Amazing vegetarian food. I’m not even a vegetarian — just a healthy eating enthusiast and I absolutely love Mildred’s. So glad they now have a location in Camden — although it is seriously always completely packed. Super excited that they do orders through Deliveroo now too — I will definitely be ordering in regularly.

I’m a big fan of Mildreds in Soho, but the place always takes ages to get into if you want to eat at regular meal times. So I was excited when I heard that they will be opening another restaurant in Camden, and hey! 50% off during their opening month? What a deal. My partner and I went for lunch and ordered two sides to share, a main each, and shared a dessert. For the sides, we ordered the chips and guacamole and the sweet potato wedges. The guacamole was THEBEST guac I’ve ever had — fresh and light. We really gobbled it up! The prices are a bit higher than what you’d like to pay for in a vegetarian restaurant, but I must say that the portions are generous. The burrito was delicious, as I’d remembered it, and my partner really enjoyed his curry. For dessert we shared the Bailey’s cheesecake, and boy were we glad we did because it was so dense and filling! I liked it a lot, but I think my partner didn’t enjoy it as much as I did, so I guess there are mixed reviews there. I agree with him, though, that their crème brulees are special and was a bit disappointed not to find it on the menu.(But it’s good to try different things, I guess!) The restaurant is very spacious and open, so it’s a great change from the packed Soho location. Definitely recommend for hungry stomachs!

On the edge of the excitement of Camden is this remarkably uninteresting office type building. It’s faded windows make it is harder to see in and it’s lurid green window frames are perfect for putting people off. However if you are fortunate enough to see the board outside and perceptive enough to see through this shrouded window, you will see this occupant. It is a great example of how to do vegetarian cooking is inside. The recipes show how with a great variety of ingredients, spices, a little bit of oil, gentle cooking so it is both cooked but the flavours are retained. Dishes can be made which are really nice. The stir fries are fantastic, as are most of the dishes. The soup of the day was impressively thick and hearty, but the massive contrasting and conflicting tastes were not for me, others may love it though. The décor is the current trendy designer, artistic, traditional feel with a small slant of shabby chic. The décor is nice, but it does feel like they tacked the minimal amount onto the the boring soulless white walls. However the designer of the décor is evidently perfectly talented nonetheless. Vegetarian food is low calorie, so need to order all 3 courses if you have a high metabolic rate so it can end up at £30 per head excluding alcohol and service. The service is good, although the staff appear busy, they are very open, friendly and personable. They also seem to have an appreciation for what the place does! If you are onto vegetarian food you will be ecstatically happy. For others it is a genuinely pleasant experience and a good way to experience how it should be done.

Everyone’s excited about Mildred’s new branch in Camden. As you know, Mildred’s is a vegetarian legend. It is also legendary for no reservations, long queues and questionable service. I hope with opening a new branch, that might ease the waiting times, but I somehow doubt it. We waited an hour on a Friday to get into the much smaller branch. However, the staff were lovely and so were our drinks we had at the bar while we waited. As it was so busy all day we were told, they had run out of burgers(nooo! The Polish burger on everyone’s instagram looked amazing!). However, food standards were still high and service was good– so no complaints! The space isn’t that large, but I will definitely be back. Polish burger– watch yo’self– I’m comin’ for ya!

Mildreds: a London vegetarian and vegan institution. They have just opened a second branch here in Camden, in addition to their original Soho location. The opening week, everything was 50% off. We tried the classic veggie burger, the black bean and tomatillo rice burrito, a daal makhani, and sweet potato fries. The classic burger is basically what Mildreds is famous for — it’s flavorful and stays together when you eat it. The burrito was good, but had a lot of cilantro flavour to it, which I did not like. The daal makhani was fine — obviously Mildreds does not specialize in Indian food — but it is served with a piece of fried bread that was delicious. The sweet potato fries seemed to be baked instead of fried, and were cut in very strange and large shapes, but were still good. The service was quick, and even though we came at around 1 for lunch, we did not have to wait long for a table or for our food. I’m sure that once more people find out about it, it will become more like Mildreds in Soho. All in all, a good place for lunch, just a little pricey.
