Iceland didn’t have the best rep when i lived in the UK8 years back and I see they’ve done little to improve themselves. I knew we should have kept walking or gone to the M&S in Waterloo station. One register open and one who was slowly counting out her till. I made the mistake of heading into her line until she promptly told me off. Woteva. Anyway — the other cashier was decent and polite. I think because the woman in front of us was having such a bad day and visibly upset so she took it easy on my jet lagged mind. Selection of groceries was ok. Not a great selection of yogurts and def not a fruit/produce pick up. But for some biscuits, beer and wine — it’s alright I suppose.

Iceland is an excellent grocery store for its size. It is a small grocery but large enough so that it has a little bit of everything you need from a day’s worth of food to a few days of dinner and toiletries. We first dropped by to buy a large bottle of water to go along with our Lower Marsh Market meal. We then made a mental note of the location and to come back before our trip was over. They have a great selection of candy, snacks, chocolate, and other things that we could munch on in the airplane and also bring back as presents. Our haul included Montana bars, Daim bars, Lion bars, Kit Kat, Pom Bear potato snacks, fruit snacks, and my personal favorite– two packages of scones! I miss British products. Practically every item we bought was just a pound each. So worth it.

This little supermarket is pretty amazing. Open until 8pm it carries fresh fruit and veggies, breads, dairy products, a remarkable frozen food section, toiletries, and other essential stuff. It is even open on boxing day. It even has its own products and being a tourist and needing to do food shopping I was astounded by its range of frozen meals section. I got a chicken chow mein, a ghost chilli curry, and some rice with chicken all for 1 pound and 50p each. My total bill for three meals was a mere 4.50. Cheapest 3 meals ever. And I have to say for frozen meals, the taste is pretty amazing and taste like restaurant quality meals.

There are very few shops and supermarkets around Waterloo Station which makes this store a good addition to the area. The Sainsbury’s opposite the station is overpriced and can get a bit boring at times as they are limited to what they stock. Take a walk down Lower Marsh and you will discover a large Iceland hidden away. Their prices remain the same regardless of their location. Save yourself a bundle and pop down there to grab your lunch stuff instead of Sainsbury’s. No need for me to spend a fortune on household items when they are around the corner. On the plus side, because they are not by Waterloo Station’s entrance, they are never as busy as you’d expect which makes shopping there extremely relaxing!
