Cute place to stop by for lunch before heading into the Tate Modern Museum(in London) to explore the artwork and exhibitions. I ordered a Monteenebro Goats’ Cheese with Iberico Ham on Sourdough Toast and Honey Truffle Dressing( ) and a Pale Ale(for Tate Modern’s 10th Year Anniversary)( ). YUM! There’s also outdoor seating, so if the weather is nice… sit outside and soak up some sun!

This café/restaurant is situated in the Tate Mordern on ground level right hand side of the building. It’s great and we always choose to eat here rather than use the snobby members room, oh yes we are members, because the staff here are so friendly and helpful and the food is good quality and value. Fish and chips are a solid choice and the chips are super. The big rustic burgers always please me with chips. And finally did I mention the chips, well the chips are good too! When you visiting a city and packing in a lot to see like the Tate you need solid reliable eateries en route. Somewhere to eat and somewhere to stop for a good cup of coffee. These are the things we need as city explorers and Café 2 fits that bill.

I came here with my family one frigid holiday weekend after spending the day exploring the Tate Modern. We were hungry, but initially divided about eating here… «Should we? Shouldn’t we? It’s only the museum’s café…» But in the end, we did — and didn’t leave unhappy about the decision. To start, this restaurant really understands that their customers are a mixed bag in terms of likes and levels of hunger — and their menu reflects this. Their mains include everything from a dilled salmon and butternut squash curry… but they also have a whole range of smaller dishes(from a mezze plate to a mushroom tart) and little bites like olives and nuts… and of course, scones and such for tea. Among us there were quite a few bowls of soup, as well as a sandwich wrap, and I believe, a serving of halibut. Everything was fresh and well-put-together — not over-the-top extraordinary, but enjoyable and somewhat artistically presented in that mode that is so standard of museum restaurants. Even though the chairs and tables here are bit cafeteriaesque, the fact that the café is all glass, and provides a view of the riverside terrace, slightly makes up for this in terms of atmosphere. Before we departed, we all wanted a round of hot chocolate(it was just that sort of day). This came out in the trademark Tate Modern mugs and was creamy and appropriately chocolaty — not *too* sweet, as is sometimes hot chocolate’s downfall; it was the perfect thing to fortify us in preparation for our icy walk across Millennium Bridge.
