Double uh oh. Our second bad food vendor experience in Borough Market. After sharing a duck sandwich at Le Marche du Quartier with my husband, we passed Hobbs as we made our way to the other side of the market. We shared a pulled pork sandwich on a baguette. Things went wrong again and here’s what they were: 1) The BBQ(?) sauce on the pulled pork lacked flavor. So much so that I’m not sure if it was meant to be BBQ sauce. 2) There was very little coleslaw and it had no flavor. 3) The bread-to-meat ratio was off(a common problem in Europe). And, as a side negative, it was extremely messy. My husband said that I did the«Chicago chili dog bend» when I took a bite of the sandwich. Having grown up a few hundred miles from Chicago and having never heard this phrase before, I inquired and he explained that the Chicago chili dog bend occurs when you eat a chili dog in a ballpark(or other location) and it’s so messy that you bend forward at a 90 degree angle so that any dog toppings fall on the floor/sidewalk/Earth far in front of your feet, preventing you from getting doused in dog toppings, not to be confused with dog droppings. After the explanation of the Chicago chili dog bend, I agreed with my husband. That’s exactly what I did because it the pulled pork was so messy! Too messy to eat standing up!

Not that impressed by the pulled steak baguette we had here I’m afraid. Stuffing and steak can be so good when it’s properly made, but I missed salt and pepper and there were so many sauces to choose between that we didn’t know which one would match best and ended up giving a couple of them a try but not succeed in improving the food experience despite that. Hobbs serves pulled pork and a couple of other similar options too and you order the food from a hole in the wall — and eat on the street. Could be better but not hopeless. Perhaps we were unlucky?
