Very pleasant place for dinner. Came with a friend from out of town and it’s his favorite Indian place. I’d say it was decent and not too pricey, but not anything extremely wonderful. I think Indian is so subjective and comparable to what you’ve had before and this doesn’t hold up to my experiences. Also our currys were not very hot when they came out. However

Amazing curry house! The food is delicious and they accept tastecard which makes it super cheap. The waiters are funny and the atmosphere and décor are nice :) I’d really recommend the butter chicken or the tikka masala, and the complimentary poppadoms were awesome! I’ll be taking people there again!

I heard good reputation about Indian food in London; therefore, I wanted to select one of the best restaurants to have a good experience. After seeing so many reviews in Tripadvisor, I wanted to give this place a try. I do not recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food. Honestly, the food was average. However, if you want a joker and talker as your waiter, this might be a place for you. If you want to try out authentic Indian food, you might want to check out another place. I ordered some lamb and prawn. They were too well done so it felt old. The lamb was so hard to chew. I should have read the review in Unilocal rather than in to avoid this place.

Had takeaway from here as come recommended. Food was bland and over priced so never gave it a second chance.

I am a little surprised by the reviews of this place. I came here with a group of 8 and we had a very pleasant experience here. I had the lamb kurma(I asked for it spicy) and it was delicious and the lamb seemed to be good quality. My garlic naan was also delicious. While they do serve alcohol, this restaurant is BYO, so we brought lots of wine making the evening very cheap. Service was really friendly, although only mildly prompt. I will definitely be coming back though!

This place is great. Really delicious food and charming service — I really recommend it. Authentic curry with succulent meat and fragrant vegetables — don’t be put off by the location, this place is totally worth a visit.

I tried this place in a pinch as there weren’t many other places open. Bad call… The butter chicken was the most bland Indian food I’ve ever had. I also ordered a side salad that came with no dressing. When I asked the waiter if they had any dressing or oil he looked at me like I was crazy and said that’s the way it comes. I would NOT recommend this place. Not even the waitstaff could improve the score. Nothing redeeming about this place.

Came here for lunch and ordered their lunch specials. I love ordering lunch specials because you get to try new things at a fraction of the cost of dinner but boy oh boy was i in for a surprise at Lal Qila. The deco that looks like dining in a canteen with an staff who did not or pretended not to see me when I asked for water refill. The food was mediocre at best with the dish I ordered that was some kind of curry with coconut mixed in it.

This place is great — I heard it recently underwent a renovation, so maybe I missed its darker days — but basically the lunch specials are excellent value and the food is DELICIOUS. The waitstaff are almost too friendly, which can be a little weird, but I prefer that to rudeness for sure. The starters(try the crab purée pancake… amazing) are generously sized, and the curries are super yummy(prawn kurma!) Whenever I go here with coworkers we’re tasting each others’ dishes and every single one has been a hit. They can take a little while, so not great for a super quick lunch — but a place we’ve hit up every week or so since we found it.

While visiting London and searching for dinner, we stopped in. Compared to most Indian food we can get in the states this was far above what we can get. The price was a bit high for the amount of food.

I did the £19.95 Groupon, and after reading the reviews on sites like this, I entered the night expecting a pretty bad experience. It exceeded expectations, and the Paneer Shaslick was a highlight. £20 is about right, although to be honest, I could’ve done without the appetizers(onion bhaji and chili fried vegetables), so really the heart of the meal was the two main dishes plus rice and naan, about £30 retail. Bottom line: It was better than I thought it would be, but I can’t imagine paying the full £40 for what we got. Prices seem about par for London Indian restaurants, though.

Pretty thoroughly underwhelming Indian food. The portions were a bit small, and the curries were innocuous. The tandoori paneer starter and fluffy, pillow-like naan were certainly the high points. Everything else, well, I don’t even remember much of it, and my meal was only 2 days ago. As for the non-food elements: the décor inside was dated, and the service was a bit awkward and unhelpful. It’s not hard to find better Indian food in London. But Lal Qila won’t entirely disappoint you, either. Let’s just leave it at that.

Let’s be straight here — it’s much too expensive for what you get. The food is 4 stars, the price is 2 stars, the service is 3 stars. I went to this spot for a casual discounted dinner courtesy of groupon. Upon 7:30pm arrival on a Wednesday I was immediately put off by the table where we were seated, especially considering there were only 3 other tables occupied. The décor of the place certainly needs an uplift. For starters we ordered the Lamb Tikka and the Lal Qila mixed grill, to which I thought both were just so-so. The mint cucumber sauce was delicious though and I had no problem slathering that on to improve upon the taste. I was happier when our main course came out. I ordered a spicy fish dish which was very nice with the healthy portion of naan they gave us(had to pay for it though as well as the rice). My female companion ordered a mild chicken dish, which I actually found to be very good as well. The sauce was sweet and delicious, but the chicken did not melt in my mouth. We also got sides of Sag Aloo and Mushroom Bhaji, which I thought were the highlights of the meal. I would be dissatisfied if I had paid full price for this meal. £6−7 pounds for main dishes is reasonable for quality, but they were more like £10−12. And a pet peeve for me in any Indian joint — include the naan and rice. In the end — you’re in London. Not too difficult to find a better venue for Indian food.
