This place was so good we made sure to visit it again before we left London!!!

We had the cod and chips and the battered halloumi with chips. Neither of us finished the dishes, it didn’t taste that much, lack of flavors, also looks very boring on the plate. I truly believe this kind of dishes can be made much better elsewhere.

I was staying in the area, so I stopped by based on the reviews, and was not disappointed at all! Take my review with a grain of salt since I’m a relatively inexperienced American in this particular cuisine, but the cod was delicious, properly crispy on the outside and meaty on the inside. I ordered the small, which was plenty for my normally huge appetite — I saw someone get the large and it looked like a massive meal. Mushy peas were very satisfying, and the Guinness and fries/chips definitely helped me meet my carb goal for the day. Service was super friendly!

We both ordered the small cod and chips, and were pleasantly surprised with the size of our dish. The fish was stellar, however the fried were not exactly my favorite. The mushy peas was ok, and the tartar sauce(which was ordered separately) was awesome.

Fish and chips is a relatively popular dish in the US, and I thought I knew what a decent fish fry was. Then I came to the UK and I’ve been learning that us Yanks have a lot to learn about properly frying foods! I came here during the summer while backpacking through Europe. I ordered a large haddock and chips, Guinness, and mushy peas. The fish was fried beautifully, in a way that I’ve never seen fish fried before. It was so light and crispy that it reminded me of phyllo pastry on the outside, and the juicy and steaming fish in the center was perfect. The chips were equally perfectly fried, and the peas were so damn tasty. Service was friendly and offered me some suggestions, and the restaurant was vibrant with a lot of customers even mid-day. It was boiling hot inside the restaurant though, which can I guess be attributed to the heat wave this summer. I know that I need to explore the chippy scene in England more when I go back, but for what I got to try in London, this was the best fish & chips I’ve ever had in my life.

Absolutely delightful! Just what I wanted, an honest to goodness Fish and Chips. The small cod was just the right amount. Batter was very light and the fish very tender. Even the French rose was great. Waitress was very good. A very nice experience — highly recommended.

I went there for the first time today during my lunch break. I absolutely loved it. Being a vegetarian it’s not common that fish and chip shops provide much choice but, in this case, I was not disappointed. Golden Union are absolutely brilliant. I ordered their battered halloumi and chips and it was positively scrumptious and delicious. I heartily recommend it. The service was extremely welcoming and friendly.

Outstanding fish and chips. Wide variety of fish to choose from. Cod and halibut are the most popular, but there are several others. You can order to take away or for a few pounds more you can find your own seat. Service is friendly. Word of advice to the uninitiated or the uninformed(and those who are both, but maybe forgot this): Take your time when the meal arrives. It looks as delicious as it is — lightly breaded and crispy steaming. You will want to dig in immediately. Wait. Otherwise you will sear yourself and not be able to taste and enjoy the rest of the meal. Try the mushy peas. It’s traditional.

The servings were huge and they were very generous with the chips. The haddock and cod was huge too and well served. We had the mushy peas as sides and that was good too. Service was good and efficient.

Solid 4 stars! Definitely the best place for fish and chips in the city. We found this gem by looking at Unilocal reviews! Once walking in there is a line for take out, the line was long and popular. But my hubby and I opted to dine in. We found out it’s a lot more expensive to dine in than take out. Almost half the price! But it was worth it and service was good. We were seated by a waitress, the servers there did not seem like they were from London(can tell by the accent) but they were so friendly and welcoming. My hubby opted for fish and chips large and myself I got the king prawns. They were delicious!!! The fries in my opinion were mediocre. The batter for the fish and the prawns were great!!! A lot of food! Neither of us finished our fries. Large portions. I ordered a milkshake — very rich and sweet! My hubby opted for a pale ale beer. He also ordered the mash peas which were not very good and not worth the price, hardly touched that. So next time you come just stick to the fish and chips! They are awesome !! Opt for take out if you want to save money :)

First time in London, gotta have fish ‘n chips. My friend found this place and said that it’s a local favorite, so we came here. It was quite a walk from Buckingham Palace, where we were dropped off, but we enjoyed the stroll. We both ordered the cod and chips(or was it haddock and chips, either way, it was 11.95 pounds for the small). There was a LOT of fish and even more fries. You have to order the tartar sauce separately. It would’ve been wiser if we ordered one large tartar sauce to share instead of two individuals, but I must’ve gotten confused when the waitress asked me the question. I also ordered a bottle of Lipton’s lemon iced tea, which was delicious. Service was good, although we had to ask for our check. Environment was great. We got seated immediately. The restroom is in the back corner of the room, not really separate from the room, so try not to sit anywhere near the restroom. Also, the restroom is only one room, not a restroom with multiple stalls, so there might be a wait. You can’t really tell if the restroom is being occupied because there’s no vacant/occupied sign depending on if the door is locked or not, so it might get awkward. Double check that you’ve locked the door if you’re paranoid like me. The only reason I give four stars is because I felt like my health went down as and after I ate the fish ‘n chips here. I wish there was something like spinach. I had to get a Green Goodness from Pret A Manger afterwards to cleanse.

Golden Union is nestled in a narrow alleyway near Oxford St. They are infamous for their fish n’ chips(obvi). I tried both their Cod and Haddock fish n’ chips. I really enjoyed both. Make sure to order the small size plates(unless you have been starved for days or you are a multi food eating contest champion)! Because the portions here are HUGE! I could barely finish the small plate! Also, get the Tartare sauce, you won’t regret it! Overall, very cool atmosphere and friendly staff, they’ve even got a retro jukebox that plays some awesome music.

Best fish and chips here! Had the cod and chips. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Goes great with the tartar sauce! Mushy peas were mediocre but I would definitely come back here! Prices are average. Cod and chips was 11 gbp. Service was great too. Atmosphere is like a diner. Fits around 40 – 50 people. They also do take out. Overall, recommended to try when you’re in London!

A really great place to get well cooked fish and chips in the heart of London Town. The restaurant has a very modern, fresh, clean vibe going on, with tiled floors and walls as well as neon signs and paintings of fishing boats. They cater for both those who want to take out or if you want to eat in. We did the latter. We ordered cod, chips, saveloy and mushy peas. Everything was hot, the chips were chunky and just greasy enough whilst the fish was coated in a golden crispy batter and inside lay the mouthwatering fish. The saveloy was full of the spicy sausage flavour, though seemed a little dried out. The mushy peas hadn’t made an appearance three quarters of the way into the meal, so I asked for the order to be cancelled and they did apologies. There were the standard condiments on the table, salt, vinegar and sauce. Whilst all the food was great there was some element about it that made me feel it wasn’t a wholly traditional fish and chip experience. Perhaps it was the lack of wrapping paper. The bathroom was pretty standard and an average amount of clean. I will definitely be returning.

YES. My first meal in London… had to get me some fish n chips. The small is enough for one hungry person, and the large is enough for two people. Drizzle the vinegar and squeeze that giant lemon on yo fish for the best results. You can also order tartar sauce separately. The most popular item is the cod, but many also opt for the haddock. The cod is more flaky and fatty, and haddock is more meaty in my opinion. Both are delicious and moist on the inside, just depends on your preference!

Came by here for a filling dinner before hitting the bar. I was seated quickly and opted for Haddock and Chips. The food was okay, but I’ve had much better. It was filling and not too expensive, so it fit the bill. I was expecting better quality. The small order was massive, so I’m glad I didn’t opt for the large.

Good fish and chips, nothing out of the normal. is little price but this is what u get when around oxford st. What was amazingly good was the chips! They are to die for :) The small portion is nicely served so there’s really nothing to complain about this place. PS: the decoration is cute.

SERVICE: Service here is good. The waitress was friendly and tentative(granted I was the first and only person in the restaurant at 11:30 sharp). FOOD: I ordered the fish and chips. You can either chose Cod or Haddock, but I chose Cod since I had the Haddock before elsewhere. Cod is chunkier and has a less fishy taste to it, and to be honest it’s a bit bland for my pallet, but some people prefer it over Haddock. The crispiness of the deep fried batter was great but the chips/fries were a bit less crispy and more on the mushy side. It does not come with tartar sauce and I believe it costs extra, though you do have vinegar and ketchup for free. It wasn’t the best I had but still good. COST: If you plan on taking out, the price is dramatically cheaper. If my memory serves me correctly, a small portion of fish and chips would cost about 6GBP if you chose take out, but then almost double to about 12GBP if you chose to dine in. I chose to dine in which amounted my bill to 13.14GBP after the service charge. No drink was ordered. If I ever come back, I think I will try the Haddock fish and chips next time with tartar sauce. I wouldn’t mind giving this place a second go!

Ranked as one of the best fish and chips place in London, I had to eat here! Came when it opened at 11:30 and was seated right away. You can order take away in the front but make sure to walk to the back if you wanna dine in the restaurant. The service was fast and the portions are HUGE so make sure you order the smaller portion of the fish. The fish was fresh and flaky and the chips were delicious. I ordered the fried prawns and they were actually tastier than my husband’s fried cod! Make sure to order a side of tarter sauce and mashed peas to complete your English experience.

Very good location as it’s near Oxford Street. The place and the menu are very simple. Contrary to the rest of my family, I get the Chicken Breast & Mushroom pie. Fries were ok, not my best though. The chicken pie and the gravy were tasteless, but the fish was really good. If I come back, it will be for the fish ! 3 stars for you Golden Union :)

Hingehen!
