Interesting that the restaurant seems to get quite good reviews when a group of 8 of us went last week and not one of us actually said that our mains were nice. A few said they wwere average, I sent mine back and didn’t ask for a replacement. We went on my tastecard on a Saturday night and I don’t know if that had anything to do with it but the food was certainly better in a Wetherpoons that it was here! Saying that the waitress was nice enough, the cocktails were pretty decent according to the girls and the décor was cool so I’ll give it two stars… otherwise I’d say a one star rating would be all it was worth!

Came here last Saturday night for a girl’s dinner. Food was delicious and a really good range, the vegetarians amongst us liked their dishes and there were a few dishes for them to choose from. Exceptionally good value. Staff were patient with us, as we took forever to order drinks at the beginning. The décor, especially the toilets, make this place worth a visit. I am local and have been several times, but none of my friends had been before — they loved it, received very well and worth the trip!

Reasonably decent food, nothing special, but it’s the kitsch atmosphere you’d go for; basically, tiki/Egyptian style. When asked ‘Why all the Egyptian stuff?’ the staff shrugged and said that they had a lot of ancient artwork there, like Roman. Hmm. Fun place, rather unusual artwork in the toilets(OK, basically vintage pornography). Good service, weird music(basically a mix of musicals, opera, and Katherine Jenkins).

Another fabulous meal here! The free hummous to start is just amazing and beautifully garlicky… Had the aubergine pie thingy and some starters to share along with garlic mash. Passion fruit brulee to end with a stunning pistachio ice cream. Cheers lil bro! Lucky he didn’t check out the naughty loos ;)

Amusing décor but avoid it if you do not want to be disappointed. I visited this place with a friend last night haven’t been for a couple of years. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday evening so it was looking good. How wrong I was! The middle aged aged woman behind the bar and our waitress was unbelievably sullen and downright rude and this was after we were smiley and polite! She showed us to our table and threw the menus on the table. I was a little embarrassed as I had really gone on to my friend how great this place was! My friend and I looked at each other, gesturing to one another, What did we do? We waited about 15 mins for her to return to take at least our drink order and when that arrived it was room temperature cava that was flat. I had the cod with chorizo and puy lentils. Puy lentils overdone and rest of meal was just adequate. My friend had the risotto with chargrilled asparagus, which were over-boiled. I would not recommend this place to anyone and would not go back again, unless under new ownership/management because: 1. it doesn’t appear that the owner/s care judging by the waitress/owner’s rude and dismissive attitude and the warm and flat cava 2. The food is not even satisfactory but unsatisfactory 3. No atmosphere

Ha! What a great restaurant this place is! The menu is french yet the theme is egyptian… You want to eat your dinner up in a tree house? No problemo! You want to sit in a big wooden chair and look at erotic pictures from back in the Pharoah days? This is your place! Menu is french and good. Staff are helpful, friendly. The Décor is Fantastic! So not what you would expect from the outside! Worth a peep if you are in the area!

I was taken here as a birthday surprise by my boyfriend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the service was great it was really nice not to be rushed in a London restaurant on a saturday night! Other reviews can probably describe the interior far better than I could, however, after looking at their website i would say that you shouldn’t be put off by it as the restaurant is lovely(yes it’s quirky but it’s far nicer than the website would suggest!). Unfortunately we didn’t get one of the tree house tables but we did get a private booth underneath and it was lovely make sure you book early to get a good table!

The food here is decent gastropub-esque food, but really, that’s not why you would go to LMNT. The real draw here is the extreme kitsch of the dining room(and toilet) décor: you might find yourself sitting around a table inside a giant«clay» urn, or dining in a «treehouse» in one of the top corners of the dining room, a room festooned with ersatz Egyptian and Greek motifs. They also have a slate full of cocktails named correspondingly ridiculous things like«Pharaoh’s Orgasm» and«Cleopatra’s Blood»(all quite tasty in my experience). Aside from that, it’s refreshing that the rest of the menu and the service *isn’t* themed over the top in the way that, say, a Rainforest Café-type theme restaurant would be. The staff are down to earth and(blessedly) don’t spend any effort pointing out how extraordinary the surroundings are. I’ve found that this is just the place to go after seeing a talk or performance at the Last Tuesday Society HQ on Mare St. – they’re not too far apart, geographically or aesthetically.

Love the place. Food Interior everything beautiful. But… This place used to be more welcome in the past. Its a first time actually being served by the owner as he said. Apparently the kitchen can not serve starters and mains at the same time because some of the food gets ready faster than the other. Never had problems about that before. And the waiter/owner wasn’t nice almost all night, pretty much until didn’t come time for the bill. All of us could see that he did the job because he had to not because he did care about the service. I mean if you have problems leave them and your principals at home, and pay more attention to your costumers. And if u can’t deal with it hire waiters/waitresses who can. Shame for the good atmosphere and food. The service wasn’t as it used to be…

If I were to open a restaurant, it might very well be along the lines of LMNT. A kooky sense of interior decorating humor with eccentric-looking spaces, attentive service, and a warm atmosphere. Fun drinks. Cosy nooks for intimate meals, and also seating for large parties. Affordable, comforting, delicious, identifiable food. And pornographic bathroom interiors . LMNT ain’t for everyone, but this is my kinda place!

Dear LMNT I am very sorry thst it has taken me 4 years to come and finally visit you. But now that I have I am very happy, and I will definatly be coming back, several times even. Love From Ellie Ps. I was very please with the food you gave me, the drinks you watered me with and the service that your friendly waiter man provided my with. The Egyptian style décor you are adorned with was definatly an amazing touch. And yes you very very quiet on this particular Tuesday afternoon, but I didnt feel awkard so this wasn’t actually a bad thing. Your porno painted toilets were very funny, I appreciated them muchly.

This is a strange place indeed. I’ve never had a bad meal here as such and I always find the food tasty and after 3 courses am usually satisfied yet something about it stops me from regularly coming back. It is cheap but really only if you come before 7pm, after that all the prices increase by a pound or two. Still, the décor is a talking point, as are the pornographic toilets. From the outside this place looks derelict, although less so now they’ve given it a lick of paint.

I’ve been here twice now and have had two very different experiences. The first time I came here was with a huge group of people for a birthday party. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was lovely, I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection. The décor is fab, Egyptian style, the highlight being the racy drawings on the toilet walls and the unusual seating areas like the giant pot which me and some friends sat in the second time i came here, this time the vibe was different, it was a Tuesday night and the waiter who was possibly the owner was downright rude, when i asked him a question about the menu. I ordered the duck which was served with carrot and apple purée which was delectable. Shame about the service but overall top class food.

I have been visiting LMNT for 4 years now — I love it’s eclectic nature, very reasonable prices, the food is great at this price, and the choice of seating is an extra bonus! There are live Opera singers on Sunday evenings too! One thing no-one has mentioned is the toilets — they are pseudo pornographic in an artistic– ish manner. Nowadays there are warning signs on the toilet doors, warning people they may be offended by the images, suppose it was quite a shock for some. Re: Fred J’s experience — LMNT benefits from a smaller group approach. 4 is perfect. Or 9, so you can get the seating above the bar. I would also recommend a Screaming Cleopatra cocktail prior to ordering the food. Yum. This really is a gem in Hackney — I love it.

Bizarre interior, food Ok, menu doesn’t change very often. They do a great value lunch and early evening special, and Sunday nights are the best with live opera singers. Don’t get a table upstairs during summer as there is no air con here, besides that its a quirky place and if you have visitors from outside London this is the place to take them they will talking about this for years to come!.. service is always good.

This Hackney eating place is quirky, cool and an exciting place to dine if you fancy something a bit different. It has a mélange of styles and designs inside including embellished alcoves, raised opera boxes you sometimes need to reach via a ladder, interesting models/figures, and sphinx fire places. It immediately got top points from me when we were given complementary humous and pitta bread whilst we waited for our starters. The food seems to be quite French, offering dishes such as Goat’s cheese soufflé, Roast wood pigeon and Pheasant en croute. The price is good, and you can easily have a big meal(2 — 3 courses) for around a tenner, and, top tip: it is cheaper at lunch time! Worth the experience.

One of Hackney’s finest restaurants is located opposite a tower block and sits next to Georgian houses. From the outside LMNT looks like a rundown pub– the kind of place you would not venture into even if you were dying from thirst. However my mum and few friends had told me that I visit this restaurant with its quirky interior and very reasonably priced food. It is easy to see why the restaurant website describes LMNT as ‘London’s most eccentric dining room’- there are definate influences from Greek, Roman and Egyptian architecture. If you have ever fancied dining in an urn you’re in luck because LMNT has one! The raised opera boxes are also great to dine in although it can be a tight squeeze when the food arrives! The prices are unbelievable– the starters are a measly £3.45 until 7pm and £4.45 after. There is a great selection including mussels, spinach and feta parcels and chicken tarts with leeks and mushrooms. The main are also very reasonable at £9.95(£7.95 before 7pm) I highly recommend the confit of duck with plum sauce– delicious! This a top budget restaurant serving top quality food.

I used to live just around the corner from this fantastic little restaurant but for the first six months I didn’t even know it was there! It looks just bizarre from the outside, run down and tired and with odd Egyptian statues. Then one day my boyfriend of the time took me here for dinner and OMG was I surprised when we went inside! Imagine a restaurant designed by a cross between Laurence Llewellyn Bowen and an archaeologist and that’s LMNT! I don’t know another place in London where you can eat dinner inside a giant pot or up a ladder in a cubby hole just made for a romantic dinner for two. The toilets are a bit rude though, so if taking children here best cover their eyes! All of this would be just silly if the food wasn’t so amazing. For under £20 a head you can have three courses of excellent French/Med food with a bottle of great house red. I live a long way from Hackney now but I come back often, and you will too!

This resturant will surprise you, from the outside it looks like a soup kitchen, i actually thought the cab driver was having me on! Inside the resturant is a different story, with a relaxed egyptian theme I liked the fact that each table has it’s own little area making it quite private. The food was very good would recommend the belly of pork. Very romantic.

If you love exaggeration and over the top themes then a visit to LMNT is a must because its the epitome of bad taste. Its only USP is its strange décor. There are Greek and Roman drama figures meeting those from ancient Egypt;Kitsch statues of Cleopatra, a Sphinx and a greek God standing around the place;the ceiling is covered in drapes;a mural depicts a medieval Tuscan landscape. The layout of the dining area is strange infact its in a giant urn. As for the menu it puts Medittarean cuisine to a shame and very basic. I had the tomatoe tatin 3.45,main dish of lamb chops with potato gratin 8.95,side dish of vegetable 2.35 and a dessert of banoffi short bread 3.45. The clientele is mainly a diverse mix of locals, huge birthday groups attracted by the novelty factor.
