I walk past Maki regularly during the week and I finally decided to call in and see what it was all about. Not that I’ve tried it once I’ll never be back. You can fill your box with a mish mash of sushi and sashimi paying £1.99 for 2 sushi and £1 per sashimi. There are quite a few melections covering meat, fish and veg. I opted for the soy beef, soft shell crab and spicy tuna. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat any of the beef as it was all incredibly tough. One of my crab suchi rolls was ok however the other was pretty much all batter and the tuna weren’t much better. One of them had no tuna filling although the other one did taste good and is the only reason that Maki doesn’t only score 1 star. With Sushi Surprise only about a 5 minute walk away it would be a terrible mistake to come here

Maki sushi served out of a funky looking van?! And although it is not particularly traditional, it tastes really good?! This is the kind of speedy street food I can really get behind! Maki is run by two super friendly Scottish-sounding blokes… they let you choose your own fillings(then they’ll roll them for you straight away) so you can personalise your sushi to include your favourite flavours. I tried of their sushi at Hyper Japan(which in the past has always REALLY disappointed me with the standard of the food.) I asked them to give me whatever they thought was the best flavours and they didn’t disappoint! In the end they gave me: — Crayfish maki(that had a bit of a wasabi kick) — Salmon maki(with some kind of really tasty sauce) — Fried ebi maki(om nom nom) — Beef maki(this one was a bit of a curve ball for me– but in the end I think it was my favourite!) Yum! 8 rolls for £7 is pretty good value when they taste that good. Now I just need them to open a branch nearer to where I work…
