We’ve seen this place on the W7 and been meaning to stop in. Finally did so today for lunch. Good decision, team. We went early(maybe 11) and found just two other groups there. Service was fast and friendly. The sandwiches are enormous. In terms of size, it doesn’t seem humanly possible to finish one on your own. They’re also messy, in a delicious sort of way, like you can taste the sandwich as it spills all over your hands. The mac and cheese balls were also a nice starter. We were too full to try the pudding. Decent beers, as well. Will definitely be back.

Best sandwich shop in London. London needs more of amazing sandwich shops instead of your boring run of the mill pret and eat! Try the ham hock and what’s your beef. Friendly service good portion sizes and run atmosphere!

I saw this place open and it has grown and grown with success. The quirky place serves only a few hot sandwiches with the occassional special, but don’t let this cloud your judgement. The sandwiches are amazing and are the creation of the owner who is extremely outgoing and is dedicated to fill the tums of London with his sandwiches. He welcomes you into his shop as if you have just entered his flat and kindly offers lemon and cucumber water while you wait. The majority of the customers are young people wanting food quick(potentially to cure the effects from the evening before) and boy… does this place deliver!

Having woken up with a STINNNKING hangover — i decided to get out of bed and re-address the destruction that took place last night. Max’s opened up circa a month ago, 2 doors away from where i live, walked passed it a few times and been intrigued but hadn’t felt the need to commit… until today. The décor is modern and in line with restaurants like byron, islington. Me and the girlfriend thought we would give it a go as i couldn’t face another £3 sandwich meal deal or the very large breakfast that the Italian, 2 doors down from Max’s, provides. The restaurant is interesting as it markets sandwiches and booze. Its a very different proposition — but the fact it says sandwiches forms the prejudice of an inferior course. Entering, i really didn’t high expectations — the menu is limited — circa ¾ sandwiches a booze menu and a pudding. We were greeted by a very friendly person, potentially the owner, not too sure. I did mention that i was mentally & physically struggling due to internal chemical imbalances. I was recommended the«ham, egg and chips» sandwich. When you hear those three words you really don’t have high expectations. The sandwich arrived wrapped in paper held together with an elastic band, i opened it up and took a good old bite — hoping that it would sort the deathly hangover. I was very very surprised. It was amazing! The bread was foccacia-ey, there was ham hock, a fried egg, mustardy mayo, tastes of vinegar, piccalilli & the«chips» were very thin almost crisp like sticks. It was a perfect balance on the palette and a very very pleasant meal. Mid way through i was contemplating another sandwich, not because i was so hungover — merely because i was shocked and was absolutely loving the food. I ordered a coffee to go with the food, the bill should have been £9, £7 for the sandwich and £2 for the coffee, the friendly person said that the coffee was on him — maybe it was because i look that terrible? I would certainly recommend Max’s — really good food and a pleasant break from the norm. Its great to see somebody projecting their personality through not only high quality food but in an area you wouldn’t think to travel to. Yes the menu is limited & i am sure over time it may get larger — but the food in there is awesome! I have harped on about the food and completely ignored 50% of this venue proposition — booze — in my current state the thought of booze could set of a catastrophic chain reaction. My only problem is, i work from home and have a £7 lunch allowance… best find that gym card.

My partner and I popped in this new place on Crouch Hill soon after opening for some casual munch and left an hour later rather impressed. Delicious hot doorstep sandwiches is their bag. And these aren’t any old butties. We’re talking right posh towering stacks of fresh foccacia bread with fillings like this: 1) Braised beef short ribs, sauerkraut, deep fried broccoli and gravy mayo 2) onion croquetas, sweet herbs, baby gem and lime pickled onion and marunos mayo(the veggie option, and what a feast it was). Let me tell you right now: there are some dee-lish-us sarnies to be scoffed here my friend. They’re adventurous with the fillings and at 7 quid each I guess they need to be. Some might think that’s too much but in my view you should compare a sandwich from here to a decent shish kebab, or a pizza from one of the many Italian restaurants in the area. For portion size and quality they are on an equal footing. The thing that will make me return is the uniqueness of the place and the inkling I have that exciting things are going to happen here. On my next visit I will be trying the one called Ham Egg ‘n’ Chips(the description for which sounds right posh). If you live in the area: go. If you are passing through: go. If you’re reading this and live miles away but like to try something different and might fancy a good dark and stormy/G&T to wash it all down: go!
