We went here after the horrible cocktails at another nearby bar, and I’m glad to know it exists. It’s just across from King’s Cross/St Pancras stations, in a brightly coloured building that I always assumed was a youth hostel(it’s apparently a boutique hotel). Go in the main door and down the stairs and you’re suddenly in a speakeasy-vibed cocktail bar. Not too busy, we sat at the bar. My two friends ordered off the menu and I tried to get something a bit more creative/outlandish by chatting with the bartender. He seemed really excited by this prospect, and asked several of the right questions. But then after he made their drinks, he seemed like he had forgotten our discussion, had to ask me to remind him of what I wanted. When I said it was his choice, but dark/bitter/boozy was my preference, he basically made me an Old Fashioned, which was well sweeter than I wanted, and not a particularly strong one. A bit disappointing, but I should realistically learn to avoid getting my hopes up by any London cocktail bars, as I’ve yet to find one that meets my standards. There were lovely smoked almonds, which were refilled for free, which helped round the experience up to a 3* OK experience.

Not bad at all. A dark, intimate spot in a useful location with good cocktails and polite staff. The place is decorated with a decadent, vaguely deco theme, with leather banquettes and red velvet curtains hung from brass rods. And the music, while I’ve sat here so far, has been sort of jumped-up jazz. The clientele at this hour(after work on a Friday) is not that cool, but neither am I, so I should be fine with it. But I’m not, I’m vaguely put off by the loud awkward young guy asking about the most expensive drink they have, then ordering a cheap whiskey instead, then making a face and asking for a bottle of coke to put in it. And the very young trio at the bar giving the bartender a hard time about delaying their order while he makes mine. Ah well, maybe the adults get here later. Anyway, my Yankee Clipper, with lemon, oolong, and Four Roses is very good, served in a chilled glass, and not overly pricey(for London) at £9.50. If you want a good cocktail and are focused on your company rather than the other bar patrons, this seems like a good place.

Fab little cocktail bar just seconds away from Kings Cross/St Pancras station. Great drinks, yummy dishes and very friendly staff. Will definitely come again!
