foil wrapped burrito out of the paper bag. It’s a lot smaller than I had expected for £5.95 (it was higher than advertised on the leaflet at the door; they have upped the price on billboard menu inside the restaurant.)
Maybe good things come in small packages. Or not, in this case.
The «marinated pork» tasted mostly salty, the «coriander and lime rice» had no flavour, the tomatillo salsa was chopped tomato in some goo (hardly a salsa at all), the black beans were too solid for burritos, and I hardly saw or tasted the sour cream or cheese. A ping of coriander jumped out occasionally from nowhere but not in a way that complemented the dish at all.
All in all, the burrito was rather unsatisfactory. It was overpriced, not filling, and all around bland.

Burro Burrito has an interesting translation into English.
«Burro» means Donkey, pretty much.
«Burrito» has a few potential etymological sources, «Burro» and «Burrico» meaning Donkey as I mentioned, and my favourite being the Latin «Burricus», or small horse.
So, I went into Donkey Small Horse a while ago, and christ it was bad.
I am a burrito scientist, okay, I know about these things.
It was full of salad. Salad, Richard.
And not lettuce and a bit of tomato, no. I think it had dressing. This dressing was not burrito magic sauce, should there be such a thing. It was salad rubbish sauce, which I checked and is not the same thing.
AND, get this, right, the guy behind the counter, he’d never heard of Unilocal.I think he opened the shop on a whim. On a magical whimsical journey of whimsy.
It must be a sobering feeling, indeed, to be the proprietor of a burrito shop (shack, stall, place, thingy?) and have 3 far superior burrito um, cantinas, in walking distance.

That is like your Donkey Small Horse kicking you in the balls and stealing your sombrero.

In the space formerly occupied by the Japanese Canteen, this new Mexican eatery adds another dimension to the already copious variety of sandwich joint enjoyed by the City. While the menu is not brimming with variety, it’s ‘build your own meal’ style is pretty welcome. With three styles of burrito, taco or salad available to you the choices of filling are pretty good. Chicken, slow cooked pork, braised beef in chipotle, chorizo, ceviche and veg options are all there. Add to that the style of salad you like and you are done.
Additional options such as chilli con carne and spicy meatballs exist as well as nachos and side salads but that’s about it.
The food itself is not bad at all with the burritos being reasonably sized for the money too. Not as full to bursting as some other Mexican places but still more than substantial. Seeing as this mostly caters to city lunchtime trade this is a good thing!
The burritos are freshly made and the lime and coriander rice adds a delicious citrus zing to the whole thing. The fillings are sometimes not as warm as one would like but overall I could not find fault with the flavours. Service is friendly and very quick even when busy.
Those choosing to eat in will find the interior functional but austere. No expense was made to make you feel more comfortable there. The high stools may not appeal to those less agile but seating is adequate. For my part I always order takeaway as when you have the City of London at your feet there are vastly more pleasant places to eat and watch the world go by.
Reasonably priced and filling but the sit-​down leaves something to be desired. I shall stick with the take-​away
