Friends and I were looking for a low key watering hole at 5 pm, and low and behold, across the street Janet’s Bar just so humbly appears hidden between other establishments. Quirky indoor decorations, an ultimate dive bar with friendly service. We weren’t there late enough to watch Janet herself bar tend(the main attraction), but we did opt for a jug of Janet’s Secret, which was not a letdown.

Cool hole in the wall bar created by an American woman who has quite the resume(you can read about her in an article in the toilet). Small but good bar folk. Free crisps and wifi. Not a bad place for a quick drink.

The atmisphere was ok but i think they need to make a few little changes to make it a little more attractive and relaxing for thier customers. Other than that, i would say this place is ok

Janet’s Bar is an amazing bar, situated in the Brompton Hotel, which is already a good staring point. The place itself is not that big, but is intimate, with a great atmosphere, an impressive list of drinks, all together a lovely night out.

If you find yourself around South Ken & you fancy a few drinks in a place that’s a bit quirky, not an ordinary drinking hole, Janet’s may be the one! It appears to be atypical of the usual bars around there — it may once have been an avant — garde type of place, but now it just seems to be a bit jaded –bit like the clientele. The lady herself: Janet– is pleasant enough, you can see snippets of her life in the many photo’s of her adorning the walls. She seems to have been a bit of a muse in her youth and she appears to be holding on to those years — just like the clientele… Has a bit of a late licence so handy for a late night drink!

Ugh… Damn it, Janet! This place kills me because it’s there, not here. Janet’s bar is perfectly unpretentious, but different from every other pub in London ending with the word ‘Arms.’ The crowd is great… generally good-looking people hanging out chatting without being completely wasted. The best things about Janet’s are A. It stays open late, unlike most places in London. And B. Janet bartends there and she’s delightful. Seriously, I feel like for your money this is a great place to end the night in London or meet people to venture to an after-hours place with. It’s not for people looking to go clubbing, but it’s a genuinely friendly atmosphere and good service.

Our British friends brought us here one night.(It’s one of the only places open past 11 in the South Kensington area) There were no other Americans there and the locals were all having a great time. There was a mix of young and old. There was a guy playing guitar in the corner which added nicely to the whole ambiance of the place. We had a really good time here. It was really cramped though and loud. Not really a place to come and relax, but truly fun!

Went last night with a group of friends. It wasn’t the right place for our group of 15+ girls looking to drink and dance(except for me, who was looking to have a water and go home) but it seems like a nice local spot. Definitely plus a star for the guitar player softly strumming random old school American hits in the corner.

Came here for 2 drinks on a Thursday night with a friend. He had been here before and was hoping that Janet herself would be there. Unfortunately, she was not The place is quite small and has very random decorations(a santa next to a ‘Happy Easter’ sign, walls covered in photos, etc). Has a long cocktail list but nothing overly creative so it took a minute to find something that popped out for me. Drinks were good, standard cocktails but they were quite expensive! A small champagne cocktail for £12 and a normal mixed drink for £10. I liked the atsmophere though… its one of those places that tries to be a dive, and has achieved while still being somewhat clean. I would definitely go back if it didn’t break the bank so much…

Janet’s was the closest thing to a dive bar that I visited in London. That being said, it wasn’t all that cool. There was a guy playing cover songs in the corner, who stuck to mostly green day and of course the obligatory wonderwall cover, but he did oblige my slightly belligerent friend and play Freebird. However, that wasn’t enough to make me return to Janet’s.

It’s easy to see why many people dislike this place: it looks like a little shithole and the drinks cost half a fortune. Nonetheless, the décor is so extremely tacky and run down I actually find it very charming.

Janet’s bar looks like it’s going to be a crazy unusual night from the outside with hundreds of photos of people enjoying a night out in Janet’s and one hell of a cocktail menu plastered to the front gate. When inside the bar is extremely intimate and packed full of people chatting. However… this just came across as a sleaze pit full of rich guys who find it difficult to find girls. My first impressions were correct as i later found out it was a singles bar. The cocktails may sound great but the prices are not great! It’s ridiculously expensive! I paid over thirty pounds for a round of four drinks and the service did not come with a smile. Just because a bar is in South Kensington doesn’t mean they should be allowed to charge over the odds for drinks you could get for half the price in bars in other parts of the city. They have plastic glasses which does not say classy drinking joint to me or justify spending a stupid amount of money on one round. The atmosphere was buzzing and those with a disposable income seemed to be enjoying themselves whilst listening to the good music they were playing. However I have been to far better bars that play far better music and had much more fun and managed to spend thirty quid on the whole night rather than one round of drinks! The bar staff need to sort out their attitude too.

On of those mad late night drinking holes that I have found in New York but not so much in London. Difficult to explain how it looks but small with pictures adorning the walls of previous drinking sessions and various other«artefacts» can be seen around«decorating» the place. Live music, pizza and bar snacks or they even go and get takeaway food from the local outlets, cocktails, beers, good company and a relaxing and unpretentious atmosphere. They seem to be in your face a bit about drinking so be prepared for a big night out. Almost a case of drink up now and get another one down you. It is also fairly expensive in my opinion so take lots of dosh. A good night out and one to experience but I am not sure I could do it all the time as I am not sure I have the stamina. Fairly un-know which has it’s advantages otherwise I think it would get too busy.

This eclectic bar is a fun escape from reality. Bring your own photo as the pink-ish green walls are lined with customer’s photos, mirrors, garden lights and anything else that’s light hearted and small enough to be glued onto the wall. The drink selection is expansive and moderately priced as well. You can tell from the logo that the place is low-key, leaving snobbery at the door. There is a small outside patio area, which is useful for catching some air after you’ve had a few.

I used to love going to Janet’s Bar because the regulars get to know each other and provide community that you don’t usually find in London cocktail bars. However, the prices are a bit much. I prefer my local now instead. For example, when you order a vodka + red bull, you don’t even get the whole can. That’s tight. Apart from that, the kitsch décor and photos and bar reviews everywhere make it unique and the musicians are pretty good, too. Usually I’d give 4 stars but I took away 1 for the prices.

Janet’s Bar is small, fun, and oddball. I really like the atmosphere in this sort of place: wacky, cluttered, doesn’t take itself seriously, small. The walls are covered with news items about the place, funny pictures, fuzzy animals, etc. It’s friendly in a cheeky sort of way(Janet offered us complimentary hot dogs with our drinks!). They’ve only got one or two bottles of beer available, but lots of wine and dozens of cocktails. Fun. However: I can’t believe the prices. I know this is a pricey part of town, but £4.50 for a 330ml beer? £9 for a very ordinary cocktail? You’re having a laugh. It’s a real shame, because this is the sort of place I’d like to hang out in.

People need to come here with an open mind if they want to enjoy themselves. Although Janet and her staff appear to be rude, they just have a very brash sense of humour and go about their work in quite a stern and swift way. The atmosphere is great, with two live acts every night, it always brings in quite a lively crowd. Drink prices are shockingly cheap for that area of London. In general, janet’s bar is well worth a visit!
