Every time I come back to London, I come for lunch at New River. The jacket potatoes are delicious, and I’ve eaten more sausage and egg sandwiches here than I’d care to remember! My only negative thing about this place is that you have to walk through the kitchen to go to the toilet which is a bit awkward, but they provide great service and value for money, so you can’t complain about much!

Food is good for a regular greasy spoon but accessibility is nil for a person with a wheelchair looking to eat inside. There’s not just one step but two just to enter the café, just tables outside Staff were friendly enough but an easy entrance would go down a treat!

Oh god, another slightly heavy head and heavy hearts at being back from a month’s travelling. Short walk across the park on what looked to be a warm spring day, muddy feet and exhausted from fending off the overexcited Staffie and we make it in the door of the New River Café for believe it, the first time. This is about food therapy. Pure indulgence of mind and body. Two greasy fry-ups please! White bread, bad coffee and the 90s club classics bass thumping from the kitchen radio but one of the best fry-ups I have had in a long time. Runny eggs, crisp bacon and hash browns and clean plates at the end. I’d heard whispers about this place from suprising sources and the clientele is on the whole, decidely middle class. Worth venturing to after feeding the ducks.

This place is on the corner of Clissold Park, so a handy place to get a coffee if you’re looking for a place to warm up. Oh wait, make that tea — the coffee is bitter and watery. They serve a variety of breakfast food and sandwiches, that taste overwhelmingly of butter. The eggs and hash browns are probably the cheapest to be found in London, but they don’t even look appetizing, soaked in oily fluid. The next time I want to warm up, I’ll head to the other end of Church Street, which has great coffee and much better food! And its all very reasonable too.
