Mr Wu’s for some reason has become a staple within our friendship group. I’m still unsure as to why — yes it’s cheap but the food for me is completely average and overly greasy and yet we continue to frequent this place and regularly. Annoyingly they didn’t have chicken and sweetcorn soup so I gave the vegetable soup a whirl. WARNING: It’s frickin hot. I burned my tongue and my fingers but it was actually quite nice so I finished the bowl. I then gave the duck and the ribs a whirl. The duck was way too fatty and the ribs lacked meat. Then for mains I had the paella, thick noodles, chicken curry and beef in black bean sauce. The paella lacked flavour and the noodles were over greasy but the curry was nice. I’d be worried if they couldn’t get this right though. One thing that they do do well however is their prawns. Customers will literally pile plates full of them and sit there peeling and chomping away. They’re fresh, juicy and well I have to say it, pretty damn good! It’s £8.95 all you can eat so for what they’re offering is what you get. Nothing more, nothing less.

Pass! Save yourself the nausea, headache, and money. Don’t bother! In accordance with other one star reviews, I have never been so repulsed by a buffet until I went to Mr.Wu. Firstly, the seating is incredibly cramped and you have mere inches dividing you from other patrons. We had to take turns going to the buffet line, so that one person could mind our belongs at all times. The restrooms are completely grimy also and you should only use them if you are desperate. As for the buffet itself, the food quality was obviously poor, lukewarm, and super greasy. The only food I could tolerate was the low mein and sesame toast.

AVOIDWITHYOURLIFE A best friend of mine who I trust and is a chef wrote this, I also added a bit, so we could put it up on Unilocal as a Health and Safety warning. Evidently Westminster Council are too useless to do anything. Maybe bribes, they just want their business rates or something else? Do not eat at Mr Wu‘s chinese buffet restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue, London. I had a meal there yesterday Saturday 27 December at about 5pm. The food was cold. I went to our waiter and quietly said«im a chef, your buffet food is cold, you need to check the temperature, it should be above 75 degrees celcius or at least over 63 degrees.(between 5 and 63 degrees is what is known as the danger zone, its when bacteria multiplies and causes food poisoning) I hadnt eaten all day and was very hungry so i had some food. Afterwards i went up to the cashier and explained the situation. Three girls came up to pay for their dinner and said«why should i pay service charge? the food was cold» I then said«Im not the only one complaining, these girls have said the same and then another guy also said the same. The cashier said«well if you dont like it, you can eat somewhere else» One of the waiters started raising his voice at me, saying you just want free food. I said«il pay for my food if you get a thermometer and check the temperature» All of the customers heard our argument. Myself and my friend only paid for our drinks and then left. Judging by other peoples comments on trip advisor im surprised the place hasnt been shut down. There is a sign up saying they charge £5 per 200 grams of food left on plates. So you are left with two choices, either eat the cold food or leave it and get charged. I very rarely complain in restaurants as i know what its like from a chefs point of view. If they would have said sorry and tried to rectify the situation then i wouldnt of kicked up a fuss. A disaster waiting to happen. I was amazed by the rudeness of the staff, trying to tell me if you dont like it then go somewhere else. I wish i had a thermometer on me, i was so tempted to quickly go and buy one. Ive just left a review on trip advisor.

Food is good, only down side is that food is not served hot enough. Mens toilet was extremely filthy!

Absolutes NoGo.

£8:95 for an all you can eat buffet seemed too good to pass up as I strolled past this place one early Wednesday evening, the place looked busy and the food looked good from the outside. Managed to get a table for two, waitress was quick and attentive, ordered some drinks which were with us in a matter of minutes, buffet obviously was self service so off I went. Plenty to choose from be it beef, chicken, pork all lamb dishes, noodles, fruit, spicy wanton soup(lovely stuff) etc. All piping hot and tasty, I wasn’t too keen on the prawns though, not the meatiest I’ve encountered, and more than ever a pain to peel. The dishes were regularly replenished with hot fresh ingredients and the old stock discarded. The décor of the place is pretty uninspiring but for hot tasty Chinese food, and plenty of it you can’t go wrong. (on reflection some of the plates could’ve done with a wipe down)

For GBP5.50, this is good enough. The noodle dish isn’t too salty and the sweet and sour pork is a good enough copy of the real thing. The crispy chicken wings is pretty good as well. There aren’t that many choices — about 10 dishes by my estimation — but for the price, this is justified. Staff were courteous too. By the way, I’d recommend arriving early so you get to get the food while they’re hot and clean/spit-free;-)

This place, for a Chinatown establishment, isn’t small, but diners are seated uncomfortably close together; you could literally eavesdrop on other people’s conversations. The gap between our tiny table and the ones next to ours was probably less than 15 cm. There was a wide variety of food and the vegetarian selection was good, but there was way too much of the same greasy, deep fried, battered thing. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly low price; they are merely filling you up with cheap, deep fried stuff that probably costs next to nothing, making you feel too queasy to eat anything else. The crockery was absolutely filthy! Nine out of 10 of the plates were grimy, dotted with conspicuous grey specks, and didn’t at all feel clean to touch. The staff members also made us feel very uncomfortable. We kept feeling as if they were eavesdropping on our conversation and gossiping about us and other customers. Will probably never set foot in this restaurant again.

Worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. Most of the dishes aren’t even edible(e.g. the roasted duck). The buffet looks good at first sight but does taste very dry and not even asiatic. Dont dare to eat here.

All you can eat chinese! Ah… eating here can truly satisfy the urge for oriental cuisine. Especially if you have a big appetite. They have a good variety in the buffet for £8.50 extras include any drinks. The foods really good and the few times I’ve eaten here I’ve never had a bad tummy. So I suppose it qualifies as being a good restaurant, the interiors is quiet oriental with dark colours, bamboos and the statues in painted gold; with music tingling away in the background. The waiters add a personal touch to the place cause you can access them for drinks or green tea. Best for groups, in case you don’t want any haggling with the bill in the end. Pretty straightforward and ‘Kings’ in their own world.
