Quirky bar in an old Victorian gothic building. A bit hard to find but worth the effort. Beers usually from local breweries. It also holds two beer festivals each year. Cheap but basic food.

Very good and stylish place, I like sitting here in the garden, but in the winter it is charming too. The ales are delicious(according to my husband) and the wines are also carefully selected(my opinion). The food is good also, go and try it.

Small bar which does beer festivals twice a year, had two ales from Redemption Brewery which I hadn’t encountered before. You sit outside in the courtyard which is one of several in this converted Victorian orphanage(the word ‘asylum’ is slightly tasteless in this context as it gives the wrong impression — at the time, ‘asylum’ meant what it does in the context of political asylum: «refuge»). The building is of a Gothic excess almost without parallel(I’m sure fans of the Chåteau Frontenac will insist on the ‘almost’) and to be honest I found it to have a slightly weird atmosphere, possibly echoing my early experiences of school and also because I have seen this building from the train regularly since I was a small child and yet never been in until now. But the day was full of bright young people and springlike promise. This is no bad thing.

How excited was i when friends invited us to the Gothique for their tasting evening for the new 2010 Menu… so without further rabbiting here’s what we found… GOTRYITOUTIT’S FAB… Starters to choose from Pea and Basil soup… Garlic buttered Snails in pastry case… very good Scottish Highland Rannoch vension slices with quails eggs salad too much salad but still good… shell on prawns flambee in pernod with shallots over sauced but great value and left the best to last Saucisses Lyonnaise with spuds and green salad… just fab. For Main course Kingfish steamed with rice banana plantain and mango salsa good but just need thicker salsa… pork belly with cep mushrooms and mash. to die for. Saddle of Vension with rosti… just tooooo good. Asparagus with blue cheese bechamel de pancakes… sadly didnt try as the other mains were just too good. Room for Dessert? Why not… you could have Floating Island with toasted almonds and caramel… difficult to produce but this was the dog’s…nougat glacé… stunning and very good crème brûlée. Great atmoshere. do give this Wandsworth hidden gem a try and just have a look at the Royal Patriotic Bulding whilst you are there. you will come back again and again. We have.

Le Gothique is situated in the beautiful Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, a stunning grade two listed building that houses many unique businesses, an exceptional drama school and many expensive private properties. It is a relaxed but classy French restaurant which can cater for huge parties including weddings. It’s main bar has a good mix of diners, locals and the occasional drama student catching an above student price drink before moving on. i used to spend a great many hours with my best friend discussing everything and nothing and putting the world to rights in here. It’s a largely unknown but wonderful gem of a place which is very suitable for special occasions or intimate meals.

A truly charming setting for an interesting pub and court yard in the middle of a young energetic surround. Food fare is of the French variety with a good selection of wines as company. Prices for main courses are in the region of £15 per head. All in all a worthy destination for something different and full of character.

Situated in the beautiful Royal Patriotic Building, in Wandsworth, is this very special little French Restaurant. With a bar area which is often as full of those in the know as it is with the energetic drama students from next-door and an upstairs eating area offering some recommended food, this venue is worth going a little out of your way to find, especially in the Summer, when you can dine in the enclosed courtyard. Also recommended for functions as a friends wedding reception went very well with excellent service, attentive staff and reasonable prices.
