Byblos Harbour

We love this place. Whether you’re there for the shisha, the food, the moretti or all of the above, it’s just a cool, relaxing place to enjoy and the staff is always so nice. We always enjoy the outdoor seating, haven’t sat indoors. Sometimes one of the heat lamps is out, but they always have blankets to keep the chill away. Kudos to the owner and staff for always providing a most pleasant experience on the Island!

Another great lunch deal. Nice marinated meat that wasn’t overcooked served with a great salad. Service was a little slow but it did get a little busy and there wasn’t much staff around. Would be nice to sit outside when the weather is warm overlooking the old docks. (Visit — 04/​06/​2015 Lunch)

Every major cosmopolitan city in the world has something unique to offer that one does not see in other places. In Hong Kong, go crazy with Dim Sum; in Singapore, chili crab; in Amsterdam, Indonesian, no doubt; in France, definitely stay with French cuisine; in New York, deli food; in San Francisco, Californian cuisine; in London, for me, it’s always been Lebanese, Indian and Moroccan. Of the three though, Lebanese is my favorite. It’s competitive here, and it’s not something you see much at all in the San Francisco bay area. You see middle eastern food, or Persian food, but never just Lebanese. So it’s a treat to have it here in London.
Byblos Harbour has a nice view. It also has good reviews on TripAdvisor. I find, when abroad, Unilocal is not always the most accurate. It’s a couple DLR rides away and it’s fine for someone who’s jet lagged. I’ve been eating Lebanese food all over London over the last few trips. I have a few of my favorite but this time a new one is warranted.
What I liked about their mezza is that it’s fresh and plentiful. And their grilled meat dishes warm, tender and flavorful. However, my favorite is their lamb shank with rice. Completely satisfying for the first meal upon setting foot in this country. Every dish came with peppers. I told the staff that I loved it. She brought me a whole box to take away. On the house. Amazing.
It also offered a good selection of Lebanese wine. I have NEVER had Lebanese wine in San Francisco. Their red is quite different than other reds and as it’s customary here, whatever you don’t finish, you could take home with you. I did. And now I have a nearly whole bottle for the remainder part of the trip.
The view is great. People were enjoying Sheesha (Hookah) out at the patio, which overlooks at the Canary Wharf.
The view is really something. It’s also, as it seems, a local’s favorite. Even at 9:10 PM on a Friday evening it’s crowded. It does take online reservation. It also has a nice take-​away service.
If you have to get one dish, as a single person, get the lamb shank.

We went to Byblos last night for a late dinner. The place was packed, but still cosy. For starters we had a selection of four dips with pita bread. The Baba Ghanouj was excellent and even my boyfriend, who doesn’t like aubergines, agreed. Mouhamara, a mix of nuts, chilli and pomegranate juice, was also interesting to try.
For the main course we both had mixed grill with chips, tabbouleh and fattoush. The meat is cooked to perfection, tasty and tender. Loved the kofta, the spicy pickles and the tabbouleh.
You might be tempted to order a few starters or sides, but don’t. The portions were huge and the next time we’re going, we will not order any extra sides.
The owner is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant. After the meal, we went outside, at a table overlooking the river, for a shisha. There are heaters and throws to keep you warm, but for the price charged (£15), the shisha could have been better.
Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we will be returning.

Had tabouleh, baba ganoush, and lamb sausages to start. We had wanted the spicy sausages, but they didn’t have any, so we settled for the normal sausages. Wasn’t that great, funny smell.
Tabouleh didn’t have any bulgar in it.
Good place to eat if in Canary Wharf.

A friend and I found this place looking for somewhere local to us, Canary Wharf, where there could be a bit of outside time during what has to be the best UK summer on record in ages. What started as a we’ll come here once situation has now led to multiple visits so I suppose it’s next on my review list.
Probably due to being in the weekend wasteland that is Canary Wharf it never seems to get too busy, even on nice days we’ve been able to sit outside and enjoy the sun by the water with a (wonderfully) cold pint… a pet peeve of mine is when cold beer isn’t cold, but they hit the sweet spot with their drafts here… they only have two I believe, Birra Moretti and Heineken, but the pints of Moretti always hit the spot.
I always seem to come here on a Sunday, but they seem to have decent lunch specials /​menus that are good on a Saturday, but I’m not the type to normally order off of a set menu regardless… one needs adventure after all! This is actually one of those places where I haven’t even made it to the mains, we normally get a few cold mezze dishes, a few hot, and a salad to round it out. Most of these have been a win and a perfect compliment to a lazy Sunday afternoon in the sunshine.
Personal favourites include the Grilled Halloumi (Haloumi Mishwi on the menu), which is done perfectly, and the Mouhamara… a gritty and pseudo spicy alternative to traditional hummus. (It’s included on the «Selection of Dips» cold mezze if you’re uncertain which is for you.) The salads have been up to code as welll, with the exception being the Salata Harra Libnanieh… it didn’t have as much punch as expected… I think the Fattoush wins out in the salad wars, at least personally. Another favourite are the Maqaneq, little sausages that have a great citrus and garlic taste as outlined in the menu… I expected to be disappointed with these, but they definitely lived up to expectations. Oh, and the baklava assortment for dessert, I have to say it was better than most places with similar offerings in London.
On the opposite side, another to skip for me was the Calamari Mequli… these were fine actually, but I’ve just gotten to spoiled by places putting a spin on Calamari… if you’re after standard calamari rings, the type that look like onion rings, then you may not be disappointed.
I can’t speak for the mains unfortunately, but they’ve looked good… perhaps when the weather dips and we’re not out sunning it with a pint we’ll get to a main, but with tasty mezze and baklava on offer at good prices why force yourself to leave a good thing behind? We shall see.
As for the place itself, there are a few outdoor tables with a view over water and a larger inside… this really has been a consistent summer treat, and a good contrast to the better views but with higher prices of the near (ish) Camino and surrounded restaurants… I don’t mind sitting out that way for a drink and nibble on a nice day, but you feel like you’re in the ever imposing Canary Wharf while there… at one of the small outdoor tables here at Byblos Harbour you feel a bit away from it all despite being surrounded by the same and you get to walk away with a few extra quid which doesn’t hurt. (For the record, the views are night and day different… unfortunately you’re not getting a stunning view at Byblos Harbour, but if your’e like me just being near any type of water is a treat for some reason… I only mention this as if you get the Canary Wharf Camino reference I don’t want you to expect the same type of view here, a trade off is just that after all.)
They also has blankets outside for those trying to hang onto the sun a bit longer… and sheesha for those interested, but I’ve never tried it so can’t comment on how that would compare to anywhere else.
So if you happen to be in the area on a nice day give this place a shot, but please don’t take my spot… that would just be wrong of you. ;-)

A Lebanese restaurant in Canary Wharf. I didn’t even know about this place until I saw a deal advertised on the Internet. So I bought the deal and headed over to try this new discovery.
We got the Tyre Menu which is for 2 people to share. It is priced at £40 on the menu.
4 cold Mezze
Hummus, moutabal (chargrilled aubergine), moussaka (fried aubergines in tomato, onions and chickpeas tapenadas), vine leaves
We started off with 4 cold mezzes. The hummus really shines out of the four. The rest were decent.
4 hot mezze
Kibbeh (ground lamb and onions filled in meat and wheat jacket,
Rakkat (filo pastry with cheese)
Calamari
Falafel (chickpeas and fava beans crushed and marinated in garlic)
The Crunchy calamari went down well as did the kibbeh which were juicy and tender.
Grill
Selection of lamb and chicken charcoal grilled served with vermicelli rice
Nicely grilled with the meat still juicy and tender, it went down well.
Baklava
This was probably the only part of the meal that I was disappointed with. I think just looking at the photo, you can tell.
I enjoyed my meal and they served good decent Lebanese food which is a welcomed addition to the wharf area. Is always good to support local eateries.

I went here for the first time a month ago and have been back once a week!
It is the first lebanese restaurant which isn’t in central London yet the food is as good or even better.
The staff including the manager (or owner?) Aboud are all so friendly.
The portions are huge and it’s not too pricey apart from the £3 for a can of coke!
The location is very nice too and I would recommend to anyone who wanted a good meal or even for someone who wanted a nice romantic meal.

I thought this restaurant was excellent; it has very special touches like the amazing view over the waterfront, the appetising aroma of the grill as you walk in, and the wonderful décor. All of this before you even sit down to look at the huge menu!
The menu is extensive, and full of authentic Lebanese and Greek inspired dishes. This is one place to try if you are looking for something above the standard, greasy, shawarama dishes of Edgware Road. Ask the waiter or the owner if he can recommend a dish for you if you don’t know what to try. I tried the fish, salad and a mixed grill. Perfect for an early evening dinner and a stroll around the waterfront with a partner.
Definitely one restaurant to visit if you are ever in the area!

Fabulous Lebanese Restaurant to rival it’s Central London competitors.
The great choice of fantastic dishes each one fresh and tasty. The hardest part will be going through the amazing menu and deciding what to order!
Don’t get me started on the great Lebanese wine’s on offer too!
The view over Millharbour dock is lovely and so close to Canary Wharf. Great staff, fantastic service and reasonably priced… what more can you ask for?!
