I came here on Sunday for a brunch with a friend and my housemate. We had been wandering around the village looking for a place to eat, were a little surprised to find a lot of places not opened yet. It was just after 11am. We noticed the lounge, and decided to give it a try. There were only a few other people there, so we grabbed a table near the windows. The menu has quite a few delicious looking options. However all 3 of us settled on the Caribbean eggs. My mouth was watering when it was placed down in front of me. Two slices of bread with a mountain of scrambled eggs, avocado and plantains, it tasted as good as it looked. As we were finishing up, there was not an empty seat in the restaurant, so definitley a favourite amoung the locals. I will be back!

One of my favourite places to eat in Brixton. All day breakfasts, panini’s and chips and lattes. I like to take all my friends here for hangover cures, coffees and chilling out! There’s free wifi and the staff are always really friendly.

I do rather like the lounge, it has the normal brixton buzz with quirky chatty waitresses, tasty food and lovely cocktails. They also accept the wonderful taste card that one of my friends had with them! I sampled the spicy chickpeas with pitta for starters which were exceptionally flavorsome and then had a burger which was a large amazingly meaty affair with avocado and mustard mayo, tomato and a little pail with chips in it. The food was honest and definitely not ding cuisine(microwaved). I have previously been to lounge and was descended upon by a DJ which took over the restaurant entirely and made it rather uncomfortable, and loud. This time however there was no DJ and the place was really chilled out. In my opinion they could definitely do more with the décor, the seats are plasticky black leather and the tables small, which makes it a little unwelcoming. However the general atmosphere of the place not to mention the company, makes up for it!

With a laid back vibe, I’m not sure what this place wants to be. It feels very much like a coffee shop, with small tables and the transient aura that you so often find in coffee culture. However having been in the evening, I found the food to be fantastic. As you would do in Rome, in keeping with the area I tried for starters the salt fish and as a main a jerk chicken salad. I’m happy to report that both were superb, well cooked and a taste sensation. I was very impressed. The salt fish was crispy and came with a lovely creamy sauce with spicy sauce layered on top and the salad came with lovely fresh leaves, olives, juicy tomatoes and cucumber and the jerk chicken was to die for! I really appreciate good food and this is no exception. The cocktails were also fantastic and reasonably priced. If you’re a fan of flavours I’d recommend the Angel Face Martini. This great place for a relaxed meet up with friends, although I’d also suggest this as a good location for a casual date, as whilst the décor doesn’t go out of the way to impress, the food and overall experience will.

Nice spot off the beaten path. Very good Bloody Marys and other cocktails, too, though the Mohito took quite awhile to make. Friendly, staff, but could use a few more of them on a Saturday eve…

What a treat! A real locals hangout with impressive food, surprisingly good cocktails and just a lovely place to be. Come Friday night it’s a candle-lit conspirators den — couples snuggling on the sofas, groups of friends catching up and randoms chatting in the corner. It’s table service her and the staff are friendly. Brixton has upped its game in recent years and this little spot represents everything that is good about the area.

The place is cozy, the people are really nice and the food is delish. My boyfriend and I go there at least once a week. The owner is very sweet. The prices are good and the bloody Marys are fantastic.

Possibly the best place to have a Saturday morning breakfast or brunch in Brixton now that SW9 it under new management. Fantastic food, great service, nice soundtrack and comfy sofasit’s all here.

Great location with good people watching but really disappointing food. It reminds me of something I’d make myself the morning after a big night out: sufficient but completely lacking in much thought.

A great place to sit and watch the world go by or relax with friends. Lovely food, friendly service and the best coffee in London — what more can you ask for?!

I’m getting increasingly annoyed with bohemian cafés that seem to be promoting certain lifestyle choices rather than making good coffee, which more often than not tends to be lifeless and lethargic. So I was quite surprised to find that The Lounge on Atlantic road in Brixton is actually quite good. Although I was quite disgruntled at the décor(which looks as though their interior designer listens to far too much Morcheeba), I quite enjoyed the taste experiences that I had in this self-professed«café, bar, and eatery». The food is extremely well priced with menu choices that I found rather enjoyable, odd, and amusing, for example: Prosciutto, parmesan & fig on focaccia; and Crunchy peanut butter, bramble jelly and banana. The coffees however, lacked the right kind of variation; as opposed to exploring the different types of bean to make coffee, the emphasis was on the style of coffee you were drinking(like Confusso, the tiramisu in a glass). I felt like a bit of a philistine ordering a black coffee, but it was well made and I enjoyed it. Feeling festively spirited, I also opted for a small glass of the mulled wine which wasn’t as good as I have had in the past, but I felt this only to be a minor quandary when I was so impressed with everything else. The final bill total for myself was around £10, which I felt to be a more than humble price to ask. If you’re in the area it’s, and your not sick to death of lazy bohemian eateries, then the Lounge is definitely worth a look in.

Brixton has made some real changes in the last ten years, not all good, but Lounge on Atlantic Road reflects everything that is positive about the area. The cafes location used to be know as the ‘frontline’ and is notorious for being the location of the Brixton Riots in the early eighties. Although this is still not a completely safe neighbourhood at night the street is now a mix of boutiques, cafes and restaurants and by far the best of these is Lounge. Run by local boy and former actor Maynard Eziashi(watch out for him in the beautiful Mr Johnson with Pierce Brosnan) the café used to be just a tiny room on the corner of the street. Now it is a large and fully licensed restaurant as well as a café with another branch in the nearby gentrified Balham. The café serves up homemade smoothies and shakes as well as full English breakfasts in the morning, ciabattas at lunchtimes and both exotic and traditional English food in the evenings all of which can be enjoyed by the huge windows facing out onto the extremely watchable street life of Brixton.
