Fabulous from start to finish. First off, the décor is wonderfully in keeping with the old granary and the design takes full advantage of the original features. The large space is split by a long bar with plenty of room for drinks and a nice atmosphere. In the dining area most tables have a great view of the long kitchen so you can watch the chefs run things & plate up. The staff are lovely, friendly & efficient without being suffocating. The menu(brunch) has many enticing options & I found it hard to select. I settled on the power brunch which was delicious, although I did need to order pancakes afterwards to fill me up. We will definitely go back here to try out the other brunch dishes. This place has many awards including sustainability awards and offers many vegetarian & vegan options. They will also change other dishes for your diet if needed. The best thing about GS though is that it proves sustainable/veg doesn’t have to be «niche» & can bring in the masses.

really close to kings cross station, in fact just next door of caravan. industrial interior design with welcoming staff. roast duck is worth trying — with chocolate source on side, as a non-sweet person, this dish is surprisingly good. pork loin is also a great choice. in terms of drinks, cocktail menu looks good, death in venice is a must try.

Grain Store is really close to Kings Cross but still feels like a bit of a find, across canal and beside Central St Martins. It’s open plan industrial with open kitchen, long bar opposite and a range of tables, cosy booths with sheepskin rug wall hangings and high tables. We turned up on a Monday night without booking and got a high table, perfectly fine. It has a welcoming but chic atmosphere. As a vegetarian I’d normally be disappointed to find variations on mushroom risotto and veg chilli my main options but they do offer to make any dish vegan or veggie and the so-called mushroom risotto was ‘farro’ risotto with Jerusalem artichokes, leeks and chestnut mushrooms, and had the feel of a stew more than a rice dish. It was scrumptious and about the right size. It tasted like it had been simmering for hours but arrived really quickly. Wine seemed a little pricey to a non-Londoner at £26-£54 a bottle but the red we had at lower end was very good. Other dishes seemed to include very creative approaches to vegetables and the menu and staff were very allergen and vegan aware. For dessert I had a very reasonably priced little cheese board, without the port, which was a lovely solo Sussex cheese with walnut bread, grapes and celery. Service is included and the staff deserved it. A nice touch was the £1 added to every meal in November and December for a homelessness charity. You can opt out but can’t imagine anyone would. Would definitely recommend the Grain Store especially if you’re in the King’s Cross or Euston areas.

Stumbled upon this place on a busy friday after having a few too many drinks at the pub. They were quite busy, but managed to get a table within 5 minutes. Nice, open kitchen view, you know your food is fresh when you can see it being cooked(no pressure for the chefs) Ordered a bloody mary to start the meal off, arrived in a large wine glass, although there was very much little content in there. Took a first sip and woaaaaahhhhh superbly strong, hint of spice and a lot of vodka, this isn’t for the faint hearted. Now i know why there was little content in the glass, it was hard to finish all of it off, as I could feel my head going for another spin in daze. Ordered the Chilli Con Veggie, when it arrived was presented beautifully on a board with rice, the curry in a pot and sour cream, and as a side ordered the chips with fresh herbs and garlic mayo which was so good, a nice compliment with the meal, the chips were fresh, matched perfectly with the garlic mayo which of course was freshly made. The service and food time ticked all the boxes for me, even though they were busy, the food wasn’t compromised in any way. Large portions, good price, would happily go back again. Even had space for 3 sorbets, which was needed to cleanse the palate. Never did finish that bloody mary though… Would like to go back for brunch, and maybe try their desserts properly.

I really think this place has an outstanding brunch. Gf and I went here on the last day of a 10-day europe trip spanning Paris, London, and Amsterdam and we thought it was the most creative and inspired(and delicious!) brunch of the trip. Muesli and the wheat-free bread were definite standouts, but overall everything was very creatively plated and extremely light and fresh. Blew NYC brunch game out of the water! The whole décor and aesthetic of the place was really light and airy as well… super cool Doubt I’ll be back anytime soon but cheers for the memory!

Grain store is a very hip, modern restaurant close to Kings Cross. It is in the newly built Granary Square area which is nice and open and nearly makes you feel like you’ve escaped the city. We showed up about an hour before our reservation but the hostess was able to accommodate us, however they did give us a time limit on how long we could stay. They have a very interesting cocktail menu that has its own savory section, one of the cocktails on there was a plantain daiquiri. I was very intrigued by this but wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to an entire glass full. The waiter was kind enough to let me have a sample of it, and as interesting as it was I ended up ordering the gooseberry drink which was delicious and refreshing. For my entrée I had the butternut squash ravioli, per the waiters recommendation, which was delicious. They were fairly small but very tasty and came topped with arugula and with a sweet jam-like apricot sauce. Unfortunately nothing on the dessert menu was calling my name so we ended our meal sweet-less.

It’s great to see so many new places in this area — years ago when I used to take my stand up comedy classes around here, the best options used to be McDonalds and the noodle shop around the corner! I’ve been here twice now and I really love the atmosphere. I get a feeling of nostalgia — reminding me of places in NY. Its also great to see a restaurant explore some great vegetarian options but the most recent visit I have to admit I had a bit of a tough time deciding what to get and decided on the chickpea pancake. It was very nicely presented — looks like it’s going to be good but it was… just okay. Now I love healthy and wholesome food but like some of the other reviews it did lack a bit of taste. We sat outside and the service was a bit patchy so didn’t even want to bother asking for salt and pepper since we had to catch a show shortly after. My husband ordered the Josper oven special — which sadly came out to the equivalent of 2 chicken wings, some fried crispy stuff on the side mostly and a few greens. This was probably the bigger disappointment. I really want to like this place — so much potential but wish the food was a lot better.

I had organised a work team event nearby and was in desperate need of a nice restaurant to go to afterwards. Since I don’t yet have the epic group organisation skills of Alex I left this step until the day. Calling them in the early afternoon I crossed my fingers and hoped they’d have a table to fit 12 people later that evening. Hoorah! I had to provide credit card details in case we cancelled(a fee of £15 per person) which always unnerves me no matter how certain I am that we’ll arrive. But they promised we’d be ok even if our party turned up somewhere between 8 and 14 people. The décor is slightly industrial, respecting it’s heritage, with high ceilings and ambient lighting. Bare brick walls have been covered in cosy fur throws for couples to snuggle against. Our table was wider than standard group tables meaning 2 could sit at each end. This makes a big difference to the table’s dynamic because conversation crosses over much easier. The staff were extremely helpful, explaining items on the menu that were not familiar and recommending wines. I chose this restaurant because the party consisted of people who don’t like spicy food, meat-lovers and strict vegetarians. This restaurant offers predominantly vegetarian and vegan meals, with a few meat options — the exact opposite of most venues, and a nice change for the Vegetarians. Fear not though, strict carnivores, I’m positive you will enjoy your meal. Packed with flavour and big portions. I loved the citrus flavours in the sprouting seeds & beans starter and took much glee in cracking the top of my divine matcha tea crème brûlée. Cons: Would charge me £15 per person for cancellation, set menu is often more expensive than the same courses à la carte Pros: Awesome staff, wonderful flavours, lots of Vegetarian options, still serves meat, great for groups

I loved it! The brunch here was something else. I rarely give 5 stars to a place that make me rethink other 5 stars I’ve given. Go here for brunch, sit outside, people watch, enjoy delicious food(I tried salmon with a scone and potato pancakes — yum!) and watch the weekend go by. Service was nice & friendly. They moved us inside when it started raining — and inside Grain Store is lovely as well — tall ceilings, open kitchen. Delightful! Cocktails are decent — I tried Volcano, which prosecco & marsala — pretty much Kir, but less dense and not as sweet. I liked it! I’m definitely going back to try the rest of the menu.

We came here for the vegetarian selection for a birthday. The setting is lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. I was surprised to see a lot of meat dishes on the menu with vegetarians raving about this place but they have a statement to say they make all dishes vegetarian or vegan on request. We ended up going all out and having a three course dinner. Starters incredible, make sure to get the onion bread to share. The mains also lived up to the same standard. The only downside was the dessert. I went for the white chocolate mousse which was a bit sub par and I wish I had just skipped it. Overall a lovely place but the only reason stopping me from coming back straight away is the prices.(Visit — 20/06/2015 Dinner)

I want to go back and fully sample the Grain Store, so that they can redeem the £2.75 I paid for a take away cup of fresh mint tea. And it was a small cup! With maybe 10 mint leaves. I know this is London, but that is taking the mick. Make your cups bigger, or reduce your prices. Please.

The neighbors were full so we decided to finally try this place which was recommended by good friends in London. One comment: very good and original! Worth a try(and we will try again as soon as possible when we go to London) Décor is nice, welcoming. We get a table in a calmer part of the restaurant as we are here with our baby. Very nice service, efficient, friendly and with a smile. Drinks: delicious cocktails. Nothing more to add ;-) Good: again delicious. Good products well used. We got some salad based on different grains, as well as watermelon cubes with delicious goat cheese coated in olive. And then some pancakes: a nice healthy flip on the usual heavy pancakes :-) So just check by yourself and enjoy the place.

To sum it up, the cooking at Grain Store is indeed very solid as I would expect from a Burno Loubet restaurant, great presentation and flavours arrangement in its dishes. But I think the restaurant played too much into the vegetable theme without actually showing in its cooking, I can’t help but to think the vegetables were overshadowed in the fish dishes both visually and taste wise. which shouldn’t be the case if the fish were suppose to be the supporting element. But other then that, the food at Grain Store is definitely well above average than your standard restaurants and perhaps one of the very best King Cross can offer.

If you’re a foodie this your Place to be. I wasn’t that hungry when we got there so I only had a starter and chips on the side but man, these were delicious! I’ve had a tarte with an interesting cream that also had peas in it which tasted awesome but what stood out was the sauce that came with the chips. I don’t think I’ve ever dipped Chips in anything better. The restaurant itsself consists of several big open spaces. The waitress was very friendly and knew perfectly when to interrupt our conversation so we could get some coffee before we left. Also, apart from that you should make a reservation, we didn’t have to wait long for the food to come.

Tried to come here a few times but it was always a long wait so finally reserved a brunch sitting. Really cool flavors and buzzy vibe. Also in an a very up and coming part of north London. Pros: cool menu, big space, interesting drinks. Cons: bit pricey, overloaded wait staff(meaning slow and messed up orders).

Great little place for after work cocktails or even a date night dinner. I went with my friend for a quick bite and a cocktail before a gig and enjoyed my Broad bean & chickpea hummus with Foccacia and cocktail which had egg white but something Pink in color(Sorry it was recommended by our server). Definitely will go back!

Delicious, seasonal food in a laid back, chic setting: I can see why the Grain Store is a popular destination for London foodies. We arrived on a Thursday evening at 5:55 pm, having booked a table for 6 pm, and were told that the restaurant opened at 6 pm ‘on the dot’, so we couldn’t be seated yet. Bit strange, as the tables had been set, but no matter, we perched by the bar and were seated as soon as the second hand passed 12. Precision! We ordered some onion bread to start, which was warm and delicious, though the butter was ice cold and hard as a rock, so quite difficult to spread. But my main course of freekah stuffed quail and heritage carrots hit the spot — a wonderful summer dish and the perfect portion. My friend’s lamb breast looked delicious as well. For dessert, my pear tart and vanilla ice cream wowed, but my friend’s matcha crème brûlée disappointed. Despite this and some service gaffes we experienced, I’d return again for the delicious, inventive menu — perhaps for brunch.

And still find this place the biggest ripoff for brunch. A really expensive omelette with shrimp which comes with NOTHING. So pay extra for bread. So much potential but just can’t get behind this place…

We booked way in advance to get a table outside at Grain Store for brunch. Judging from the atmosphere, Granary Square is the place to go on the weekends, with both Grain Store and Caravan dominating the area. We ordered the Potato pancake with sour cream leeks, poached duck egg, Tobiko wasabi caviar(9.5) and the Popcorn Grits with spring onions, chestnut mushrooms, prosciutto lardons(9.5). I found the pancake a bit too stodgy, but enjoyed the popcorn grits. It’s a simple dish with hints of flavor depth, but was just what we needed. I’m not sure if I would trek all the way here again but it was worth experiencing a different kind of brunch than your usual Eggs Benedict.

Big vote of thanks to Sharon S for organising our little visit to Bruno Loubet’s new food venture. Located a short walk from the new stunning King’s Cross station, the multi-coloured fountain outside the restaurant was a cool way to approach it It was a busy-ish Friday night but with some heavyweight reviews backing this recently opened restaurant, it’s not a surprise to see it quite full. You also get the bonus of seeing Chef Loubet himself with a good Gallic glower surveying his new kingdom at the pass of the open plan kitchen Grain Store has been feted for having vegetables at the heart of each dish with the meat almost an after-thought on the comprehensive listing of ingredients in each of the small style offerings on the menu. These were augmented by a few specials ably articulated by our waiter once we could attract his attention. As mentioned by Lily C and Freya C, service wasn’t the best and it proved difficult to order and get the bill OK, I am an avowed carnivore when it comes to my choice of meal but I can also appreciate good vegetarian food. However, whatever is put on the plate, there needs to be flavour. Without a doubt, the best dishes were great — the truffle risotto, lamb belly and fig tart spring to mind but sadly, too many dishes were merely OK on my palate. Between the 4 of us, we had 12 dishes, which gave a good cross-section of the menu and there just weren’t enough hits for me to want to return for a second visit Another disappointment was the quality of drinks with alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails failing once again to excite the palate I wasn’t lucky enough to eat at Chef Loubet’s previous Michelin starred establishment and it’s good to see a legendary chef back on the London food scene. However, for me, Grain Store didn’t quite quicken my foodie pulse at this time
