Might be just me but I walked past this restaurant twice trying to find it. It is just a doorway at the top of the street. Unusual little restaurant which I found to be unusually quiet for the time of year I visited(i.e. the last working week before Xmas). It is a Chinese restaurant however, ambiance not Chinese at all. Reasonable selection of dishes although they seemed to be in the middle of ‘something’ when we dined there so were told that there were many items that were not available on that day, including some we wanted to order. I didn’t think the food was anything to shout about, reasonably tasty and filling. The ‘background’ music(which got a little loud for dining experience on occasions) was Christmas music so got rather irritating after a while. I think, even though it was Christmas time, different music, maybe more fitting to the dining experience they wished to offer, would have been better. Christmas music on a loop is not good regardless of the time of year. Waitress was friendly and informative. Very down to earth which I like. The dining area is not big and we were informed that, of a weekend, it is actually a club with people dancing on the bar area!!! not sure what to say on that matter. Nicely situated near Monument station but also middle ground for London Bridge, Cannon Street and Liverpool Street, being one of the reasons it was selected. I had Taste Card to use here which I think made it a reasonable price(couple of drinks, starter and main… no dessert menu was offered so I am assuming they either do not do, ran out(because they were ‘in the middle of something’) or just looking for us to leave sooner rather than later. Price was around £30 each. There were 2 other couples dining at the time we were there which, I don’t mind. Generally when I am out with one other/a small group, I want to be able to talk and catch up not shout and be squashed next to people I do not know who feel compelled to talk to you given the breach of personal space. I’d give this place another go. Good location, reasonable food, not too loud and to see what it is about when, it is not in the middle ‘of something’.

Ambience: dark, a little on the loud side, a hard to find entrance, and entry way that is not tall friendly. Service: very good. Very helpful. Food: took a fixed menu 20 pound per person. — fried starters of prawns and calamari. Acceptable but poorly spiced — beef chick and vegetables. Good but small portions. — extra order of king prawns 15 pounds for 3 prawns covered in a sauce to disguise that a) the heads are included to fill the dish b) the shell is still on the prawn. Miserable. Value: 70 pounds for 2 people for above plus 2 glasses of wine and a very average cocktail. Tl;dr don’t waste your time

I’ve known Fengshui from when it’s first opened and I can honestly say it still remains my favourite Cantonese restaurant in London for dinner, especially their a la carte menu. Being Cantonese myself with my dad a chef we do have high standards when eating out Chinese as we know what to expect. Sadly it is hard to find high quality Chinese in London nowadays without breaking your budget and looking at the Michelin restaurants. Thankfully there is Fengshui, a hidden gem just in Monument who have remained consistent throughout who not just offer high quality dishes cooked but excellent service too, more than just a smile. It was pretty much decided without hesitation that this was the restaurant to celebrate my Godmothers birthday and before even entering the restaurant they were so helpful via email, helping us organise the dishes for the night and allowed us to bring in a birthday cake at no extra cost. Without being a hypocrite their Hot and Sour soup did let us down on our last visit being too overly salted and was not consumable until we all poured half a glass of my water into it. However, after doing so we all appreciated it’s flavours, the quality and generous amount of ingredients in there. There was an abundant of varieties of mushroom including Enoki mushrooms, vinegary using the traditional Chinese wine vinegar for flavour which made it very appetising. Sadly it did lose it’s thick consistency after we poured water in it and of course it didn’t hide the fact the high salt content was still in there. My boyfriend’s soup however was perfectly seasoned. He ordered the Mermaid in the Mist which had fillets of Black cod with Goji berry. It was deliciously light, sweetened by the goji berries with a good depth from it from the stock used. Very nice. The mains we shared amongst us the Mongolian Style Venison which was incredibly succulent probably from the butter sauce used that was not so apparent as it was not drowning in sauce. The meat was very well flavoured, gamey and rich which a clean aftertaste as there was no access oil or msg used. The Black Pepper Beef Fillet which is our usual order has always won us for it’s tenderness and homemade black bean sauce just lightly covering the meat, mixed with a generous chunks of spring onions to optimise the flavour. We appreciate the wok energy in all their dishes bring out the flavours of the ingredients used to the fullest and in this case the beef. We also risked ordering the ever so popular sweet and sour pork but was so pleasantly surprised when it was enjoyed by everyone on the table and for some it was even their favourite. The batter was perfect, lightly coated so the meat was generous whilst still being crispy. Like the other dishes it wasn’t drowned in its own sauce and we weren’t just tasting pure sugar but the actual pork, tomatoes and pineapple. Probably best sweet and sour pork we’ve had in London. Mixed Seafood Gai Lan was just top class, a plate of fresh plump scallops, prawns and squid that was still translucent like they were caught in the morning with a generous amount of vibrant gai lan cooked well with garlic. I don’t know many Chinese that offers such a good varied vegetarian option with several tofu dishes available and also dishes like the Vegetarian Chicken with Black Pepper & sugar snaps which we ordered. This dish became many of our favourite too even though we were all meat eaters. The mock meat was had a lovely soft bouncy texture and did taste of meat although my boyfriend said more pork than chicken. The taste tasted in light even though the black bean sauce gave it a delicious smoky flavour. Ling Chi Mushroom Tofu is also a highly recommended dish and another favourite usual order of mine. Tofu just cannot get more silkier than this with a thicker coating around it to hold it together. It was a sweeter dish than the rest, very delicate in flavour and healthy tasting. The sauce over it was amazing, made with oyster sauce that really lifted the taste of the tofu. The mushrooms were bouncy, flavoursome and had a good bite along with the broccoli giving the dish a good contrast of textures. Rice was served in a bamboo container with a lid to retain the heat which was very thoughtful whilst everything else was presented beautifully, decorated with other fruits or vegetables on the side. My Godmother’s birthday became one to remember. Staff were amazing throughout, joking with us and made sure we were as comfortable as could be. They even brought out the cake with their own magic candles and sang for her. A big thumbs up to Lippy for his attentiveness, helping us with our order and also to the waitress who offered us fantastic service making sure our waters were refilled and plates were cleared efficiently. I seriously cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Food is cooked with care and given wok energy for ultimate quality all using the freshest of ingredients and good portions too. I will be back.

I popped in here the other day as I work locally(its right by Monument station). Its brand new and I’d just heard about it from a friend, Its underground but that adds to the stylish appeal, away from the bustle of the street. The food is delicate yet filling and the There were a lot of other enticing options on the menu apart from the Tang’s chicken we chose. I’d imagine it is also great just for after work drinks as the cocktails were magnificent, and the measures large. The service was also polite and unobtrusive. I’ll definitley be back as it is so near, and a great dining experience.
