Rating des Ortes: 2 Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom
I’m going to be quite harsh here. Whilst they gave me wine at the perfect temperature the service here is not good quality. We were sat inside and asked very quickly for our drinks order. Good start. However, the menu is fairly simple and we waited a very long time for an order request. After I finished my first wine, just before the main course arrived, I had many staff pass and even my empty glass taken away with nobody asking if they could get us anything. We had to do the effort of waving down a member of staff and ordering a drink. This may seem fussy to a reader, but they automatically add 12.5% to your bill for service. It’s not much of a service when all they do is fetch stuff at their convenience. I would be happy to save £10 and collect my own stuff at my convenience. Nandos even deliver to your table and they don’t charge service. However moving on. The starter mixed platter was good. The calamari was usual restaurant quality. One piece was cooked well. The rest a bit over cooked for safety. The main I had was a massive rip off. £22 for pieces of a poorly cooked steak. It is draped on a mountain of rocket salad. Literally like a whole £1 bag from Tesco. So about £4 for each little finger sized piece of steak. It looked absolutely nothing remotely like the picture in the menu. On the positive side the cakes in the window look amazing and the wine was lovely and at a very sensible price which made me happy. The place is small and narrow but looks great. It’s very comfortable, but with the plastic sheets outside they try to expand the dining space which can cause it to be cold. I finished my meal with my coat on as the 10 degree outside temp was very much getting inside the main restaurant. I’ll never dine here again as there is so much choice in London it is easy to find a better place.
