I’ve just moved to this area and my new flat mates recommended muxima for brunch, and they did not steer me wrong! My friend and I were on the search for a much needed brunch(if you can call it that at 2pm!!). Muxima is a friendly, welcoming little café, with a mix of cozy, rustic seating and a few shared tables. The menu had quite a few options, an all day brunch menu coupled with a range of salads and sandwiches. I chose the eggs benedict, and my friend the ham bagel. Holy delicious! My plate was a feast for the eyes the second t was placed in front of me, and my eggs perfectly poached, and covered in a rich flavourful hollandaise sauce. The drizzle of balsamic was a bit unusual, but matched the garlicky taste of the spinach well. We also enjoyed our coffees and a homemade croissant to start– perfect with some homemade tasting jam! Staff were friendly and prices really great for the portion and quality! As this is a short stroll from home, I former many more visits!

The end of Roman Road for non-locals is already a hinterland, far away enough from major points of interest like Victoria Park and Hackney Wick for the majority of Londoners to bypass. The presence of Muxima(meaning«heart» in an Angolan dialect) makes the area more magical and somewhat more enchanting. Leila and Isaac, the proprietors and owners, really care about making sure that everything runs smoothly and will welcome you like an old friend. The team is a family, from guest DJs and the kitchen team, and it’s the sort of place you never want to leave. Coffees are fantastic and generous, while simple all-day food always hits the spot. Watch out for chef Miller’s excellent sourdough which is made in-house and available certain days of the week(when he has the time!). They also run gigs for local musicians as well as exhibitions for Bow artists; the area is proud of its standing as a community and cultural hub, and though at first glance hipsters and yuppies(like myself) would appear to be the target audience, it quickly becomes clear that the space is equally for the whole community. More than a café, Muxima is a credit to the entire neighbourhood.

Lovely café on Roman Road with quirky décor and super friendly staff. Coming in here feels like you’re apart of the community, as it’s often full of locals and you’re likely to run into someone you know. Good flat whites and breakfast offerings — my favourites are the eggs benedict and shakshuka. Cakes are excellent too, and you can get a slice to go if you’re still full from breakfast.

Very cool little venue… Excellent food & coffee, eclectic clientele & the staff are just lovely! Nice place to chill in the midst of the carnage of East London. Hipsterish décor & full of people being creative on MacBook’s. & apparently there’s music & comedy events and stuff there too! Must check that out…

This is a cute little café that looks slightly out of place on Roman Road and the start of the gentrification. Friendly service and lots of comfy places to sit. Dog friendly. I went there for breakfst on a Sunday and at 12pm we managed to get the last table and shortly afterwards there were people hanging around waiting. The service was friendly and the menu pretty good with some delicious looking cakes on the counter. I went for the eggs florentine and was a little disapointed. The spinach was from frozen and tasteless and the hollandaise sauce wasn’t the best I’ve had. However the person I was with was pleased with what they’d ordered so I plan on going back again soon to try something else on the menu and will update my review accordingly. The coffee is great and the tea and fresh juices are good.

I love this place! Perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday morning relaxing with a flat white amongst the quirky vintage décor. They do an awesome brunch too at a really reasonable price as well as amazing salads and cakes. Check out the arty events and dinner evenings too for something a bit different.

Was a big fan of the old Muxima already. Now back in a larger, even more wackily decorated and better located venue — the best coffee shop in east London! Great coffee, friendly and interesting staff, decent prices. I’m going to be getting my morning coffee before, my tube journey rather than in the city from now on!
