I’m usually not a big fan of organic skin care products. They sound good in theory, but functionality wise it’s usually not so effective. Neal’s Yard is a cute place, and there’s indeed a court yard. The service was prompt and friendly, and they have a large selection of organic made skin care products(from massage oil, shower gel to moisturizer). Encouraged by my friend who’s a big fan of this place, I bought a bottle of massage oil and a tube of moisturizer. To my surprise, they actually work pretty well. They smell natural and gentle, don’t feel too greasy, and they keep my skin moisturized against London’s(shockingly) dry weather. And they are actually quite affordable, comparing to other big brand skin care product. If you are shopping in the Covent Garden area, go check it out. Chances are you can find something for yourself or your beloved ones. There is also an organic café just right next door to it in the same court yard.

YES guys you are now famous and you got what you wanted. But you are just an ALTERNATIVE treatment brand and often you try to take onboard way more than what is your scope and borrowing promised treatment goals of allopathic medicine when most of your remedies are purely symptom relieving and an extra hope for the hopeless. Your popularity curve follows that of your audience’s earning levels, and just because you charge 7 times the price of Boots and your bottles are lovely doesn’t mean you are any more efficacious. On a different note, the staff is always very helpful and friendly.

Have you ever felt the compulsion to let complete strangers stick needles into you? Maybe that answer depends on the kind of nightclubs you go to. In this case however, I am referring to accupuncture. For the unitiaited, my sister can only be described as an accupuncture fiend and would doubtlessly recommend it to anyone, unless, say, they were scared of needles. It just so happened that while we were window shopping for nothing in particular in Covent Garden we were soon to learn that Neal’s Yard Remedies had a very well hidden therapies centre just opposite its conventional store. It’s just signalled by one very narrow door between two cafes so it’s astonishingly easy to miss, but once you enter, a world of wonder awaits! Got ailments? This place has every treatment you could ever want. and not want. From shiatsu massage to psychic healing, life coaching to cupping. Even if you don’t have any, you might as well indulge that inner hypochondriac and get some indulgent treatment in a lovely crisp white room, by a practitioner with an unusually soft voice ‘just in case’ you feel tense at some point later in the week and want to mitigate that risk now. My sister insisted ‘we’re here to get accupuncture and cupping’. I went along with it, as I usually opt for Shiatsu(I’m getting quite predictable in that respect) so off I went to get pricked by a random person. It felt very tickly, and the pins felt like tingles… the cupping was a hilarious experience for me personally. It feels like a bunch of unusually big leeches have snaked onto your back and stared sucking really hard. Obviously it is no way near as disturbing as that. Think ‘zen like’. Yes, I know that ‘zen’ and ‘leeches’ go together in a slightly oxymoron-like kinda way. Afterwards I felt floaty and spaced out… my persistent neck stiffness disappeared for a bit too. The experience costed £60. Worth a shot, if you like needles and leeches.

Neal’s Yard is a beauty heaven for organic skincare. I like the fact that they rely on old fashion beauty secrets like homoeopathy and herb and flower remedies. Back to the basics. This is shop where it might be best to just let the sales assistants guide you through as it might be difficult to figure out the whole concept by your self. The staff has always been so helpful and maybe that is why I find this shop such a lovely place to visit. There is a Therapy room downstairs, that I never tried out, but with shiatsu and massage on the menu it sure does sound tempting.

I’m and under the influence of Green, Independent and Natural brands. I’ve probably tried and tested all the major organic skin care products and I have to say, NYR are probably one of the best. Their bubble baths, unlike many of the others in this category, actually bubble(!) and are beautiful. Their organic wild rose balm is something else and their serum is pretty good too! Definitely recommend.

NY was one of the first retailers to fill the gap in the market for natural remedies with a pharmaceutical feel. The products have a homeopathic edge, and the emphasis is on the feel– good health factor rather than beauty for its own sake alone. Their distinctive dark blue glass packaging encloses such gems as Frankincense Nourishing cream and Wild Rose Beauty Balm. This isn’t really a shop to browse in-the product ranges are limited-but it might be a good place to start if you have sensitive skin, for example. The assistants are attentive to the point of harassing, but they obviously do feel that their wares need explanation and there are a lot of testers around. The stuff is pricey-don’t think you’re getting the body shop.
