An excellent canteen meal, where to eat an excellent Indian meal a main course plus fruit for desert and tea for £8 including seconds. Excellent value for money.

Very reasonably priced and very affordable — with friendly and welcoming staff. I would say a hidden gem but enough local office workers seem to know about it for there to sometimes be queues for food — but as they have it ready in bowls — this always moves fast. Not fancy décor or seating(you literally have to nab a table and just grab a tray) but tasty food.

I went here on a Friday, during lunch. It was crowded, but despite a long queue I was out in approx. 15 min, with my tasty Indian takeaway The Chicken curry and mango chutney are really tasty. Thinking of the cheap prices, I expected a lot less from this place. Go! It’s worth it

Just ate at the Indian YMCA on Friday night. Must agree with most posts. Food was very authentic, served buffet style and seconds are not a problem. Nan bread to die for and thankful of the pitcher of water on the table. Very limited meal hours which I will add to this review :) Arrive early as the place was completely full when we left!

I used to live around the corner from this place and LOVEDIT. It’s a hostel with a canteen, and at my peak I think I averaged lunch here 3x a week. I go for the buffet style lunches — £5−6 and so good. Quality north Indian food — made fresh, made well, and very authentic. Incredible value! I’m Gujarati and grew up eating a lot of the food they make, and it tastes just like home. They have a couple sabzis(at least two vegetables) and rice, dal, and naan or chapati. They make different sabzis every day, so there’s never any doubt about freshness. One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve found in the UK and in the US. The people are nice, there are pitchers of water, and there’s a sink to wash your hands before and after eating. Warning: it can be pretty spicy! I brought some non-Indian friends who couldn’t even finish their food because it was too spicy! Oops… Whenever anyone asks me for London recommendations… I always say the Indian YMCA and Dishoom.

This review solely goes for their dinner hall since we never got to stay at the hostel during our holiday. I heard eating here used to be only for hotel guests but decided to open it for those seeking great Indian food. I have to say, I was initially uncertain about coming at this establishment especially being situated inside a hostel. However, I’m glad we took the risk as this was one of the best Indian foods I’ve ever had! Made it out for dinner which was no more than £10. Pay up at the concierge, give your ticket to the chef, and get ready to pile up your plate with greatness. Food here is served buffet-style but I’m not fairly sure if anyone could even go back for seconds. Dishes usually come with Basmati rice, vegetables, dal and naan bread. They also offer deserts-ice cream in our case– and coffee which was a nice way to end our meal. Overall, Indian YMCA is a great place whether you’re on a budget or in need of delicious Indian food. Not sure if I’d actually stay at the hostel, but you’ll definitely see me here eating next time I’m in London.

Delicious food and nice people! The Indian YMCA serves a buffet style dinner for a good price. I stayed here for a week, so I got a chance to sample many dishes. They always have at least one vegetarian option and I think these were generally vegan too. As a buffet, it is obviously very basic and not a romantic place for a date, but if you just want some good Indian food, you should try it. I went away satisfied every night for a week, so I think that’s a good indication of the quality!

A lovely place to eat out cheaply or stay when in London. The restaurant is open 1 — 2.30& 6 — 8pm every day: average £5 They also hold functions, mainly — but not solely — to do with asiatic festivals

Probably the best value for money and quality in London. No curry house will serve up a dish like you can get at the canteen at the Indian YMCA. Their simple curries are cheap and delicious, and you can get almost unlimited daal and rice. The hours are very specific, so breakfast is only 7−9am, dinner is only from 7−9pm. But dinner is only £5 and lunch is only £4.50, and that’s including your coffee. But it is, again, a canteen, so nothing fancy to be expected. It is, however, probably the cleanest eating establishment in the city — you could eat off those floors if you really wanted. But it’s a dry building: no alcohol served, and you can’t bring your own in. Their coffee is rather good, though.

This is a wonderful, cheap, Indian restauraunt. Fantastic Indian food which is great to eat particuarly at lunch time and evenings, attracting both students and commuters. I have always had wonderful experiences there and would reccomend it to anyone who is interested in simple, good, Indian cuisine.
