As a tourist, there were lots of things that I didn’t understand. I did however know what Tesco was, and was excited when I found one. To set up my story I have to mention that the night before my visit to Tesco’s, I was at a pub with a friend and tried some very delicious strawberry beer. It was then we came up with the genius idea to find a store buy the beer and pack it into our suitcases to bring back to the states. Genius right? Not so much actually. We stumbled(not in a drunk) way to this Tesco Express as we finished watching a movie at theatre right off of Edgeware Rd. It was half past ten, so the store was getting ready to close, but we still wanted to see if it Tesco’s had our strawberry beer. Now, in the US liquor can’t be sold after 2AM, so I didn’t think anything particular about shopping for alcohol at 10:30PM. There were blinds pulled down over the alcohol area & I did remember a friend mentioning how England had different policy on alcohol sales. I figured even if I wasn’t able to buy something, at least I could look. The moment I got close to the shelf a store attendant rushed over and started yelling about how I can’t buy alcohol. I let him know that I wasn’t trying to purchase anything I just wanted to know if they had a particular item. He got really annoyed and started yelling that they do not sell alcohol at «this hour». I was a little mortified that he was yelling, especially since other shoppers turned around and started to look. My friend and I had a couple of snack items that we need to purchase, and this is where Tesco get’s the 3rd star from. The guy at the cash wrap was really nice and apologized for his co-worker. He was also the one to explain the alcohol policy and let us know that they do not have a strawberry beer. I went to a few other Tesco’s while on my trip & didn’t have any problems. I do really love the packaged desserts! I tried finding spotted dick since it just sounds funny to retarded yank like myself, but never found it and was too embarrassed to ask an attendant.
