Excellent value for the price. Everything is very fresh and tasty. They also hand out discounts for fun. Unlike the other places on brick lane it’s usually quite full. We ordered the vegetable biryani(which was very fresh and nice), channa masala(which was okay) and the chicken vindaloo(which was spicy as hell just the way I like it). Don’t miss out on the poppadams.

The lunch special is a decent deal for 7 pounds or so, but the food just wasn’t that great. I had the kebab which was decent. The saag chicken was the worst I have ever had. The sag was literally chunks of tomato and onion with some spinach sprinkled on it… So not a rich creamy sauce you expect. Overall not a great experience.

A great stop at Brick Lane for Indian food. Decided to choose this place over the one next door and bargained for a student discount. Service was good. I liked the food and for my friends who were trying Indian for the first time-they enjoyed it. Reasonable amount of people in the restaurant, clean facility. Ordered the tandoori chicken masala and it was good but not the best ever. I would recommend this establishment.

I was looking for a place to take my uncle, he wanted to have a nice curry while visiting London and since this is not my specialty I came to Unilocal and search for a place. The reviews were not so up to date but we decided to try this one out anyway. When we sat down the restaurant had probably four tables, and to waiters, which I consider a good rate. We ordered king prawn to start, and I got a garlic naan and a chicken masala curry as a main course. I’m not very good handling things with coriander, but I managed to put all the green away and enjoy my curry. It was good, but not excellent. The service was very«confused» and whenever we asked a question he would answer something completely different than what we wanted to know. Since 2010 the price has obviously raised. So now an average curry is about 9 pounds. If you wish to pay less come on weekdays after 1pm, they have a 20% discount.

walking down this part of brick lane reminded me of my travels in south asia… for a split second you forget you’re in london, especially haggling with the restaurant touts desiring your business… this is my first restaurant that i ate at in brick lane and i wasn’t disappointed… they had a good selection dishes in their menu… the service was excellent the venue was smart and the food was cheap… after bargaining each person got 4 courses including 2 alcoholic drinks for 10 pounds each… this is one of those times that you definitely get more that what you pay for! would i go back? maybe and not because i didn’t like it but because i want to try out the many other recommended restaurants on brick lane. for a first timer 100% try it out…

It was my first time visiting Brick Lane and I was aiming to stop by the UpMarket for small bites/lunch. Along the path there are endless numbers of Indian restaurants and every single one would try to offer you a «special deal», reminds me of Little Italy in NYC. I finally gave in as it was getting late and I was hungry, so I was convinced by the guy at Clippers to give it a shot. Décor was clean and simple, wait-staff were nice, food was decent. 2 of us each ordered an appetizer, entrée, nan, rice and a drink, it was £20 including VAT and gratuity. A good deal that satisfied my hunger.

Clipper is a great value on Brick Lane, and I was pleased with my experience! We «negotiated» at the door for a complimentary drink with dinner and 20% off our bill. Inside, we were please with the neat and clean décor and attentive service. We feasted on papadams and chutneys to start, then butter chicken, saag paneer(stewed spinach with cheese), vegetable curry, rice and garlic naan. We were pleased with everything we ordered and thought the quality was satisfying especially considering the very affordable price point. Our meal was 25GBP for two people and we left full and happy!

Good food, except the tikka masala was awful — worse than out of a jar. Tasted like half a bag of sugar had been thrown in! Service was good and they gave us a good deal too. Décor is nice enough. Only other negative was the haggler guy outside yelling at a homeless guy wandering past — the whole restaurant went quiet!

Stale papadums Mild to almost tasteless prawn purée Secret of Sylheti not particularly subtle or interesting. Typical Indian restaurant trying to get you to over order &/or choose more expensive dish. Did know there was a lunch menu until after I started eating and next table asked for it Not understanding the hype

I’ve been to Clipper twice now and both times have been great. It’s a bit of a challenge to walk fairly far up Brick Lane past all the other restaurant recruiters, but it’s worth it! The staff are so super friendly. The main fella recognized me even though it had been about 5 months between visits and chatted with me as though we were friends who go way back. The food is really, really delicious. This recent trip I ordered the Hyderabadi Lamb which is basically just a big lamb party with big pieces of lamb as well as lamb mince. Paired with the garlic rice, oh yum. And the lime and chili chutney(or is this considered a pickle?) is to die for. Both times I’ve visited there’s been a fairly large crowd inside, not a ghost-town like other Brick Lane establishments, which I think is fairly indicative.

Last week I visited Brick Lane in Whitechapel for the first time, and was overwhelmed by the amount of Indian restaurants there. There are simply so many to choose from. Having literally struggled to get through the door of Tayyabs we decided to head to back to Brick Lane having been there during the day. Faced with the opposite problem of being pestered by waiters in the street and bombared with deals, we chose Clipper, simply because it was full and no one bothered us when we looked at the menu. I’m really glad we did. The restaurant is really small and simply decorated giving it a cosy atmosphere. The food was great, bettered only by the service. I had a vegetable dhansak and it was perfectly flavored and full of fresh veg. The bill was very reasonable and I left very full! I am surprised that this restaurant hasn’t already been reviewed because I was really impressed. I’m sure I will go back to Brick Lane the next time I’m in London, and I would definitely go straight back to Clipper.

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy bartering with the Brick Lane curry house bouncers. Sometimes I’ll just go down there with no intentions of eating just to make sure my skills are still in top form. Clipper was a risk as it was the absolute lowest price we managed to haggle along the stroll, which is generally a bad sign. Luckily in our case, the £6.95 for two courses including either rice or naan and a free drink proved to be a winning gamble. Sticking with chicken around the table, I found the korma was creamy and coconut-y to my heart’s content and the saucy madras was the perfect spice level.(I would have ordered the vindaloo had I wanted to burn my face off or a curry if I wanted a soft-core sauce experience. Mmmmk?) The quote of the meal was: «It’ll take about five minutes for the mango lassi to arrive as it’s not pre-mixed». Good sign. I take that back — g-r-e-a-t sign. This five minute wait carried over to the hot and freshly prepared dishes as well as to some of the best naan I’ve ever enjoyed devouring. Puffy, piping hot and perfectly dense. Nom Nom Naan! It’s easy to get curried away along Brick Lane, but Clipper is definitely where I’d recommend tuk-tuking in.(Don’t mind me, just patting my punny self on the back…)

This was not only some of the best food I have had in London but also the best service. I came here alone because I was exploring the neighborhood and the staff treated me as more of a friend than a customer. The lentil soup was delicious and the vegetable curry was so good that I also ordered takeout to eat the next day. But as good as the food was, as an American, i can honestly say the majority of the service I have received in the UK has been nothing short of sub-par. Not so at Clipper! My water was constantly refilled, they chatted with me in a completely normal way and were attentive and polite. The street is full of indian restaurants– Brick Lane is known as Little India but I can honestly say I will be reccommending this restaurant alone to all my friends just based on this great experience.

Went with a group of four after it being recommended to me. It didn’t let us down. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. I have been to so many curry houses where you leave feeling ill and bloated. Clippers left us all feeling perfectly sated. The curries themselves all went down well, and it was not at all expensive. Brick Lane can be a bit overwhelming if you go without an idea of a restaurant to frequent. Everyone should know that Clippers is a good bet. I will certainly return(in fact my ex-housemate texted me the other day asking the name of Clippers). Lovely stuff

I’ve been here three times and they have all been great experiences. Today was the first time that I have gone for lunch there and they do a brilliant deal of a starter and mains for £5.90. I had onion bajee to start which was gorgeous and my main course was nice, chicken korma with naan bread. Although it was brilliant value I prepared what I ordered off the a la carte menu the other times though so next time I’ll go for that instead. Two of us ate lunch today with cokes for £18.50 which is great. The best thing about this place is the poppadoms to start because they bring out 4 amazing sauces to eat them with so be sure to ask for them. The pickle sauce is extremely spicy so approach with caution.
