John Lewis store in Westfield. I went there a few times and i have always found staff helpful and knowledgeable(and if not, they were taking the time to check) especially in the TV/Sound area. A bit on the expensive side — it’s a John Lewis store, no real surprise here — but generally quality products

Bought an ipad from John Lewis. After observing husband eyeing it like a dog coveting a juicy bone I decided to use John Lewis online and order him one as a surprise. Order was accepted, money was taken fromPayPal and I emailed husband the details to print up. Imagine my fury when a few minutes later the cash was returned to my account and the sale declined. I rang customer service and got a surly response from an ignorant woman repeating ’ security’ as a reason for not completing the transaction. Yes I was refused a second ipad because I had purchased one earlier in the week. I have concluded that not only is John Lewis never knowingly undersold but given the opportunity they will not sell to me at all. Rationing of goods made me shop elsewhere for ipad and John Lewis ruined a surprise and earned ill feeling rather than cold hard cash.

John Lewis is one of the bigger stores in Stratford’s Westfield, which stretches over about 2 floors and has its’ own parking, but it still will never be in contention with their flagship store on Oxford Street, which is 8 miles away and 30 minutes on public transport, if you are a tourist in London and looking to visit John Lewis, I would recommend going to the Oxford Street branch, which is much larger and their flagship store, however this one is still a good size, and you can avoid the crowds of the store, and Oxford Street in general by choosing to visit this branch. John Lewis is one of the few places in Westfield with lifts, that are easy to find, however the lifts seemed to be faulty on my visit, they was 2 lifts, one of them seemed to have faulty doors, which kept closing and opening randomly, even when no button was pressed, which got me stranded in the car park, after it did finally move, I was stuck in the car park, waiting for the other lift, and the big problem was until that lift went up or down, the other lift was never going to come to me. They really should have regular lift maintenance to avoid getting customers stranded in a car park, which could really inconvenience the customer. One of my main reasons for visiting John Lewis, was mainly to use the lift and this really did let me down, the staff didn’t seem too great either in asking me if I needed any help, or directing me to the lift I actually needed, or even warning me about a problem with the lift. This does seem like a nice store, but still it will never be in contention with the nearby Oxford Street branch, and due to lift and staff problems, I feel this store only deserves 2 stars.

The store has an average range for a John Lewis store, and is reasonably easy to locate being at the end of Westfield Stratford City that is closest to Stratford International. On four recent occasions I visited John Lewis Stratford to get some information before buying a TV. I was not served at any point, in fact I was actively ignored by some of their staff. There was only one advisor in the TV department, who was working flat out. His feckless, lazy supervisor was hiding in another department, stood watching the Olympic games on the TV sets he was supposed to be selling. After my last visit I was so annoyed I filled in a comment form and took it to customer service department at Westfield Stratford. I later checked at a different John Lewis store to see whether my complaint had been logged. Unsurprisingly they told me that my complaint was not on their computer systems and that they must have mislaid it. Frankly this is not indicative of the usual John Lewis service, however John Lewis Stratford is not your typical John Lewis store. It’s complete and utter crap. The service from staff is at best indefferent, and at worst simply rude. My advice is however to use another store in Westfield Stratford City or if you must use John Lewis to pick one of their other stores either John Lewis, Oxford Street or Peter Jones at Sloane Square.

Just like any other John Lewis. But here is a tip for OLYMPICS2012VIEWERS They are charging 2 pounds to see the Olympic Park from their«Viewing Area», in addition to making you wait in a long queue. Instead, you can get a free view from the floor directly below their 2012 London shop, or simply go into the shop instead and you’ll get the EXACT same view if you look through the patterned glass. I felt bad for everyone in line and paying money because I got two shots of the park which were exactly the same that they got — for free.

A nice big multistorey John Lewis at the back end of Westfield is a must visit for anyone heading to Stratford in 2012. Why? Because as well as being yet another decent department store(almost all John Lewis’ are), it also has the best view of the Olympic Park and currently houses a giant Lego version of the Olympic stadium. The best way to the top floor is up the escalators at the back, and about the first thing you see as you get up there is the crowds around the Lego sculptures. As well as the mind-blowing stadium filled with literally thousands of assorted Lego men(look for Darth Vader) they also have Lego sculptures of a Dalek and C3P0. In fact, the toy department which is about half of the top floor, is pretty well dominated by Lego. Beyond the Lego and toys is the official Olympic store, with a panoramic view of the Olympic Park. Probably the best view you can get if you don’t have a ticket that gets you in. The official store is a bit of a pain, crowded with Mandeville and Wenlock stuff that costs way more than it should and can only be paid for with Visa and cash. A useful tip if you don’t have Visa is that you can pay for the same stuff at the tills elsewhere in John Lewis with any normal card.

I love John Lewis and this one is sooo much more convenient for me than their Oxford St location. It’s also a doddle to drive to if you are buying bulky stuff and it’s never THAT busy. Paying for stuff is usually quick and easy. It’s not as big as some of their other stores but it’s pretty much got the lot. Some of the staff are still a bit clueless about what they should be doing and keep running off to ask supervisors how to do stuff(like order blinds, give refunds etc.) but give ‘em time(although it has been open a good 5 months already). They price check stuff so if you can find it anywhere else cheaper(but not online) they’ll drop their prices hence why some large saucepans are cheaper than smaller ones. It’s almost the only place at Westfield that I spend any money. There and the Waitrose downstairs which you have to exit the shop to get to.
