A Saturday night at prime time, and I needed a table for five at short notice, and the concierge at the W across the street where I was staying spoke with Will, the manager at Morden and Lea. Ten minutes later, we were seated in the bar area with cocktails ordered. Ten minutes after that, we have a table; Will and the rest of the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We had a great dinner — everything was top-quality and one of our party who is gluten-intolerant was delighted to find our waitress was fully understanding of what that meant and helped her navigate the menu. Their wasn’t anything not to like, I wish I didn’t live 6,000 miles away from here, I’d be back a lot more often. I’ll certainly be back the next time I’m in London.

Modern and Lea was a great discovery, with a well spaced dinning room and friendly, down to earth service plus the cooking was of a generally very high standard, using Great British classic elements and finely presented in a modern but humble way. No gimmicks or madness, just simple great cooking at a very reasonable price. It is a rather odd decision to have a British restaurant located inside Chinatown, but strangely enough, it is probably the best restaurant that Chinatown has to offer.
