A quiet and nice place. Especially when the sun is shining you can enjoy staying outside where some wooden benches and tables are placed. As it is located very near to studios for students this might be a target group for the pub. A really relaxing place to be!

Cute pub with a very cute pub cat! Decent beer too so it was a shame that Soccer Saturday was on the big screen and turned up loud. There was a horrible fruit machine too! Does accommodation from 55 quid a night!

Quiet, good range of beers, food. I’d never noticed this pub so have no idea what it was like before the renovation/new owners. It appeals to me since it carries quite a good range of beers and I like to mix it up a bit. Choice is good, right? It’s far quieter than the nearby Northstar so you will actually be served in under 20 minutes! Friendly staff. You could say it lacks a bit of the party atmosphere you’d get elsewhere but if you just want a drink or meal and chat with mates it fulfills that goal perfectly. More info on their website:

Since a change in management & a makeover The Kings Arms has really improved. Sunday roast is very good — a carvery with a choice of meats, and you can mix them. The daily menu is less successful though I did love the Cumberland susage & mash.

This is the closest pub to my front door. I could probably run there in 20 seconds, if I had to. It was the sort of smoke-filled regulars-only place that I never used to bother with, but since the smoking ban I think it’s a lot more welcoming. It’s a pretty standard pub, but not overly modernized. The iron-legged tables, bench seats, and chairs have been around for a while. The front room is quite spacious, and never crowded, since it’s on a back street behind the mall that few people know about. The back room has some longer tables, a big screen TV for sport, and a fruit machine, if I recall correctly. There are a couple of outdoor seats for when the weather’s warm. Standard beers on tap for this end of town, which means some Fuller’s ales. They’ve got occasional quiz nights on Wednesday. I went once and found the quiz regulars formidable opponents, but very friendly and accomodating for newcomers. And my team didn’t come last! EDIT: This pub has undergone a renovation: some new paint, some tidying up of the décor, a new kitchen in the back by the looks of things. There are a few fancier lagers on tap. On first glance it seems to have lost a bit of character, but it’ll take some time to grow into itself I think.
