My friend told me about the brownies. Redonkulous. Coupled with some coffee from Monmouth and it’s on!

Excellent baker, stuffed to the gills with goodness. We got a large round loaf that fed four with leftovers for 2p50, it was a great find! I only wish we had as good of a place as this here in the states.

Continuing on my hunt for chocolate brownies throughout London, I find my chops firmly clamped around a chocolaty square of brownie goodness the size of my fore arm. This is all in the name of Unilocal you hear! Now this is good brownie, expensive but good. Not gooey enough for my liking but saying that, it’s a cold day and with this stall being outside, nothing bought from here is sold at «room temperature»(which I have discovered is prime for brownie consuming). Cakes and treats, and carb-tastic joys for you to nibble on while walking around the market, and if you can wait, take home to eat with a cuppa. This stall is sooo worth a visit, 3 star brownie, 4 star stall!

They have the perfect brownies. PERFECT. I have tried many a time to get something resembling these chocolatey delights at home, but always I have failed. SOGOOD.

Just as I knew I could never again ingest Ben and Jerry’s after spending a summer eating perfect gelato from a shop close to the Vatican, so the divine, luscious ganache brownies from Flour Power City ruined me for all others(though Tartine reawakened my senses). I almost resent my palate’s memory of this wonderful bakery, because the breads, rolls, and baked goods rendered foods that once seemed delicious into something ordinary.

Flour Power City’s brownies are luscious, unspeakably chocolatey, the velvety bittersweet ganache slips over your tongue, your eyes roll back in your head as you consume it, practically moaning with pleasure as you bite off each dense piece until there is nothing to do but suck the sticky sweet residue from your fingers and lick the rich, dark crumbs from the corner of your mouth.

One of the best bread makers in the city, Flour Power never fails to impress. The list of different types of bread are endless, from Walnut & Apricot to Spelt and Rosemary, sweet Rye breads, baps and rolls. There are so many choices in fact that you’ll probably be hard pressed to choose and end up buying more than one type. I always end up with a bag of bread and a spinach and ricotta roll or two to eat as I wonder round the stalls. I personally like to come to Borough market when I have a dinner to prepare for friends, it’s a little more expensive than your supermarket but you just can’t beat the quality. Some kind of Flour Power bread always manages to make it onto the table, as an accompaniment or even just as a starter, and it always gets more compliments than my cooking!

Amazing and well-worth-the-carbs… this bread reminds you why it became«the staff of life» in the first place. Sold every weekend at Borough Market(and I believe a few other markets and outlets around the city), you’ll find an abundance of types and varieties of bread at their stall. Honestly, every time I go I’m impressed… their innovation and creativity when it comes to mere flour and yeast never ceases to amaze me… from the rye with carraway and raisins(my dad’s absolute favourite) to the mouthwatering rosemary-studded focaccia… or even their most basic French white — you are bound to be impressed and will inevitably come back in search of more. They really care about sourcing… and know the miller where they get most of their flour… and many of their products are organic. The other great thing about these people is that they *truly* care and communicate openly and honestly with their customers. When prices started to go up and some of their products became prohibitive to make cost-wise… they didn’t just do blanket markups… they put up signs explaining the price increases and what was happening on their end — as a consumer, those are the sort of details that I believe reflects a vendor’s integrity and that I really appreciate.
