Best fish and chips and service in Fulham, bar none. Been closed for a while but the two boys are back.

Terrible chips, probably the worst I’ve eaten in London. Chips were under cooked and not crispy at all.

Wow, what a difference a few years makes. And, unfortunately, a change of ownership. This is no longer staffed(or owned, I think) by the twins — instead, at my last visit there was a surly and consistently rude«chef”(?) kid who berated the customer ahead of us, and then us in turn when he queried the billing on the order, as they didn’t ring it up as their advertised special. The food, like the service, has also taken a dive — fish was mushy inside the fry coating, and the chips were undercooked and oversalted, and their meat pie was mostly pie and little meat. A real shame for this place.

The ‘small’ fish and chips was huge! The small cod was literally the size of my forearm. The fish itself was pretty good, the batter on the cod was fried up just right and it tasted pretty darn good. The chips were a bit of a let down, they tasted bland and soggy. But you can’t beat the Early Bird Special price on this. Definatley stop by for the great tasting fish.

Have known about this place for and absolute age… I remember when the Fisher brothers actually ran it. Anyway went past a few weeks ago and noticed that it was open again after taking like 300 years to re-build after the fire. Finally made the trip for Fish & Chips on Saturday 22 Sept 12. This is a review of the TAKEAWAY — On walking in I have to admit it looked a bit clinical not the homely local chipy that it used to be. Prices were about what I remember them to be and to be fair there top end but as they’ve always served top end F&C thats par for the course. Placed my order for a large Fish & Chips with the counter staff and immediately saw the fryer go to the fridge and select the fish dip it in batter and place it into the fryer. Was surprised and disappointed to see that the chips were pre-cooked. Once the fish had been cooked the chips were scooped in to a bag and the top folded down tightly. I HATE this as the steam can’t escape so the chips end up soggy. The fish went into a separate bag but had to have a 1⁄3? lopped off to fit. Sitting in the car I started with the chips after opening the bag with the fish to let it rest and ensure it stayed crisp. Have to be completely honest and say that the chips were a let down. They were dry and nicely defined but just not crispy no doubt the effects of being pre-cooked and then left waiting to be sold. In most chip shops I’d have rated them as good but Fisher’s have a reputation for top quality and there charging accordingly they really should be better. Whilst eating the chips I kept getting a really strong pungent fish smell from the battered fish bag. Not bad but like a very strong smell of pilchards. Anyway I started on the fish with trepidation. I shouldn’t have worried as I spent the next 5 minutes eating the BEST bit of battered cod I’ve had for a very long time. The batter was wonderfully crispy. An even coating covering the whole fish with the just the right thickness. The thick end had huge translucent meaty flakes that just tasted so fresh they were gorgeous. I also want to mention that the large cod really is large its almost too big for a single person. All in all I’m glad there back but I hope they’ll go back to frying the chips to order as it really did let down the whole meal finding the chips so average. I’ll feel able to give Fisher’s the final star as well! :) I’ll definitely be back…

Oh god, yes yes yes!!! The BEST fish and chips place in London! Even had a birthday party here one year — took over the whole restaurant(not hard, is it?) but oh those chips!!! That fish! I don’t know what they do to it when they cook it, but I know those fish have had a happy life… My mouth is watering at the thought!

One of the must have’s for me on my return to the homeland was a proper fish and chips and a Kebab. .okay… 7 kebabs at least. Since I was not sure where it was, we jumped off the Parson’s Green train station and legged it for miles it seems, we finally did find the little hole in the wall. Little, would be an understatement. It was really quaint and literally had only 7 tables in the whole place. Including a four top outside the bathroom, which was taken. There would be a 20min wait, so we opted to take out… Cod and chips was my choice… The server asked whether I wanted salt and vinegar on my chips… YESPLEASE… The fish portion was friggin humongous. Like so large he had to whack off the end to fit the entire thing into my bag. But first he filled said bag with three huge scopes of chips. sprinkled vinegar and salt in and handed me what felt like three pounds of seafood. It was still loverly and hot when we got back to our hotel and the homemade tartar sauce hit the spot. The chips were crisp and the fish batter was crunchy and not to greasy. I got through eating the fish and could barely stuff a handful of chips in my gob. This was truly a great meal. Well worth the walk and not being able to eat there was the only small negative in our trip. I miss the fact that they no longer seem to wrap the fish & chips with newspaper, but with all the negative press these days, perhaps it best for now…

I make no claims to be a fish and chips expert, but this place was pretty good. They have a takeout section which was hopping, but it was nice to be able to sit down. They have a full menu, but of course I went for the fish and chips and homemade coleslaw. The batter was excellent and the fish wasn’t greasy. The portion of fish was massive. The chips were just okay, but I am kind of a chips snob. The homemade tartar sauce and the AMAZING coleslaw were definitely highlights. The server was really sweet making sure we got taken care of in speedy fashion to hit the Fulham match.

Fishers is good. Better than most in fact. I know my chips you see, and I know that cities in general are pretty poor for this most magical of dishes, so it has become my mission of sorts to ferret out the very best. Fishers isn’t the best, but it is well above average. It is probably among the best sit down places I’ve been to, as they often seem to have a war-time/crumby sea-side town/rubbish aesthetic with faded walls and worn down furnishings. North Sea Fish Restaurant, for example. But yes, nice insides, a nice little back-room right by the toilets(nice) and pretty nice service. So, nice. Food was good too. My fish was a smidge overdone and the chips had somewhat of an over fried taste to them. Not burned or overly crisp, more that there was too much skin and it was a little too crunchy. They were tasty good, but that isn’t what chip shop chips are meant to be like. I can tell you what they are like, but you either already know or will NEVER understand. Never. I’d go back though. As I said, it was pretty good. You wont find better that close to the river. On the North side, at least.

We love Fishers… I have been going here for years. The only other place for fish and Chips is Reef in Grove Park. They do the most AMAZING chocolate brownies…

Don’t bother with this place. Espicially on a Fulham FC match day. I thought I would give it a chance after not paying the place a visit in ages and it dissappointed… hugely. I cannot comment on the food because they did not serve me any, but portion size did look small and rather poor value for money. They were busy which is fair enough, but Fishers were happy to take my order in full knowledge that they would make me late for kick off. In fact I waited 25 minutes and they did not get to my order, instead choosing to priortise telephone bookings, credit and debit card payments and those not going to the Fulham FC match. I had to ask for my money back as I was already going to miss kick off, now. They really should have an idea of how busy is busy and be honest with customers if they don’t think they can fufill an order in time for people to get to the nearby Craven Cottage. I will not be going back. They obviously do not want my custom.

Good fish and chips are sooooo hard to find in London. I was pleasantly surprised with the fish I got from Fishers. It was well cooked, and with the correct application of salt and vinegar, it was totally scrummable. nom nom nom. The chips were a little overcooked, just on the wrong side of crispy, but they were still enjoyable, especially since there wasn’t a drop of errant oil in sight. Personally, I like my chip shop chips to be big and fat and a little on the mushy side. The cost of dining in the no-frills dining room is more expensive than ordering a take-away. But at £9.50, a big plate of cod and chips isn’t so bad, actually. Points were detracted for the non-updated menu that promised gherkins and pickled onions with the plate of food, because these things never arrived. And, I don’t mean to be overly picky or anything, but that ketchup aint no Heinz. The cold After Eight that came with our bill made up for it, though. Mmm… minty. By London standards, the fish at this place is outstanding. It definitely wasn’t the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, but I have to judge it by its London competitors rather than anything else. Other aspects of the food and dining experience came up short, hence the four stars. But I would still certainly return.

Traditional fish n chips at it’s best. Popular with locals as queue is always out the door. But service is quick so never have to wait for long. Portions are very generous. Tasty Food. Selection of pies and sauces. Classic fish n chips is the best though. Has an indoor restaurant too. This place is worth travelling for.

As far as fish and chips goes, this place really is top of the pile. I’ve seen Fishers been packed before and after Fulham matches with queues going right outside and a packed restaurant from within and this is what made me finally decide to get my bum in there and see what it was all about! The fish and chips were divine — light and fluffy batter, big traditional chunky chips, perfect helpings of salt and vinegar etc. It’s really old-skool without being cheap, nasty and oily. Sitting in the actual place was nice. It felt like a proper cool wee restaurant, a really warm and friendly feel. I’d definitely go back if I’m passing through Fulham.
