I took a turn one block away from my apartment and found this Sainsburys Local! Only two blocks from my apt! I’m a bit of a lunatic in groceries so the fact it was local(not the large one) saved me some time and money. Although I did manage to buy a seasoned and stuffed chicken to bake, new potatoes, onions, pineapple, prepared tomato and olive pasta(very good), cheese, peppers, toothpaste, lettuce, a bottle of wine, butter and oranges. The point is — the place had everything I could need(and maybe don’t need) including chocolate, chips, mags and cigarettes. And good sales… 2 for 3 …1 off, etc. Hours 7 am — 11 pm. Did I mention the cashier who was friendly, welcomed me to the neighborhood and wished me(genuinely) a happy bank holiday weekend? My new local grocery has been found.

This Sainsbury’s honestly isn’t that much different than your run-of-the-mill corner grocery in central London. You have a measly selection of culinary ingredients, some prepared foods, and various other household necessities like man-size and toilet cleaner. However, the one factor that sets this Sainsbury’s apart from any other that I’ve been inside is that their self-checkout machines will sort change for you automagically! Yep. You just chuck all your loose change into a bowl and the machine will chug along merrily and let you know how much of your bill remains after it’s done counting. Fair warning — machine mental math may be slower than yours(I’m looking at Tristan), so some patience is required.
