This pub is your classic east end mash up of old furniture, brick walls and people from all over the place but somehow it manages to come across much cosier than other places in the area and even a bit less try hard given its location. Its not super loud or really dingy and there are quite a few tables for groups etc so its perfect for socialising. The drinks are reasonable compared to other parts of London at around £4 a pint so you many even go home with some change! I don’t know if they still do it but I need to get back for their bacon sarnie. As an avid brown sauce fan I wasn’t sure what to make of garlic mayo and chutney paired with my bacon! But it was so unexpectedly delicious and its now turned in to one of those foods you want so bad out of the blue with little or no chance of getting it! I’ve always had a nice time here and there’s plenty of space for a good crowd within the rooms and garden. I’d say its easily a top choice of pub when in Bethnal Green.

Don’t you love when you walk into a new place, full of hope, a little nervous but mainly excited to see what it’s all about. Well I walk past this place most days and have never brought myself to give it a go. So, with a sunny Sunday in the pocket, we shot down here and I may have found my new summer hang out spot. On walking in, and from the outside, this place is a tradition british pub. Wooden bars, vintage furniture, plenty of setting space and some excellent choices behind the bar. We grabbed some drinks and then started to have a little walk around to explore. I initially thought the initial room was it, but how I was mistaken! Moving through the corridor, there’s even more cool little rooms in the back, filled with awesome wing-back chairs that will make you feel part of the Mad Men cast. The best bit tho, walking a little further, and bang a HUGE pub garden. And I mean huge. The Sun was enticing us from inside and now I could see why so many people go in here, and why it always looks empty from out the front. The garden must have at lest 20 tables, loads of room between each and what looks like some outdoor BBQ action. The staff, service, and overall atmosphere was a huge surprise and will certainly be popping my head in a lot over the coming months. Solid find…

Huge beer garden out back and cosy large space inside. They could make that beer garden seriously cool but at the moment it’s a bit concrete jungle. It’s still a great space when super busy. The food is ok. I had a mushroomMac cheese which literally had two mushrooms sprinkled on top. They had so much flavour but if they had those times six it would have been better. Still lots of flavour in the dish. The house wine is easy to drink. Especially the red. Just have to watch the pours sometimes they are under. Fill to the line people!(What. It’s a whole sip ok). Lots of board games scattered around and great spaces for bigger groups. Good atmosphere most days of the week and especially Sunday’s.

Finally made it in for the sunday roast… It’s the best roast I’ve had in ages. I’m trying to think of a place I’ve liked more and nothing is standing out. £13 and it’s well worth it, I feel like I’m exploding still a few hours later. The horseradish sauce was excellent, not too strong, lots of cabbage, crispy potatoes, carrots, perfectly done beef, not overcooked… they stop serving at 6 so come in before then, we just made the cut at 5 to, and I have to give them credit for still doing a top-notch one and not just giving us some burnt ends because the chefs probably wanted to leave. Zillion thanks, guys!

Let’s be honest, I don’t venture to this side of town all that much being a South-of-the-river girl(I’ve heard it all and don’t care what you think about the South, all you North/East Londoners). Saying that I have been here a bit more than usual since it’s Thomas A’s hood and we do like to hang. I assume this is now his local, if it wasn’t before it is now since we just had the most epic Sunday Roast here today. We manage to get here 5 mins before they stop serving, how lucky was that? It was so meant to be. Two options for roast, beef or chicken — no vegetarian roast options as far as I can see(if you know me, this does not bother me). Beef for me please, it came it was large. Roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, Yorkshire pudding, horseradish sauce, gravy and 2⁄3 slice of perfectly raw roast beef. PERFECTION! It was worth the £13. Why 4 stars and not 5, you ask? Well I felt quite cold where we were sitting near the back so some heating would had been nice, but considering it looks a bit different and ‘undone’(unless this is the look they are going for in which case, i’m old) than the last time I was here I’m going to assume they are renovating the back area in which case I might change it to 5 stars after I visit next time. Also just as a note(if the staff ever read this), the black pepper grains are too big for the pepper shaker.
