Mediocre food, pleasant atmosphere, slow slow slow slow slow service despite being not very busy. Chicken Madras and lamb curry were almost impossible to distinguish. Good paneer, above average dal. Butter chicken absolutely tasteless. Threw away our popadums without asking if we wanted to take them. Did I mention slow? An hour after ordering, when my mother-in-law politely raised her hand to inquire after our food, she was waved away dismissively from across the room, with a curt, «it will be there in a minute,» before she even said a word, and without a backward glance. No apology, no explanation. Almost could have been embarrassment? Don’t go there.

Popped by ‘Exmouth Market today for lunch, and seeing as I’m in my ‘study and getting fit before my wife has a baby who will certainly ruin my fitness plans’ mode I forwent my usual burrito or whatever other unhealthy crap I prefer, and had a big styrofoam container of a delightful assortment of what appeared to be healthy curries. Dal, chana masala, chicken saag, cabbage, and some other bits’n’bobs served over a small portion of rice. It tasted healthy, and they didn’t seem to cook with much ghee or fat/cream so all in all I thought, «this is good, and good for me.» Dude serving me was old school pakistani guy and had that weird orange hair beard vibe going on which I don’t understand but am curious about. Does dude know? Is he vain? is it religious? In any event, a major step up from the terrible Whitecross Market Indian stall, and honestly, as good or better than my local delivery(Holy Cow).

Came here with some old work colleagues of mine, who highly recommended the place. They always come here when in the mood for Indian and only when it is absolutely packed will they venture to the Indian directly across the street(which is owned the ex-manager at Gulshan). The food was lovely. I ordered a lamb dish but we all shared with each other. Everyones dish was lovely, and the owner is a very nice man. I had a taste for Gulshan Tandoori for the next few days, I’ll definately come back if I’m in the area.

I have been coming to this extraordinary restaurant for nearly 30 years and eat here every time I come to London. The food is not your hell-fire curry popularized throughout London, but beautifully cooked meat, especially the chicken tika, and a huge array of vegetables. The Bindi(ochre) is wonderful. The bread is great as is the pilau rice. Not a weak dish on the menu. Ahmet and his family will delight you. In there on Friday night and an American family had walked a long way for their second meal in 3 days. They were greeted like I was on my 100th!

I really liked this place! It was the second time I’ve been there and I really liked everything about it. The food is easy to eat, yet tasty and flavorful. So foreigners to indian/bangladeshi food, don’t be scared! It’s a real treat for those who like both sweat and spicy flavors. I’ll be back soon! The pricing was great(a 3 course for 9 something?) and the service was so pleasant and nice. The manager/owner is this kind old man who was worried about how we liked our food and wanted to make sure that everything was going well. The location is great as well. Exmouth market is a quite nice area. I really don’t have any bad comments at all. I wish I could give it a 4.5 or even a 5, but since this place wasn’t extraordinary, I’m refraining myself, albeit quite a hard thing to do. (Even the left-overs were good… sorry, I didn’t admit that, but, yes, I sort of did.)

I pop in here occassionally for lunch(last time was today), okay this is not an earth shattering curry experience, but the simplified lunchtime menu of starters and mains for £6, are not easy to turn your nose up at. Reasonable quality and cheap. In recent months they’ve even taken to having a stand on the market selling just one or two delights.

This is pretty local for me so have been on several occassions. I’m not going to say that these are the best curries I have tasted, but the décor is pleasant and the staff are really lovely. I enjoy their Vindaloo and no matter how often I go they always double check that I really know how hot it is going to be. It’s located on Exmouth market and if a curry is what you’re hankering after this cute little place is going to serve you much better than some of the Brick Lane establishments(I have been known to walk out before ordering mains in some dirty Brick lane establishments!)

It has been several months since I have visited, but remember the four members of our party sharing some different korma and curry dishes and thinking that they were rather good. Gulshan calls itself a Bangladeshi restaurant, but you will find many familiar Indian named dishes. I would say that they rate between 3 and 4 stars, but seeing as they took care of us for a very late dinner the time we showed up I feel that I have to give them the benefit of the doubt with that extra half star. The price is pretty good, as we ordered several dishes, nan, and rice for four people and it came out to only 48 pounds. For London, that qualifies as a cheap sit down meal and would give it a second try if I find myself in the neighborhood anytime soon.

The Best Tandoori You will ever eat. We have been going here for 22 years now. I love Indian food and have eaten at Indian restaurants all over the country, every time we visit friends or family they insist on taking us to their local but they are all rubbish by comparison. They cook fresh tasty food as you order, the Tandoori Chicken is sublime, everything else is superb, the service is always friendly and relaxed and the atmosphere is a bit dated but is lovely in a they are trying their best but don’t really get it way. They will cook anything you want — regardless of whether it’s on the menu or not — so I always have sag aloo(potato and spinach) which does not appear on the menu but is lovely and tasty. My other top recommendation is try your next meal with Portuguese Mateus Rose wine — it goes excellently with Indian food and is much better than Lager. Another good recommendation of any establishment is that like us they have loads of regulars, many of whom have now moved away from the area or out of London altogether and still make a once a month trip just to come for a curry. Go on you know it makes sense Have a curry. You wont be sorry…

Quite a small menu, the Gulshan. But nestled amongst your kormas and madrasses there’s some quite interesting curries. Well, I’m not expert — a curry enthusiast maybe — but I never heard of a moglai, a nawabi or a jhal pherejee. I like that, mix it up a bit. Didn’t like the fact they didn’t have a vegetarian section on the menu. So they got ‘Seafood’, ‘Meat’ but no ‘Vegetables’. Just a scant section of vege side dishes. It’s pretty cheap, cheerful(the manager’s a funny chap) but strangely, there wasn’t a lot of tandoori on offer. I thought that was a bit of a giggle.
