Visiting for the summer, will surely miss this wonderful shop when we leave. Weekday favourites include their Toulouse sausages and lamb patties! Rib eyes have also been excellent.

My go to butcher. Firstly, the meat is excellent — whether you want beef, pork or lamb, it doesn’t matter as it is all good. The staff are friendly and helpful — if you are not sure how much to buy they are always able to lend a hand. Two things are worth mentioning — i) the specials board which offers good value options and ii) to remember to ask for cuts that aren’t on display — there is lots more available out back.

Five stars is the only way to describe Frank Godfrey’s in Highbury. A true purveyor of the finest meats, traceable, free-range and gorgeous. The friendly staff are always happy to share cooking tips and really know the products they’re selling. There’s always a butcher on hand for and special techniques and they’ll pretty well prepare anything you get as you like it. I wish we saw more places like this instead of the sad looking stuff we’re used to getting in the supermarket. Support a local treasure and get your meat from Frank Godfrey!

A proper butcher selling real meat(free range, not fed on rubbish, etc.). Prices are high but that’s what you expect for good meat and anything else isn’t worth it. There is a queue down the street on Saturday mornings and after the school rush but otherwise it’s quiet. You can order in advance for something special(I ordered a whole ham, thinly sliced, and a beautifully roasted joint of beef also perfectly carved, for a party and it was much complimented). Good condiments as well.

I love walking down Highbury Park because it feels like a little town; I forget that I’m in the city. There are a few shops I go into and a few I’ve just found. Today I found Frank Godfrey Ltd, a butcher shop. Up until today, I would always go to Upper Street but today I found a beautiful local butcher and it’s clear the community loves it because it was packed. When I walked into Frank Godfrey it smelled like cooking meat. I could have stayed all day just looking at the meat and enjoying the aroma. Since the shop was crowded I had several minutes to look at the meat and figure out what I wanted. The counter staff was friendly and eager to make suggestions. When I left with my purchases I couldn’t wait to get home and cook them up! I am pleased to announce that I have found a new butcher and what can I say… it’s amazing!

This award winning butcher is well worth a visit if you’re looking to cook something guaranteed to impress. The shop itself has been been established for over a hundred years and has firm support from the local community. In fact, I’m yet to walk past without noticing a substantial queue outside. Frank Godfrey considers itself a bit of a sausage specialist and with over ten different variety there is something that everyone will like… well unless you’re vegetarian that is! Personally I favour the classic Pork and Leek though I’m not opposed to the Apple option either. Outside of sausages the shop also boasts a handsome selection of top quality meat in a variety of cuts. The staff are incredible helpful and will always offer advice on cooking technique and times. All in all Godfrey’s is a real find and everything you would hope for from a top local butcher.
