George’s Diner and Fishery is a fish shop(also wine and beer) on the first floor and a small dine in restaurant on the second floor. It’s a family business run by a couple from Mauritius, so expect créolé, Indian and African influences. I’ll be reviewing mainly the restaurant. We were a table of four dining on a Tuesday, and it was a laid back atmosphere. We ordered two appetizers(calamari and crab) and three mains. We had a grilled fish mix(pan seared sample of three fishes), cod with lobster sauce(Thermador style, this was off the menu because they were out of fish pie) and an impressive sea bass for 2(with prawns, fried rice and vegetables). The photos speak for themselves; all dishes featured fresh seafood and were delicately prepared. Hints of ginger, chili and coriander, which are staples of Mauritian cooking. We ended our meals all very satisfied. Not to mention a very friendly front of the house who was also running the fish shop downstairs. Also, the chef and owner came out to chat with us and other customers as we were leaving. I would definitely go back to try the Mauritian fish curry. If you’re in the mood for seafood and perhaps want to try some new flavours, check it out!
