Penang offers some good dishes on the menu. We had spring rolls with prawn and sweet chilli sauce to share and the noodle dishes for mains. I was satisfied with my prawn noodle dish, but thought it was a bit too pricey for the average service and the kindergarten canteen atmosphere. Excuse my criticism but it just seems way too colorful and lacking a bit of taste. Overall, food was good, but seemed too expensive for the offered service and the atmosphere.

I have to say, I wasn’t expecting much from PENANG! but it easily surpassed my expectations. I chose the beef rendang over the udang(prawn) sambal and it was excellent, with super tender but still moist chunks of beef and all the accompaniments I’d expect. My only gripes are that the sambal was too sweet and lacked a bit of punch and that the anchovies were far too small, I had trouble finding them. These were more like anchovy shavings, probably because some people would be put off by tiny fish(with heads) on their plate. The peanuts should also still have their skins on but I’ll let that one go! It’s a shame because a mix of proper sambal, peanuts, anchovies and coconut rice is an incredible combination. The Kway Teow was surprisingly good as well. Nice and sticky and full of flavour — a very good stab at an authentic Malaysian classic staple. It’s not the most authentic Malaysian food you’ll find but it’s comfortably good enough to give Londoners an introduction to one of my favourite cuisines and that can only be a good thing.

We love Penang” Penang is our favourite Malaysian restaurant, located in the hustle and bustle of Westfield, White city. It offers it’s busy customers a true asian street style menu. Did you know Malay cuisine is a fusion between Malay, Chinese and Indian? So it’s bursting with South Asian flavours. We ordered Malay national dish Nasi Lemak(coconut rice, curry chicken, crispy anchovies, boiled egg, spicy vegetable sambal and peanuts), which was absolute delight to indulge in. The beef rendang was so soft and succulent that it fell apart at the touch of the fork, the meat was cooked perfectly as it absorbed all the spicy condiments. Overall everything we ordered tasted fantastic and fresh at a good price of £18 per person. This place definitely went down like a treat for both the of us. We rate this place out of five. see more reviews and help us grow.

Recommend rice noodles with beef brisket. It’s of so spicy for an Asian like me but the fresh chilli(usually as part of a dip or seasoning, like salt and pepper) is truly hot – try not to eat one without anything!

Wouldn’t go back. Roti was undercooked & clearly not freshly made. One of the veggie starters was a grim slop — can’t remember the name. Papaya salad was fine but no punch. Spring rolls were spring rolls. Veggie green curry was suspiciously watery… aubergine undercooked… tofu ok. Expensive as well considering you have to buy a measly thimble of rice for another 4 quid. Gf’s beef rendang was ok but she said it was lacking in meat. Mushy. Dishes arrived randomly, a couple of dishes went awol until we reminded them. Service lacked any spark & passion, they seemed completely uninterested in their own restaurant. Menu was confusing with the top banner saying each person should order 3 – 5 dishes… but this seemed to cover main/big dishes so you would have over ordered had you done this. My sparkling water was nice.

Came here for a late dinner after a movie, when all the restaurants inside the mall close and you only have the outdoor ones as options until 11PM. The restaurant is located in a huge mall… you have to take it with a grain of salt. I ordered a strawberry mojito, and for a main, the chicken curry with a roti parata and steamed jasmine rice. The drink was nothing special, fairly watered down but with bits of strawberry… doubt there was much rum there to begin with. I quite liked the curry, but I thought one roti parata for 2 pounds was quite poor value. It also came on an oversized plate whereas the plates they gave us to eat were much smaller, and my friend tried to pour all his curry onto his, and it ended up spilling over. The décor is quite nice but not at all Malaysian… you might as well be sitting in Wagamama.

Worst Malaysian food I’ve ever had in London. So expensive with ridiculous small portions. I ordered the beef rendang which tasted really bland and came without rice(rice is extra). My cousin had Nasi Lemak which was equally as bland. Avoid at all cost.

It’s nice to see Malaysian food represented in this Westfield Mall’s restaurant row. However, in naming the restaurant Penang, they’ve set themselves high standards and expectations. Penang is a small paradise island located off the west coast of West Malaysia. It is well known as a food paradise and the food had to be good to evoke being back in that pearl of the Orient First impressions were good — although there weren’t many Malaysians among the waitstaff, they displayed a palpably Malaysian sense of warm hospitality, If you ever visit Malaysia, you’ll find a country full of friendly people keen to share the best of their country with you. The only exception is when they take to the road. Then, it’s person for themselves! If you want for someone to let you in at an intersection, you’ll be waiting a very long time! The restaurant has some funky decorations and some interesting touches such as a wall of fame where they display kids’ pictures The waiter wasn’t able to tell me whether they make their own roti parata. It arrived, looking suspiciuosly round, like the frozen versions you find in oriental supermarkets. However, I think most Malaysian restaurants in the UK do buy them in frozen. The only place I know where you’ll find them made from scratch is at Roti King in Central London. The roti was nice and flaky and the accompanying curry sauce had nice depth of flavour My main course was char kway teow, It’s my favourite hawker(street) dish, so much so that I’ve said that if I find a girl who can cook it well, I might just have to marry her. Cooked well, broad rice noodles are charred to give smoky umami flavour and are accompanied by seafood. So, authenticity marks were lost when the dish arrived with chicken on it. Sadly, my hopes were dashed. The dish tasted like my own efforts at home — lacking depth of flavour, which is the heart of the dish. There are many better versions in London. If you like char kway teow, go to Sedap near Old Station station It’s nice to see new Malaysian places in London but Penang is sadly average

Had the chicken satay, pomelo salad, mee goreng noodles and chicken curry. The dishes ranged from alright(pomelo) to downright tasteless(curry). The satay was particularly annoying: the chicken wasn’t lean and well done like it should be. They tasted of nothing, and the peanut sauce wasn’t awesome enough to save them. It probably didn’t help that I had returned from the original Penang two weeks before, but still: this was the most disappointing meal I can remember having had in the last 6 months. Service wasn’t awful, but they didn’t ask how the food was and took a long time to notice we wanted the bill because they were chatting to each other. I’ll definitely think twice before visiting again.

I stopped into Penang after seeing a movie at Westfield Vue and it was a good way to end the evening. I love noodles so I ordered the Char Kway Teow with prawn and chicken and it was great! It wasn’t spicy but had a really nice flavour. The Malaysian chips were also pretty delicious and were covered in yummy spices like they have at Nandos. It came with a great assam pedas mayo dip. Penang has a quirky menu that has a list of spicy foods and non-spicy, which I found quite considerate, as well as some halal and vegetarian items. I really enjoyed my Coffee Tarik as well, it was sweet and hot with nice froth on top. My husband liked his Udang gyoza, Ayam dumplings, and Udang chive dumpling from the little dishes and assured me that the beef rendang was delicious. It did look good so I think I will try some next time:) Another nice thing about this place is that it was open. The restaurants near the Vue cinema(like Nandos or Pizza Express) don’t stay open as late as the ones in the Southern Terrace so when you finish a movie around 8pm, it’s really nice to have somewhere to go.

Not bad for some quick Malaysian mall food. The curry puff came out hot and with a super flaky pastry. The char kway teow was much better than the mee goreng for flavor.
