Great chilled place to get a coffee. Salads are good as are the omelettes. Other than that the food is standard at best. Also a little on the pricy side compared to other places doing better versions of the same food. On the plus side it does have a lovely seating area and chilled atmosphere. Also as it is a tiny bit more expensive than most places on the high st it’s nearly always half empty. Perfect if you just wanna chill out and relax.

I had poached eggs with smoked salmon and really liked it but my two friends had English breakfasts and were underwhelmed. Service is good but good can take a while.

Since this place is just down the street from my job, I felt the need to stop in and sample their wares. My baguette with chicken and avocado was delish, and the desserts look ‘Oh-My-God’ Amazing… seriously, my biggest regret right now is not getting the strawberry cheesecake. My friends also had a panini and soup and declared them to be above average. Combined with the ambience of bright mediteranian colours and you have a beautiful café with pretty darn good paninis, baguettes and sandwiches that one can relax at in the middle of a work day.

This is a lovely looking café I always wanted to try. Finally one Sunday morning I ventured in and had a very tasty English breakfast. The food wasn’t greasy and the service was good, although I almost had to beg for my smoothie to be brought to the table. The décor is homely and clean and the lighting towards the back makes it very cosy and nice. The prices are reasonable but a little more than your basic greasy spoon. Although saying that they are far more attractive establishment than your basic back street café.

Café Renoir is one of the seemingless endless cafes/sandwich shops that seem to be in London. On Kentish Town Road in Kentish Town, it always seems to be busy — a good sign for any establishment! And after a couple of visits, I realised why there are busy — because it’s good! It’s got a good range of café fare, and, rare in this city, they serve a semi-decent coffee. Service is fast and hassle-free, and staff are friendly enough.

A famous Hungarian poet, Attila Jozsef has an equally famous poem bearing the title Szuletesnapomra, meaning For my Birthday. Well, Café Renoir stands for this poem, for me, for my birthday –a poem of pleasant surprise, feeling at ease, meaningful part of one’s life, of everything what a café is supposed to be like. I’ve been observing this place for quite a while just through the windows of bus no. 393. Platonic love?! Can’t be that. I’ve never really tried to get to know it. From the outside it did seem the kind of café which has that particular inspiring touch, a place which could be one of those Parisian cafes so temptingly described by Agnes C. Poirier in her book Touché. The standalone ones, with authenticity, originality, personality –which cannot be copied in a chain. Too scared to have a dissapointment I kept postponing to try it out. Kentish Town? Let’s get serious –was telling to myself. Café Renoir IS what it seems like from the outside Impressionist sensation, a day enveloped in colours of yellow and orange painted on brick, aroma of coffee and zest of a fresh food, pile of newspapers, two rooms of comfort and cozyness, various fellow customers –friends, intellectuals, businessmen, artists, individuals A place to make it your home where new ideas can get to light. No need to disconnect from the outside world, if you do not wish to. Wireless internet connection is available. Enjoying my café au lait and croissant(thank you to whoever invented it) I rested my eyes on an impressing wall-painting in the second and more stygian room –which proved to be one of the artist Staphan Sarkissian’s works, his only public comission, called A Parisian Scene. Art, the food of dreams . My only regret about having stepped into Café Renoir is the cashier to call me ‘darling’ –hate that word. So plain, meaningless in English everyday language.
