The food was great. Very typical for a pub. Order at the bar and then they bring you your food. We had the steak and ale pie and the fish and chips. Both were very good.

The Stanhope Arms is a rubbish chain pub that is void of any genuine atmosphere. I feel so sorry for the tourists, who seem to be it’s main clientele, who think that this is a true ‘British pub’ — they would do better to walk about 5 minutes up the road. Its saving grace is the absolutely lovely staff. If I could give a rating just for the staff, they’d get 5 stars.

Three and a half stars. Stopped by on a Thursday evening around 6:00. Although I expected standard pub self-service, we were quickly seated by a very helpful waitress who took our order. Steak and ale pie with mash and veg was just okay, ending up somewhat dry and lacking in flavor; chicken and mushroom pie was deemed better. Had the 1703(?) ale, which was quite good. Service was fast and very friendly. If the steak and ale pie had been better, this would be a highly recommended pub for me. Nevertheless, I’d definitely go back and try other menu items, due to the welcoming staff.

Great London pub. My first time in London and this feels like what a London pub should be. Mostly locals. Decent beer choices. Didn’t try the food so can’t give that review. Stop in for a pint!

We stopped in for a bite to eat and were honestly disappointed with the food, it was a bit expensive, and options were quite limited. The service was okay, We did however stop back later in the evening and even on a Monday Night this bar was busy, so bottom line. Go if your getting drinks, not food.

The food is decent but generic. The service is awful. When we arrived the pace was packed. Guy assured us he could get is a table and directed us to the bar for drinks. When we finished ordering drinks he then proceeded to seat the party of 6(we were three) who had just walked in. Completely bypassed us. We then sat at the bar, and ate a mediocre meal while being ignored by the bartender. It took us so long to pay we were actually considering skipping in hopes that that might get the bartender’s attention. Overall, it’s a no for me.

A good solid pub in a fancy location. The service was good and the food good and well presented. I had the steak and ale pie and mash with my friend having fish and chips. Given that my friend is over from the states and it was her first fish and chips in a long time the fact that she loved it shows how good it was. The range of ales and wines are good and the décor appropriate to the venue. All in all a solid good.

Busy South Ken pub offered a destination on a cold London night. No complaints with the bar staff — friendly and accurately second guessed my choice of ale(I didn’t like the first one). We found a comfy spot in the corner and ordered some nibbles. Scampi and onion rings — ok and a bit odd as we usually don’t go for deep fried. Ok but had to fetch some forks myself. We shared a burger as we weren’t too hungry, it which was ok — nothing special though and hence why we are at 3 stars. The menu looked good and worth trying on another visit. Wine selection looked ok but a little pricey by the glass as it seems for pubs these days. Happy to return, friendly atmosphere and nice locale.

Spent the weekend in Kensington, and needed a local watering hole close to my Hotel. After aimlessly wandering the neighborhood, I came acoss The Stanhope Arms. This was the type of pub I was looking for. The area is safe, was close to other restaurants and bars… and cask ales galore, and a full bar… Oh my. Unfortunately, since it was a bit crowded, and opted out of ordering food… I chose to stick to my liquid diet… although everything I saw looking amazing. I tried every cask on hand that whole weekend(I ended each night here because it was so comfortable). Highly recommend if you need(want) a pint, want to be safe and comfortable… and a good meal, if you chose to eat. Cheers

I hit this place looking forward to having some traditional pub grub and suds near my hotel. Ambiance is nice and pleasant, certainly a lot of tourists there given its proximity to a number of hotels. The fish and chips was well proportioned, a bit bland though. I stepped away from my table with one third of it eaten to grab another beer and when I got back someone had taken my plate as if I was done putting the utensils on it and extras on the table. They returned it to me with an apology but they shouldn’t have done it and should have offered me a fresh plate or at least a beer and they did not. Thus three stars for spotty service faux pas.

Dropped by for a quick pint. Greene King on cask, plus what looks like a couple of other cask ales on rotation. Had a Taylor Walker 1730, which was well pulled and filled to the brim. If you loathe real ale, there’s some other rubbish on draught — kbourg, and some of the other usual suspects. Not a huge pub, fills up right fast in the evening. Service is prompt and polite. Didn’t get to try any of the food so I can’t say. Would pop by again if I stayed in the area.

Stopped by shortly after checking into our hotel about four blocks away and grabbed a tasty dinner. Wonderful waiter recommended my dad a local craft beer based on his other preferences back home(and let him sample it). Now, he keeps asking for Yakima Red every place we dine! My mom and I split the steak and ale pie, which everyone at the table kept asking to eat more of because it was so delicious after they were offered a bite. Psh. Back off my pie, people! My sister’s scampi and chips was amazing, as was my dad’s chicken and pancetta pie. Would have loved to try dessert, but I simply had no more room. I highly recommend this pub to anyone, both local and visiting.

A true London pub, at least, in my book LOL Everything we had was on point EXCEPT for the men’s bathroom. Oh lordy, lordy, lordy!!! We happened to sit near the men’s bathroom and EVERYTIME that bathroom door swung open, the rancid smell of urine went up my nose. I had to cover my nose and take a bigger sniff of my food and beer to rid that awful experience!(Btw, the women’s toilet is located on the OTHER side of the restaurant.) Ok, umm, now that I made that point across, let me tell you about the food and drinks! We had the following, which I highly suggest you try: — the Taylor Walker 1730 beer, which is a pale ale — sausages and mash(a Brit staple) — chicken, chardonnay, and pancetta pie(like a fancy chicken pot pie) Overall the environment was built in true pub fashion and the servers were warm and friendly. I would’ve given this place a 5 if it wasn’t for that rancid men’s bathroom.

We’ve stopped here many times for beer this past week and tonight we stopped for beer and dinner. We shared a Taylor Walker Favourites Platter. We liked it. The mini burgers were excellent, as were the mini minced beef pies. The fish fingers were«ok», but not like a full pub fish fillet. The chips were crispy brown like we like them. And there were about twice as much chips on our plate than is shown in the menu picture.

Excellent fish and chips and steak and ale pie, great atmosphere. Wouldn’t recommend the burger as much, but it was acceptable. Nice air conditioned space on a super hot London day. Order at the bar with your table number and grab a seat.

Stopped by here for breakfast. The café americano was very good and the full breakfast was everything I hoped it would be. Eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, tomaton and toast. All absolutely fantastic. Niki is happy to report that the eggs benedict was the best she has had in some time. Reasonable prices, friendly staff, great food. How can you go wrong?

We were there to watch a football match on the telly. They had one very large screen and a normal sized one. We saw that Chelsea cheat(Costa) stomp on the ankles of 2 separate Liverpool players. Quelle disgrace. Although we didn’t partake, the food looked nice and yummy. The drinks were more than I expected them to be, even granted the location. It’s just across the street from a Waitrose, Starbucks and Gloucester Road tube station. Plus, there’s all sorts of other food and drink places around, so no shortage of that sort of thing. There seemed to be a lot of USA folk there. I don’t know if they were tourists(if so, why go to that particular pub?) or if they lived/studied in the area. I must confess that if wanted to take some visitors to a genuine pub, I’d hesitate about going there. But only because of the lack of English people there. Are there any English people left in London anyway?

As we waited for our hotel room to be ready, we decided to venture across the street for lunch. With a row of pubs along Gloucester Road, there was no shortage of places to get fish and chips. Located across the street from the Gloucester Station, The Stanhope Arms predominantly had a clientele of business people and tourists. Given the fact that we had just arrived in the city, I wanted fish and chips for lunch. Shortly after placing our order at the bar, our meal arrived at our table. The cod had a great, even fry and the fish underneath was flaky. Accompanying the fish, the chips were crispy and the peas had a hint of sweetness. Although the meal wasn’t anything spectacular, the food was solid and the portion was large. It was the perfect introductory meal to welcome me to London.

What a nice place! Este pub me quedaba cerca del hotel y fui por eso pero me sorprendió muy gratamente! Pub inglés en estado puro! Hamburguesas, fish&chips, tomato soup, baked potatoes, pintas, moqueta, madera… Amor total Gloucester road :)

Your typical neighborhood English pub. Atmosphere: lively, not overly crowded or loud Crowd: mostly local Drinks: good selection of beer, the prosecco I had was lovely Food: the menu items were very attempting(all sorts of meat pies, fish n chips) but they stopped serving food at 9:30 — 10pm if I remember correctly . Service: the bartender was very very friendly. This makes it a 5-star pub to me :) Décor: classy English bar, not too over the top

YES!
