Rock solid — my local. Food consistently good. Excellent open atmosphere — light in day and cozy at night. Specials vary and are good. Good beers on tap. The pub quiz is long gone these days(maybe 3 – 4 years ago they did away with it). OK for dining alone. Excellent for lunch too. If it is really busy — try across the street at the Drayton Arms. Lamb burger is one of my favorites.

Few notches above the normal pub, this is clearly a gastro pub. Not a restaurant as such either, would be perfectly fine to sit here just with a beer or two. When in Rome do as the Romans do(or at least they used to do…) so I went with fish and chips & pint of Doombar bitter for a total sum of £16. Beer was fine, the main dish was also fine. Not the best fish & chips I’ve had but certainly above the average. Portion was not huge but big enough. Quite posh inside but still rather homey, not an easy combination to achieve but here they IMHO have it. Would I return? Yes for sure

This was my local for a good 1+ year. I love it. It’s cozy when the weather is crappy and I prefer the food to Anglesea Arms(down the street). It can get packed during games.

When I initially walked in, this place seemed great. Nicer pub, lots of cool wooden features(I’m a sucker for giant unfinished solid wood tables). Alas, I stepped up to the bar and soon I was singing a different tune. First, the placement of the tables relative to the bar is a bit silly considering it’s a pub that gets very busy quickly. I had to maneuver in between tables and finally squeeze myself up against the bar to avoid awkwardly standing next to a table. Unfortunately, I guess this meant the bar staff couldn’t see me as after 5 minutes of waiting they still proceeded to serve a guy who came up after I was already standing there(Dear guy, I know you saw me standing there waiting to order and no, staring at the ceiling once we’ve locked eyes doesn’t mean you can pretend you didn’t). I go to order my usual Guinness(having to repeat it 3 times) and I’m handed something light and pale… um…‘I ordered a Guinness?’ I say to the British barman. He looks annoyed, takes the beer in my hand and proceeds to pour me a Guinness. The guy next to me(not the guy above) confirms that I definitely said Guinness the first 3 times. Finally I get my Guinness, pay the normal Zone 1 – 2 prices(about £4.50) and head back to my table. Next time I attacked the bar head on and the service was better although still a bit strange. It was a Saturday night but the place was average busy, not completely swamped. I didn’t order food but some people at my table did so I tried one fry/chip. It wasn’t anything special so I declined to eat any more. All in all, I was prepared to be impressed and instead I’d probably opt for something else when I’m in the area again. Not the worst place you can go and maybe it was an off night, but not something I feel the need to go back to, either.

This is my local. And there’s good reason. Aside from the fact it’s not far from my flat. Solid food. Burgers are always good. My lamb shank steak(strange right) was great the other night but almost over-shadowed by the really well done side of lentils with sweet potatoes and tomatoes. The best are the glazed sausages to start. My favorite. House bottles of red and white are a good deal and taste quite nice. Selection of beers, will even let you taste. Several tvs if there’s a match on. The only challenge is getting a table for dinner on some nights. But the staff is helpful to find a seat — one woman(whose name I have never learned) is the best. Not tall with short hair. Always helps to find my other local friends a table for dinner and drinks. As for popularity, some nights all tables taken with lots of standing room, others you can barely walk squeeze through the crowd. It’s taken me over half a year to join the G Club(Geronimo Pubs Club) but I just did. Hope to make use of some of those benefits. I really like this joint.

I enjoy the Duke of Clarence. It’s a pub with good food, nice servers and a warm atmosphere. You are able to run a tab at the bar which is convenient. The food is a little overpriced but worth it. Their burger is great, served on the side — skinny fries, mustard, ketchup and three chutney options. They tend to cook towards the rarer side so keep in mind when you order the how you like it cooked, the waitress gave us a heads up on this too. It’s in my neighborhood and look forward to visiting frequently. They usually are showing some televised sporting event when occurring.

This is the sort of pub you’d love to have for your local. And you might even put on your list for when you’re in Earl’s Court, which isn’t often. You could almost call it a clean, well-lit place to drink. Windows all round lend a friendly atmosphere, and an excellent selection of ales(Tribute, Doom Bar, and… oh, something else which I’ve forgotten) Aspall cider on draught. The food looked fantastic, though I had to go down the road as I was meeting friends. I may be back for a roast, and if it’s good enough, another star.

Prior to moving to London I tended to stereotype pubs: old carpet, old bar, old men. Now I understand that those pubs are but a subsection of the broader pub community and the Duke of Clarence is definitely a very distant cousin, if related at all. The Duke of Clarence is an upscale classy joint. How can you tell? Well, for one thing the special last night was a carefully prepared steak with poivre and mushroom Lyonnaise sauce. Second, it has its own dedicated Bloody Mary menu with no fewer than five varieties, including one featuring Belvedere vodka. Finally, the women languishing around the bar were dressed to the nines, including a envy-inducing pair of Chanel heels on the woman standing beside me. So is this my new«local»? Well, maybe but sometimes you just want a drink and not all the swank. Sometimes old carpet is a good thing.

The D.O.C as we all nickname it… is an amazing venue — especially on sports matches nights… lots and lots of the usual eligible locals all pack in on such nights — an excellent time to organise and impromptu girly supper. Food is generally very good — however I was a bit disappointed with the Roast lunch there… seemed a tad over priced for what was delivered — however the rest of the food is fairly priced. ALSO — you must try the scotch eggs behind the bar — served with mustard and ketchup… what more could you ask for after a hard days work!!!

This is a nice recently-refurbished pub between south Kensington and earls Court. The crowd has in the last decade or so changed substantially and it is now firmly on the sloaney side of the area’s social spectrum. Drinks prices are not bad, with my personal indicator(the lime-soda price) at £1.15. But where the pub falls short is in selling itself as some sort of a gastro-pub. the prices are hardly great value, and I have to say that while some dishes are fine(starters, calamari etc…) the pub regularly screws up the more«elaborate» dishes. this would be understandable if the elaborate dishes didn’t actually include basics like steak. Three of us had it there once and it was horribly chewy on all three plates. So if I were you I’d stay with the beans on toast or bangers and mash kind of dishes, which are well-executed. The Cow this pub is not.

Decent pub. Looks nicer than it feels, if that makes sense. I found the staff very rushed and not particularly attentive. It was crowded(and this was on a Wednesday or some not particularly exciting night) and the clientele was a little too snobbish for me. I prefer the Drayton over the road a hundred times over, but that’s just me.

This was our hang out in London… our home away from home. Such a laid back environment with such a friendly and welcoming staff. Great traditional English dishes such as Shepard’s Pie and bread pudding(although we all know England is not exactly known for it’s great cuisine). But none the less, if you want to unwind at a unpretentious, neighborhood pub with some good old comfort food and a glass of stout this is the perfect spot

I spent a few months in London for work. Yes, I am an American. I frequented this place and really enjoyed it. The people were nice, great atmosphere and the food isn’t bad either! It may not be the most traditional of pubs, but I liked it. Quiz Night was fun too. Met some good people.

Despite not really liking this pub, I keep finding myself there and growing to accept it. It’s OK for the following reasons:(1) they show a lot of sports, and while I do not particularly appreciate this, many of my friends do;(2) they make pretty good bloody marys and always ask«how spicy?»;(3) it’s bright so excellent for daytime drinking;(4) they have a good wine list for a pub;(5) they are located close to Nam Long and Tendido Cero.

One of the better pubs of the area with a good wine and beer selection. Food looks great too, although I have to admit I didn’t sample. On a lovely day, you’d be lucky to get one of the limited seats outside.

The Duke of Clarence, located in Chelsea, lives up to your expectations for a posh pub. It serves expensive(for a pub) but good food, and has big sofas and plenty of chairs and tables. If you are looking for a big pub to go with a large group of friends and all have the space to sit then it is the good one. It’s got a huge table with benches and chairs so everybody can sit and chat. What makes it even nicer is that it closes at midnight instead of the early eleven of the places around. The beer is the normal price for Chelsea but it is in a quiet area so no worries when you leave late and vulnerable. Nice beers, nice wines and a good time with plenty of friends around the main table
