I am really really super excited about Kerb. This is for many reasons. First of all, a rotating collection of food trucks with lunch offerings all under £10/person it is a very nice thing. Also, it just moved locations from Granary Square to Lewis Cubitt Square(a 5 minute walk away) which has tons more seating and a lovely green space to sit out and have a picnic lunch… also this move makes this week-day event almost absurdly close to my house. In general, Kerb is pretty awesome. It has a huge selection of different vendors that swap frequently, making lunch in my neighborhood infinitely more interesting. I’m marking it down a star because I’ve had a somewhat hit and miss experience here. Most of the time it’s awesome and I have no problem finding an attractive option… but sometimes the trucks are all too similar or uninteresting. That’s probably just me being picky. Highlights of my eating here have been a fab Taiwanese box meal with pork, chicken and mushrooms(yummm) and a delicious fried chicken sandwich. Now that I’ve realized how close the new location is, I’ll likely be there all the time. In any case, I love me some Kerb and am SOHAPPY it’s a five minute walk from my house.

Kerb’s a hard one, because when you find a good place, it’s always exciting — but the best ones do tend to move on to bricks and mortar shops, or permanent market spots elsewhere and then you spend time trekking around London to get that thing you’re now addicted to ;) The new location at Cubitt Square is quite nice, with seating and fountains. I was there during Wimbledon and they had a huge screen playing the match with loads of deck chairs in front of it, so a good atmosphere. On this visit, I had a soulvaki from Grilling Greek, and some chips with feta. It was way more food than I could eat and all really nice and fresh. I had pretty much no wait but like 20 minutes later, a massive queue formed. It’s nice to come and try the tasty food, but it is a bit of a walk to get to from where I work. But that’s probably good, because otherwise I’d be broke and stuffed full of street food all the time!

I love me some Kerb. I love it so much I have a list dedicated to it. They are a great collection of street food vendors, and I’ve found some of my favorite burgers in London because of them. I definitely prefer going to them for lunch when they are around, either at King’s Cross or at UCL when they come there. There are fewer people and it’s not as hectic.

I love Kerb at Kings Cross. Maybe it’s because it’s near a main transport station, or that it’s quite far north in London, or that it’s near St Martins/The Guardian and where a lot of new tech places are being built… but it was one of the first street food places on the scene. They have a great variety of food for most days in the week and has a nice area to sit and unwind on Granary Square. Great during the summer with some really top stalls on the street food scene like Spit & Roast, Miss P’s BBQ, Luardo’s and Kimchinary especially ones to keep an eye out for!

Unfortunately I have to downgrade my review having gone to the last Granary Saturday of the year… It seemed like half of it was missing! We looked at the list of traders that were meant to be there, and most of what we wanted to get weren’t in attendance. It normally covers three and a bit sides of the square and on this occasion there were only enough stands for one and a half sides. Maybe the heavy rain in the morning put them off? That said, what we did have was great. We had the Bill and the Beak from Bill and Beak and they were both good, rosemary fries from the Grilling Greek, Unfiltered Hells lager from Camden Town Brewery and Pots of Joy from Batch Bakery. A good time, and we ended up with good food, but just a little disappointed with the event compared to previous ones.

Though it’s hard to imagine now we’ve officially hit the end of the British Summer I headed to Kerb for their pop-up ice cream afternoon(probably not it’s official name but I’m too lazy to go source that). For something that was advertised(well, okay, was on Time Out) as an ice-cream centric day there weren’t quite as many stalls as I’d hoped and the £1.50 samples that were mentioned didn’t exist on too many of the stalls. Of course, that could be an issue with marketing rather than the stalls itself. The stalls that were there provided some great ice cream choices — though the one I had my eye on all day was sold out by 3.30pm. Which just goes to show you should have your dessert first. Kerb’s King Cross location is a great, redeveloped area. The ‘grass’ steps for sitting were full and the atmosphere was great with a steady supply of cute dogs headed up from the canal path. I just wish I was still young enough to run through the fountains. Well, without public censure anyway.

I never want to do another food truck event for the food again. I’m always disappointed and seeking consistency. Next time i’m going for the bitches and the beer.
