Nice location. Yellow so you can’t miss it. Malletti is a pizza shop, but it’s a bit different from your normal shop. Firstly it’s counter service only and you’re served first come first served from the pizzas that are avaliable at the counter. Don’t have what you’re looking for? You’re out of luck unless you’re willing to wait for the next batch to get cooked. Upon arriving for the first time, they had plenty or tortellini which was delicious heated up. The pizzas however were very lacking in choice. Little did I realise that there were many in the oven. Anyway, I ordered what was avaliable, a parma ham and rocket margarita and liked that they cut me a nice big slice. The downsides however were that the pizza was dead cold. It had probably been sitting out for about 45 minutes and it was a dank wet day. Had it been warm, it would have been delightful. I can see it in my mind right now. There are seats by the window and more seating downstairs. But most people opt to takeaway. In terms of pricing, each dish, whether pizza or pasta is about £3−4, pasta was about £4−5. This seems reasonable for the area, but a little pricey for what is very simply made pizza. Drinks are decent at around £1−1.50. I’d go back again as the pasta was delightful.

Oops, realised just now that I had posted on the wrong ‘Malletti’ — this is the one I meant to write for! — What a cute little establishment with lovely, fresh, made-from-scratch pastas and pizzas at a ridunkulously reasonable prices… My combination of a lovely mushroom risotto and spinach/cheese tortellonis cost a mere £4.60. Just point at what you want and they serve it to you real quick — perfect for when you run out for a quick bite before rushing back to work. That said, I’d recommend eating by the window upstairs, rather than going down to the somewhat small, windowless seating areas downstairs…

I stopped in here a few weeks ago with some friends when we were on break from a school assignment and looking for a new place to try in the Clerkenwell area. We came toward the end of the evening, so there weren’t a whole lot of options, but we were able to try a few different kinds of pizza, as well as both the vegetarian and meat calzones. Additionally, we got to take home the last of the canolis sitting on the counter for a discount, because they were closing. That’s always a plus. The food was good, fresh, and very authentically Italian. After having just been in Rome and Naples, I can state with some confidence that this is Roman style pizza. They have a lot of traditional toppings too, not your American pepperoni/cheese options. Their calzones are delicious and stuffed full, both vegetarian and ham & mushroom varieties. Downstairs is a teeny seating area, in addition to the small upstairs. We all went downstairs, and it’s a good place for a lunch meeting if you can get the whole big table. I imagine it would get loud down there though, when the tables are full. Their prices are really reasonable, as other reviews have mentioned, and their location is ideal, at the corner of Clerkenwell and Gray’s Inn Roads. It’s a nice quick Italian spot for lunch.

Best pizza in London. Not open on Sunday. Sold out before 3pm sometimes.

This place is pretty awesome. Thin and delicious square pizza slices. I am a big fan of the courgette and the aubergine is pretty darn good as well. My eyes are now on the leek and potato and/or leek and spicy pork. They sell two squares of one type of pizza as a portion(so a bit hard to mix and match). They also have yummy(although very indulgent) pastas(in other words creamy sauces and rich bolognese) and I’ve seen rissotto there as well. Plan to wait on the queue and wait for them to warm your pizza. For big orders, call in advance. They have seating and it is only open M-F during lunch.

This is a great lunchtime spot in Clerkenwell. The pasta is great and really filling. There are generally 2 different pastas, a risotto and a selection of pizzas. Service is quick and friendly and it normally comes in at under £5. My recommendation — get the half and half pasta. Meat and veggie with a slight spicy kick.

A coworker at my job always comes here for their lasagna and without fail is smells amazing. So I finally decided to stop by and check it out. The first thing I noticed is that there is no menu. Instead there are large pans of pizza and pasta on a counter. To figure out what they contain, you simply have to ask. I actually went for the pasta today. I got the beef and mushroom pasta with a piece of onion bread. The pasta was really tasty and had a bit of a spicy kick to it which I appreciated. The onion bread was delicious but unfortunately it was a bit cold. If it was warmer, I would have given this a solid 4 star review. Both the pasta and bread came out to about £5.50 which isn’t too bad considering that I’m fighting off a food coma as I type this. The pizza does look amazing. I can’t wait to go back and sample some.

Malletti’s pizza is excellent. I come from Rome, where pizza on the slab is very common, so I like to think of myself as an expert. Many available varieties(I went at lunchtime), all excellent I would say. I tried one with aubergines which was delicious, probably the best one, a non typical one with spicy salami and a very good four cheeses. Quality definitely suitable for a high end Roman pizzeria. Just one negative detail, the price is quite high. It is £3.5 for a piece(cut in two halves) which is not too large, I had two for lunch. But I’ll definitely go to Malletti again for my pranzo.

So far the best place I’ve found for Italian style pizza in the Clerkenwell area. The selection is always varied, and changes daily and the food is always delicious. Two slices of pizza will set you back £3.50, or a Calzone will cost you £4.50, or you can get a slice of their great potato cake for £3.50. They also have 2 or 3 Pasta selections each day. It can get quite busy at lunchtimes, and it’s advisable to check there is seating available before you opt to eat in, as downstairs can fill up quite quickly. The service tends to be quick, and the staff are friendly. My only criticism would be how they package their takeaway pizza, placing one slice of pizza on top of another with a sheet of greaseproof paper in between. The result is that when you get the pizza out to eat it, you have one slice of pizza base smothered in tomato, and a sheet of greaseproof paper with a cheesy mess stuck to it.

I used to go to Malletti all the time in Soho and in fact know the owner, Tony, relatively well as a result. It’s therefore a shame that I find the zing of the Soho branch, with its zany italian owner and quirky pizza slicing italian chicks, less than present at the all male run Clerkenwell branch. The food is much the same but it lacks that certain ‘je né sais quoi’ Perhaps it is the warm and personal Italian welcome that this branch of Malletti lacks, who knows. The best pizza and pasta in the neighbourhood by far, but a far cry from the originality, cool and warmth of the soho branch.
