Am i glad we have a Waitrose at Highbury? Yes, though this little Waitrose is pushing the bottom limited. They have very limited selection on everything. The floor and shelves are not really up to the usual Waitrose standards and it’s always very cramped and narrow. On a positive, they are open later than any other«supermarket» in the immediate area, which is especially good on Sunday when most close at 5pm, and Waitrose closes at 11pm. Overall, if you need a Waitrose fast, pop in here without any expectations, otherwise make your way to the far larger one up the road(5 min bus ride)

This Little Waitrose is not the place to go if you want to cook a dinner that involves lots of different ingredients. It’s likely that they’ll be missing something you need. It’s also likely that you’ll fail to find some things as they have come up with an odd layout where fruit and veg are entirely separate areas. There is a limited number of check-outs and there weren’t any staff immediately on hand at the self checkouts to approve the wine purchases or to help you find garlic on the lookup menu(FYI it’s in the salad section). As you’d imagine, the selection of sandwiches and lunch items are extensive and they have a good range of food that requires little to no prep(oven/microwave ready). This place is clearly aimed at the early to work/late from work crowd who live in Highbury picking up items on their way in & out of H&I tube station.

Why do convenience stores have to be so… convenient. And now it seems the serial defiler of my wallet, Waitrose has got onto the ministore game. This so much better than the tesco express round the corner but has a very limited range of fruits/veg and loads of wine… I fail to see the problem. In other news there is the expected large range of lunch food and ready meals with some surprising additions such as gourmet lentils and gourmet chocolates. Perfect for an emergency shop on the way home from work. The staff are always great and they have at least two people on the tills for oldies like me who hate those self service thingies. Even better the hours are great open from 7am to 10pm daily and its right outside Highbury and Islington Station. Good work oh serial defiler of wallets :)
