Late lunch down by the river. We shared a 750 gr Chateaubriand. Magnificent! Took a lighter choice with it, Pinot Noir. OK, but personally I would have preferred somewhat more ‘pushy’ wine. Good service, nice weather. Will for sure visit again.

Quite possibly the best meal we have had in London. I had the pan roasted sea bass with spiced butternut squash and chick pean side. The flavors suggested an autumn dish and it was amazing. Ellie had the pork loin steak garnished with a cured prosciutto, served on an apple and celeriac purée and green beans. If that was not good enough, we finished with an espresso caramel that Ellie said was the best dessert she had ever eaten in her life. If I could give it 6 stars, I would.

Came here with a friend last week. They were surprisingly busy on a week night but were able to accommodate us. The whole experience was just ok. The décor isn’t exceptional, the service was just ok, and the food was satisfactory. I had the grilled yellowfin tuna with corn and fried plantain. Good but extremely small portions. I felt High Timber attempted to be a nicer upscale eatery but didn’t quite make it for me. If you want a nice restaurant on the Thames, I would maybe do a little more research before settling here.

The online booking is a really nice option I took my sister here for dinner. We had a lovely time and were served all night by the nicest girl ever. Food was good, some of the ingredients a little cold, but good on the whole.

I booked the private dining room at High Timber recently for a corporate dinner and cannot say enough nice things about the place. The private room, though downstairs and therefore missing the views along the Thames the main room benefits from, is located in the wine cellar so very atmospheric and perfect for smaller corporate events such as ours. The staff especially Christine the Maître d’ were just delightful to deal with at every step along the way. No matter what we did; be it monopolising the bar for pre-drinks, taking down all their paintings to stick posters on the walls, or even having to phone me for credit cards details the next day as the boss had forgotten to pay(!!) they were totally cool about everything. The next day I got consistently really good feedback from everyone which is amazing considering how fussy execs like to be! The only negative thing I heard was one person said the desserts took quite a long time to come out but it was literally the only non-positive comment I got from a group of 16 people, which I thought was pretty damn good. If you’re organising an event for up to 20 people and need a private room this is a great little venue that I highly recommend.

Steak, wine, cheese. That, to my mind, is a damn fine combination however you cut it. And with those three things as the focus of High Timber, it’s pretty safe to assume that I had a good time. Located by the side of the Milennium Bridge, in the shadow of St Paul’s and opposite the Tate Modern, this South African influenced restaurant is a fine spot for lunch(look at those views) or dinner(look at, er, those views. And some stars) It’s owned /run by one of the founders of Vivat Bacchus and follows similar lines with its wine rooms(one red, one white) and, best of all, the cheese room. It is, perhaps, a little testosteroney with its steak and big hitting red bias, but there are alternatives and besides, look where it’s based. The City Boys will lap it up, the casual tourist will love the food and the views, and the Thames at night turns the place into something airy and modern yet romantic. Some have said they don’t age their steak long enough but I’d disagree. Frankly, though, my favourite steak is generally the one I’m eating at the time if it’s halfway decent and this was way above that level. In face, the rib eye was one of the best I’ve eaten in London and the wines were excellent. If I can just persuade them to let me sleep in the cheese room, the place wouold be perfect.
