Lovely candlelit ambience in the evening. Intimate, mostly due to the limited space and tables close together. Older, sophisticated crowd of business folk and jovial friends/couples. Expensive drinks — £6 for mulled wine. Definitely book if you plan to eat, as space is scarce and it was pretty packed mid-week. We just had drinks but I was eyeing up the food with interest. I’m sure I’ll be back to try it.

Best fish and chips I had on my recent trip to London. Classic pub atmosphere with upscale grub and excellent service.

Great ambiance and a warm welcoming wait staff. The bar area gets busy so get a reservation if you want to enjoy the scene. My friend and I enjoyed a great meal upstairs which included a shared steak tartare which was perfectly seasoned and delicious. I enjoyed their duck leg confit for the main course — traditional yes but cooked to perfection. Added to this a great wine list and reasonable pricing for the quality and the Duke is well recommended.

Pub atmosphere downstairs fills up quick. Seemed like most people had reservations. We did not and were seated upstairs. I had a artichoke soup and cauliflower salad, both were delicious. Great flavor! My husband went for pork roast and that was ok. The steak roast our friend ordered looked amazing. Cooked perfectly just pink enough. Tired Yorkshire pudding and it tasted great. Another table ordered a hamburger that looked amazing as well. Dessert was pretty tasty as well. Drinks were pricer then I’ve seen and the food was actually moderately priced.

Nice place to hangout. One of the few, not-so-pricey place in Baker street. Food options are limited but generally good.

Sophisticated and classy pub, upmarket crowd. Lovely food and fabulous place to sit outside when it is sunny. Gastropub style food, friendly staff, fairly pricey but no more than expected given the area.

We came for Sunday roast at around 1 pm, and were almost not seated(due to a full restaurant). I’d recommend making a reservation if you want to try and come as the restaurant was pretty busy. I’d also come hungry, because the food was definitely incredibly filling. My boyfriend and I both started out with a crab bisque — very crab-like, and not very creamy, so it was very strong, which I had to get used to. I got the chicken and my boyfriend got the traditional roast beef. Both were served with the same sides of cabbage, creamed leeks, carrots, and potatoes that were roasted in duck fat. The sides were all very tasty, but sadly was too full to finish it all. I thought my chicken was cooked very well, and was a decent sized portion(not too try as well). The roast beef was flavorful as well and came with Yorkshire pudding. Wait staff was friendly and service was great!

On our first night in London, we stopped by this cozy gastropub for some comfort food on the way back to our Airbnb. The place is small and cozy, yet very trendy. I got the cheeseburger with coleslaw, gherkin and chips. The burger was simple and oh so juicy. There’s something about English grass-fed beef that’s just holy moly scrumptious. The homemade coleslaw was delicious, and also better than the American version of cabbage-mayo crap. I’m not a fan of American coleslaw(clearly) but I wish I got more of this lovely stuff! My partner in crime ordered a shepherd’s pie that came with greens. The pie wasn’t the best I had but still hearty and satisfying. Our server was a little difficult to get a hold of whenever we needed anything but she seemed pretty busy. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here and was a perfect start to an unforgettable trip to London.

I arrived in the rain at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon with no reservation, and was set up at the bar.(I was expecting to be turned away, so this was a great outcome) The roast beef was first rate. Nicely cooked, still warm and pink in the centre. Served with a great traditional selection of vegetables. The Yorkshire Pudding was nicely done, and delightful to mop up the gravy and the last of the vegetables. Do yourself a favour, make a booking for a Sunday lunch here. Have a roast(Beef, Pork, Lamb, and Chicken) were on offer the day I was here. This place is small, bustling, busy, and great fun.

Went after a long work day and the hotel suggested this. It was a small typical British pub, tables on top of each other, but good food and drinks. I had the burger with pulled pork and fries. So much food, but also so good. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding, excellent. You never know with hotel recommendations, so I was very happy this turned out good.

Very trendy people in a posh trendy place. It is cramped though and a bit cramped at the bar, although a fairly orderly wait. A cool place with old fashioned and trendy décor, that gives it an almost authentic feel. Where posh, very trendy people go and they like it. Not really a warm cosy place, but definitely quite fun.

I happened upon this pub my last night in town. It was a Thursday night, and the place was packed with what appeared to be locals. I looked at my coworker and I said, «I think we came to the right place.» We were fortunate to find two open seats at a table and ordered off the bar menu. I ordered the beer batter hake with mushy peas. I was really hoping for some cod, but this would have to do. I devoured the fish and frites! Delicious. I just wish I was given more fish. The mushy peas were okay. I mainly ordered them just to see what they tasted like. My coworker ordered the beef burger with pulled pork. That burger looked amazing. When I looked around the restaurant, it seemed quite a few people ordered the same. The pub was lightly staffed, yet service was prompt. Overall, I will definitely be back the next time I’m in town.

This place was like finding a diamond in the rough. The manager Steven was an incredibly bright and engaging fellow who made the place incredibly inviting. The drinks were great the atmosphere grand. While I did bit eat there the food looked very well made. I shall return.

We were in search of hearty Sunday Roast in Marylebone… And this, we got! I must say the roasts were quite lovely. Our group of 4 was lucky to settle in an outside table to enjoy a brisk fall day, ciders, bloody marys and 4 plates of roasted delicacies. Two of us had the lamb, one duck and one beef. Not a complaint all around… about the food. Tip: only the beef came with yorkshire pudding, so if you’d like one and order something else — get a few on the side. I would’ve liked one with my lamb! Here’s the unfortunate piece of the story — we arrived around 2:30pm on a Sunday as a group of 4, without a reservation. Tip: make one! It was busy, but not looking crazy. the tables were full with a few floaters looking for tables, but by no means nuts. Except if you asked the staff you would’ve thought there were hundreds of people waiting. They seemed so frazzled. Hmm. Being Americans(sorry, I try to fit in, really I do) on this particular Sunday was a bit of a drawback. It happened to be the same Sunday as the Vikings/Steelers game in London, and even though I was(obviously) not donning a football jersey and slugging booze and acting rowdy, many others were(annoying, by the way. Americans). It created some discord with the staff, and I must say — the service was quite poor. Hence the 3 stars. Otherwise, easily 4 or 5 based on the pub itself, the drinks and the food! We ended up basically ordering all of our food and drinks from the bar, despite having a server for our table. About midway through he just stopped showing up altogether. When spending £125+ on a meal, one expects there to be a bit of service involved. I’m absolutely fine with £18-£22 roast offerings, but let’s not make the guests get up and get their own stuff and wonder where the drinks are, and treat them like they are an inconvenience. So, overall — it was 3 stars. I loved the food, our friends loved the food. We had a great time sitting outside(though we had to really scope out a table and join a man finishing his meal — luckily he was happy to oblige and give us some tips on dining in London as he departed!), but the service was lackluster at best. Perhaps just a busy day and understaffed, but at this price point — let’s pull it together, Duke.

Sadly, I popped into the Duke too late to get food(8:00-ish on a Sunday night), but I did stay for a beer before heading off in search of sustenance, and I’m glad I did. The bartender was awesome and let me taste a few things before I decided on one, and the ambiance was standard British pub style, which is exactly what I needed after a long flight from NYC. The menu looked a little pricey, but had the kitchen been open, I would’ve spring for something. Next time, Duke.

Superb for a Sunday lunch. Food was excellent — really tender beef, beautifully cooked with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding to die for. Portion sizes were huge so go with a very empty stomach if you want to have a starter and dessert too! Staff very friendly too and nice ambience, music not too loud and easy to have a relaxed conversation. Recommended.

Nice atmosphere, but very expensive prices in comparison to what you get… As per usual in the UK, a really good piece of meat is wasted by too much cooking(although I explicitely asked for medium-rare).

One downside of staying at an awesome hotel booked at a bargain rate is that when you ask your concierge for an affordable neighborhood restaurant, he directs you not to the local tacqueria, but to a gastro pub that charges £4.75 for vanilla ice cream. Duke of Wellington was, however, a lovely gastro pub, and I understand why our concierge recommended it so strongly. When we arrived without a reservation, we were directed upstairs where there was an available table. Upon discovering that the menu was different and the atmosphere duller, we went back downstairs and opted to sit at the bar. When table space opened up, we were reseated. The downstairs area was 100% pub, and it had a fun, lively ambiance that Matt B. and I enjoyed. He had a beer and I had a nice Bloody Mary. Both went well with the pub. Service was excruciatingly slow at times, but we figured out pretty fast that the place was just understaffed. It was almost impossible to flag down our waiter, but only because he was constantly shuffling between tables. He was friendly and attentive when he was tending to us, but he was a busy man. The food was wonderful. I opted for an open ravioli of summer squash, teleggio, trompette, and cavlo nero with parmesan and herbs. This was a beautiful dish, like a fancy lasagna with its luscious layers and supple pasta. The mushrooms especially were really delicious, with some great sinewy texture. All the flavors worked well together to create a real taste of autumn. My only complaint — and I suppose it isn’t trivial — is that there were a lot of squash seeds, and they got in the way of every other bite. Matt got the fish and chips — deep-fried line-caught cod in beer batter with chips and tartar sauce. This was one of the best fish and chips I’ve tried. It was just a whole fillet of buttery cod battered and deep-fried with all moisture and flake preserved. My sweet tooth was aching for some sticky toffee pudding so we also got dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was out of control. It was a moist cake with a dense crumb but a pleasant amount of sponge, warm and sweet and wildly delicious. A scoop of banana ice cream served as the perfect counterpoint, cutting the richness and mellowing out some of the sweetness of the cake. As I alluded to earlier, Matt sprang for the outlandishly priced ice cream — they were out of coffee, so he got vanilla, and while it was good, it was also the price of a decent sandwich. Regardless, I was happy with our dinner and would pass on the recommendation of my concierge. It isn’t cheap, but you can do worse for worse food, and the vibrant, cozy atmosphere makes for an enjoyable meal. The food was great — British food is not something I crave, but the Duke of Wellington’s fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding left me impressed. I would keep this place on my list if I lived in the neighborhood.

A part of me still feels like a pub isn’t the best the place to find a cosy spot, order a drink, and settle in with a nice book. Duke of Wellington is definitely changing my mind. It’s a comfortable and cosy pub with an excellent restaurant upstairs. I dropped in because I heard about the solid wooden tables and comfortable environment but mostly because I needed a place to read with a glass of wine. Duke of Wellington is small but charming. In the evening, when dinner time starts, the place smells wonderful. It reminds me of coming into my friend’s home to visit and settling in for a good, solid, comforting meal. Verdict: If you’re in the area, this one’s worth a stop for a drink. If you have more time, try the dinner menu.
