Been a couple of times and find it sits somehow between pub and bar, and never quite doing a perfect job at being either. Not cheap which isn’t a surprise, but it’s really quite uncomfortable with tables almost wedged into what would be natural walkways. Food is unfortunately average for the prices, despite the delicious sounding descriptions. If you think leather sofas make or break a place then it’s got you. Otherwise this may just be a place to go as there aren’t any real alternatives nearby.

A decent pub with nice friendly staff, serving a good range of real ales. The pub itself is located in an old town hall. They’ve done their best to make it as cosy as possible but it still feels a bit airy because of the big space it fills. The food is excellent. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time, came with a cracking minted mushy peas. The fish was so meaty and had the perfect batter ratio going on. I would say there is only one downside and that is that the table and chairs are in mini table sets and you can only really sit 2 – 4 at each. Not ideal if you’re in a bigger group. Saying that as I was walking out I did notice that there was another room, maybe this held bigger tables.(Visit — 27/03/2015 Dinner)

Fantastic local place for East Londoners. Nice selection of beers and ales on tap, and a tight and delicious British-themed menu. On my last visit I took some cousins from the US to show them a proper, non-touristy, cool place to eat. Food is consistently very good — recently I enjoyed the haddock risotto, served with a fish-based Scotch Egg which was divine! The fish and chips were perfect, served with a lovely creamy side of mushy peas. Staff are really pleasant — I found them attentive and helpful. I absolutely love the Victorian shabby chic décor… one might say this has become quite run-of-the-mill nowadays, but in this giant Victorian era edifice, it suits perfectly.

My lovely local! This pub has the ability to suit all weathers, sunny and bright and cozy and warm. The food is good and on most days but especially on Sundays there’s a real community atmosphere with everyone and their dog(literally) heading down for a lazy drink or a Sunday roast. The food is good and word is there is a new chef on the block and then menu has been poshed up. I recently had the confit duck and white bean burger with mustard fruit relish.(not as posh as it sounds) and it was tasty. Most certainly a burger at heart although it sounds a la carte, it came with plenty of chunky crispy chips. I haven’t personally tried it but I’ve also heard rave reviews about the choc brownie with salted caramel ice-cream with candied bacon bits! Good choice of beers and wines along with the usual spirits. Id highly recommend the pub quiz which is a good laugh if you’re around on a Wednesday evening.

Busy but quick and easy to order drinks and food. Roast is well cooked and tastes great. Unfussy décor with good use of lighting for a cosy autumn afternoon with a good mix of people creating a good local atmosphere.

Looks so amazing from the outside! A grand official building like this is not where you’d expect to find a pub, but success running a pop up during the Olympics has led to a permanent place. Its in the safe hands of Antic who love putting pubs in unusual places and can generally be relied on to offer some good beer! The burlesque style interior looked especially lovely when I came in over Christmas for a couple of beers and a snack. The chips were decent and my beer Late Night Early Night was a delicious American style ale. My other beer Swift from the Deeside Brewery was a similar style, but not as nice.

For people living in this area, this place seems to have been around for a while… but that’s only because this place was initially set up as a pop-up bar during the Olympics season, as a watering hole for people looking for a nice drinking establishment in an area that is sorely lacking any. Last August, this place went permanent, and my curiosity had been piqued for a long time on what the place was like but I never made it there until this past weekend. I mean, Leyton isn’t quite on the nightlife map so one really does not end up passing by this pub unless it’s planned. I have been curious about this neighbourhood, to see whether it is facing the alleged Shoreditchification mentioned in this article( ). Frankly, I wouldn’t mind some of such parts of East London turning a bit hipster so I went and checked it out. And how cool is this place, especially for Leyton :) Charming décor — lampshades, kitsch-chic sofas & chairs. A wide range of craft beer, a respectable wine list for VERY reasonable prices, a food menu that makes me want to come back to check it out. And a buzzing atmosphere which hints at many interesting conversation on art, film and music… I like it! I’ll be back :)
