The last time I was here at Pitcher & Piano, was back in August 2012. I took two of my friends from Germany, here at Pitcher & Piano. The service was okay, nothing speical to report. I have to say, I’d rather go in here than some of the other pubs in the Holborn area.

This pub was completely remodelled a couple of years ago. It used to the local for my office. Now I barely recognise it(apart from the arches and narrow walkways upstairs). Looks nice though. The pillars, high roof, glass cases and photo/painting displays adds up to a very grand impression. They have a drinks list that is longer than their decent looking food menu. Most of it is cocktails and spirits, but on the left hand side of the bar there are a couple of ales. Had a pint of EPA that was definately in good nick. They also stock a Swedish cider and Frankische Hefe Weizen beer. There are some cheaper after work drinks options, which I am sure I would appreciate if I still worked round there. But at the end of the day, this really isn’t my kind of pub. I appreciate the ales and would willingly come by with friends, but I am just not comfortable and relaxed in glossy chain pub surroundings.

As I sit surrounded by students and City Boys and the absurdly strong and dare I say, nasty drink courses my veins, I relish in the fact that this place has free wi-fi. therefore I can ignore the chaos around me, drink my two for one mango Collins and check out the latest celeb dirt as I wait to meet up with people later.

Alot nicer than the Weatherspoons down the road! This Pitcher & Piano is a favorite hangout of professionals working in the area and more affluent students from the nearby LSE. It spans over 2 floors, with dining-style booths on the 2nd floor. Service was very prompt both at the bar and for table service, and food came quickly. I had the fish and chips, but unfortunately it was rather average and tasted processed. My friend had the special New York burger(2 beef patties, 2 chicken fillets) and it did look impressive. If you’re in a group, be sure to try the JaegerTrain ;)

As my first choice bar in the area — which is defined as the hundred metres around Holborn tube station — Pitcher and Piano is a place where you can talk with your mates and actually hear yourself. Given where it is located, it usually attracts the office workers nearby(and perhaps a few students from the LSE). Food and service are reasonable, though my stars come from its atmosphere, which is a criteria I put a lot of emphasis on. Unfortunately, it seems like it is is being renovated(or perhaps is closing down, but as the signs are still there, its probably the former) at the moment.

A part of the Pitcher and Piano pub chain, this venue, located on Kingsway near Holborn tube station, generally plays host to the hordes of office workers that roam this area of the city. Unlike many other places along this road however, the Pitcher and Piano is quite a relaxing affair devoid of the usual super-ego wallet monsters you’ll find in say All Bar One. Thats not to say its good, its just not quite as nauseating as some others. My advice would be to pop in here on a weekend afternoon if you are going to come, things are generally a lot less crowded and the clientele a lot more diverse. Being a chain the prices are pretty fair; in return for £6 you can get a decent cocktail, just don’t expect anything too fancy. The décor is modern but soulless as is the case with many up market chain bars with lots of pine, glass and chrome. This is somewhere to stop in on a night out but not a place you’d actively seek out.

This place has such potential! It’s right by Holborn station, bus stop nearly right outside, nice décor and roomy inside, and an okay looking menu. And yet, wow. I’m so shockingly disappointed. On the day that we went, there were 4 of us for lunch, and it took absolutely forever for our food to come. Even more annoying, two of us got our food right away, but it was 20 minutes later after we literally walked back to where the waiters were hiding out by the kitchen to ask what was going on before we got our actual food. Portions were small, the food was cold, and everything was disappointing considering how much we spent on the whole thing. We couldn’t find the guy anywhere to get the bill no matter how hard we tried, and when it finally did come, there were problems on it. The bartender couldn’t straighten it out without the permission of the waiter, who had gone back once again to hide out in the kitchen. It was an absolute waste of a lunchtime. Not coming back!
