I lived in London for 4 months last year and even though I’ve been back in the States for almost I year, I still crave these pancakes! I can’t wait to get back to London so I can have them again!

Wandering around near Leicester Square, I came across this tiny Malaysian pancake stall and it was a pleasant surprise! I’m a confirmed chocolic, so even I’m surprised by how much I like it:) I ordered the pancake with coconut and peanut in it, as they were giving out free samples and it’s flavor and texture were delightfully different. For the less adventurous, they also have standard pancakes with nutella, which my friends were happy with although I secretly think mine was the best! It’s a true pleasure to eat a hot pancake fresh off the griddle with that difficult to describe coconutty flavour and texture. I definitely recommend it and hope to bump into one of their other locations next time I am in central London:)

After a happy stroll down my Malaysian hawker(street) food memory lane by eating freshly made roti canai at the Roti King stall located inside Asia Twist Delicious restaurant, I continued journey merely by walking out of the restaurant to the Malaysian Pancake Company stall just outside Malaysian Pancake Co has a few stalls around London recreating this literal Malaysian street food dish. This style of pancake has different names but they’re all made in deep sided small pans so that the middle of the pancake is thick and spongy and the edges are thin and crispy. Traditionally, they’re topped with sugar, peanuts and creamed sweetcorn, then folded over before being served up A mouthful should deliver soft gooey pancake middle with nutty crunchy peanut, aided with sweetness for happiness and crispy edges Being based in the UK where the locals won’t tut tut, they’re experimenting with non traditional fillings. I spied quite a few that I’d like to try, especially the fruit based ones Yay for more Malaysian street food!

This stall gets around. They are frequently at the Sundayup and Boiler House Markets on Brick Lane on Sundays, but I’ve seen them at other street food events as well. I tried it stationed outside of Asian Twist Delicious, a Malaysian restaurant right outside of Leicester Square Tube stop. I had a #2, which has, from what I can remember, coconut flake, coconut milk… you know… not really sure WHAT was in it, but it was DAMN delicious. Next time you see this stall, TRYONE. They are very unique, so I am not even going to try to describe it here in any way that does it justice(but basically, it is a fluffy pancake stuffed with a variety of fillings, mostly sweet, folded in half). If you like interesting new things, sweets, and Asian food, this is a must try.
